Most of the romances I read are either urban fantasy or paranormal and most of the series I would list are ones you've already run into on this hop. So I'm gonna talk about my top two favorite romance troupes.
1. Forbidden romance is my drug. This troupe runs rampant in paranormal books. Usually in the form of a supernatural person falling in love with a human. In fantasy it is two people from warring kingdoms. I like my paranormal romances to be male/female. Gay romances, in my opinion, usually fall into the forbidden love category too. I prefer contemporary for male/male romances.
2. Enemies to lovers (love/hate) is my backup drug. Enemy relationships and lover relationships both based on passion. I love watching the shift from one form to the other. But don't give me the cliche miscommunication type. I want them to change their mind because they earned the respect of each other even though they disagree.
Often these two troupes are combined. Make the romance a slow building, simmering kind and I will overdose on that sheep.
