Flock talk: Today is national chocolate with almonds day!

I missed national chocolate day yesterday...but! Today is national chocolate with almonds day...so close enough.
I want to share with you my favorite chocolate cereal...which also has almonds in it.

I'm somewhat of a cerealphile (real word? Is now!). Good chocolate cereals are hard to find. Usually, the chocolate doesn't really taste like chocolate...and has a weird aftertaste.

Then I discovered Trader Joe’s Just The Clusters Chocolate Almond Granola Cereal - 16 oz
I eat this cereal for breakfast, as a snack, and dessert. And it's cheap...$2.99

Changing gears...I found a new dark chocolate that is smooth and delicious.

This is flocking good!

Got any chocolate food suggestions for me to try?

FlockTalk: Trials of a Camping Book Reviewer

Recently my husband and I bought a travel trailer to act as a residence near our adult children (with our grandchildren) who normally live about 4 hours away from us. Now they are only 30 and 40 minutes away. We spent a couple years contemplating moving entirely but WOW what an undertaking to dispose of a house you have lived in for 30 plus years! So we decided to be campers!

Now, mind you, we we loved having 5 acres, horses, a multitude of animals, barns, bonfires, etc. but never, never did we take our kids camping with limited comforts. So we still think it's just fine to go from a 4000 sq. ft. home to a 340 sq. ft. travel trailer! After all, I am hooked on "Tiny Houses" on the FYI channel.

We found a campground that allowed us to leave our camper all year. "GREAT," we said. It even has free Wi-Fi and water. The price was fantastic. I'm thinking to myself..."Holy cow, I will be able to read so much more with all the time I save not having my house to keep up with." Silly me!

I find myself in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by cows, cornfields, woods and a small lake. Pretty, for sure. But I also find that no one wants to put in reliable internet or phone service. Timed out applications, "no service" available notifications and even the Millersburg General Store has a big sign saying if we want to pay with debit or credit cards to have a seat because it may take a while to get through! Are there really still places like that around?! How am I to survive in the wild?!

Try cooking most of your meals on the grill and showering in a 1'X4" tub with only a 6 gallon hot water tank. ONE!, yes I said only 1', TV that might pick up a couple channels on the digital antenna built into our trailer. A closet the size of a wardrobe and a bed that you have to walk around sideways. Hmmm...maybe I didn't think this through, entirely.

The biggest problem is getting email and phone service. I even went so far as to get a "hot spot" for my phone but it's "not so hot" when there still isn't cell phone service readily available. Hmmm...that would be a waste of 40 dollars/month! SOOO, I read in between batting flies and mosquitoes. I type up reviews and trek a few miles to upload. Even that is sometimes slow, depending on how many people are huddled around the tables trying to do the same thing I am. I have met many people that way!

Now, I know I sound like a spoiled brat but when did we become so dependent on current technology that we forgot how to survive without it constantly at our fingertips? We are all spoiled and sometimes need to be reminded that there is a whole world of wonder, even outside our books. I wake to the sounds of birds chirping, the quiet of the sun rising over the lake and the wildlife scouring our area for food. I could get more reading done but have decided I enjoy sitting outside or lying in the hammock watching the world go by one day at a time.

I am slowly realizing that life passes way too quickly and we need to condition ourselves to enjoy the small things. The phrase "stop and smell the roses" has new meaning for me. I never thought I would get to this age and wish I would have been able to see what was always right in front of my eyes. I use books to escape (and always will) but I also now "escape" into some quiet bits of nature that seem to have helped replenish my soul. I highly recommend it!

Flock Talk: Chocolate bar PSA

Just realized I had nothing planned to go up on the site today...so I decided to do a PSA on bad chocolate. Yes, it does exist and I want to save you from making the same mistake I did.

Exhibit A:
I love to try new chocolate bars 'cause...chocolate. I was at the store and saw this new chocolate bar (Exhibit A). It was at a price point between Hershey's and Ghirardelli: $2 and packaged like the expensive brands so I thought I was safe...

Exhibit B:
I should have listened to my gut when I opened the outer packaging and saw this (exhibit B)! No respectable chocolate maker does this. What? Is it a freaking granola bar? No. It should be a foil wrapper. I had to use my teeth to open it!

I broke off one square and as soon as it hit my tongue I wanted to spit it back out...but I ain't no quitter so I chewed. It tasted like the alcohol smell that hits you when you enter a hospital. I. Kid. You. Not.

Moral of my story: If you can't figure it out, then enjoy you hospital chocolate bar.

My top 2 chocolate bars are...

Green & Black's is the smoothest dark chocolate I have found, the Ghirardelli is my back up.

So, what is your favorite chocolate bar?

We don't do many of these informational posts, but a lot is going on.

Feedburner (Flock in your Box)
It appears Google is getting rid of feedburner email subscriptions and possibly RSS on Oct. 20, but no one knows for sure what is going on!
We have about 120+ email subscribers. I will try to transfer everyone to a new email subscription service. You will get an email with the option to opt out. If I can’t figure out how to transfer you, then you will have to visit the blog and sign up again. I am looking at MailChimp. They have a detailed post for bloggers here.

Flock Talk with Mary Kirkland

Today we welcome Flock member Mary Kirkland. She is going to tell ewe about some of her favorite books and why. Be sure to grab some moon pies and Kool Aid from the table.

Dark Magic by Christine Feehan
Young Savanna Dubrinski is a mistress of illusion. A world-famous magician capable of mesmerizing millions. But there was one--Gregori, the Dark One--who held her in terrifying thrall. Whose cold silver eyes and heated sensuality sent shivers of danger, of desire, down her slender spine. With a dark magic all his own, Gregori-the implacable hunter, the legendary healer, the most powerful of Carpathian males-whispered in Savannah's mind that he was her destiny. That she had been born to save his immortal soul. An now, here in New Orleans, the hour had finally come to claim her. To make her completely his in a ritual as old as time...and as escapable as eternity.

My Thoughts: Dark Magic is the 4th book out of 23 in the "Dark" series. It is by far my favorite in the series so far. Each of these books can be read as a stand alone book but why would you? If you start from the first book, you will see how the Carpathians and their Lifemates get along and have changed throughout the series. Gregori who is the Carpathian male in this book, is big, strong and scary powerful but he loves Savanna. When I picture vampires as I'm reading other vampire type paranormals, he's always the one who pops in my mind. He's definitely left a mark on my soul.

Unleashed by Sara Humphreys
What if you suddenly discovered your own powers were beyond anything you'd ever imagined...
Samantha Logan's childhood home had always been a haven, but everything changed while she was away. She has a gorgeous new neighbor, Malcolm, who introduces her to the amazing world of the dream-walking, shapeshifting Amoveo clans...but what leaves her reeling with disbelief is when he tells her she's one of them...
And shock turns to terror as Samantha falls prey to the deadly enemy determined to destroy the Amoveo, and the only chance she has to come into her true powers is to trust in Malcolm to show her the way...

My Thoughts: This is the first book in her Amoveo series and I liked it so much I read the second book "Untouched" right away. There's a 3rd book in this series that I cannot wait to get my hands on called, "Untamed" and I am so excited about this series that I pre-ordered it as soon as I finished the other two books. If you like paranormals, then give this series a try.

Acheron by Sherrilyn Kenyon
The most anticipated story in the blockbuster Dark-Hunter series. The never-before-revealed story of the Dark-Hunter leader, Acheron. He was made human in order to escape death, but in death he was reborn a god. . .
Eleven thousand years ago a god was born. Cursed into the body of a human, Acheron spent a lifetime of shame. However, his human death unleashed an unspeakable horror that almost destroyed the earth. Then, brought back against his will, Acheron became the sole defender of mankind.
Only it was never that simple. For centuries, he has fought for our survival and hidden a past he’ll do anything to keep concealed. Until a lone woman who refuses to be intimidated by him threatens his very existence.
Now his survival, and ours, hinges on hers and old enemies reawaken and unite to kill them both.
War has never been more deadly... or more fun.

My Thoughts: This is the 12th book in the series out of 31 books. And yes, I've read them all so far. This is one of my favorite series, so much so that I auto buy which ever book comes out because I have to know what happens next. I'm a huge fan of this series and had waited hoping that Acheron would get his own book and we would get his entire back history. This book is huge, 736 pages long but I didn't mind because *other than my hands cramping while holding this big hard cover book for hours* I can read 100 pages an hour if left alone. I had a hard time putting this one down because we got an in depth look at his childhood and what happened between he and Artemis. I actually teared up in a few places, it was that good.

Lethal Rider by Larissa Ione
Thanatos, the most deadly Horseman of the Apocalypse, has endured thousands of years of celibacy to prevent the end of days. But just one night with the wickedly sexy Aegis Guardian, Regan Cooper, shatters centuries of resolve. Yet their passion comes with a price. And Thanatos must face a truth more terrifying than an apocalypse-he's about to become a father.
Demon-slayer Regan Cooper never imagined herself the maternal type, but with the fate of the world hanging in the balance she had no choice but to seduce Thanatos and bear his child. Now, as the final battle draws closer and his rage at being betrayed is overshadowed by an undeniable passion for the mother of his child, Thanatos has a life-shattering realization: To save the world, he must sacrifice the only thing he's ever wanted-a family.

My Thoughts: This third book in The Lords of Deliverance series had me cringing and then smiling all within a few pages. This series is about the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse and how they have to stop their Demons from taking over. This is the best of the books so far and there's still one more book as far as I know, left in this series. A lot of stuff happens in this book which sets up the next book really well. There was a twist at the end of this book you'll never see coming and will be glad it happened. If you like Paranormals, this is a great book and a great series to read.

Once In Paris by Diana Palmer

It was in Paris she first saw him. He was tall, handsome--utterly dangerous. Inexplicably drawn to him, Brianne Martin pulled a grief-stricken Pierce Hutton back from the depths of despair. He was forever grateful, but he drew the line at seducing a woman half his age.
It was in Paris she fell in love. Although Pierce was strictly off-limits, Brianne couldn't imagine surrendering her innocence to anyone but him. Certainly not to her stepfather's corrupt business associate. Obsessed with Brianne since their first meeting, this man would stop at nothing in his relentless pursuit of her, including masterminding a marriage to merge their powerful families. All seemed lost, until Pierce passionately saved Brianne's life...as she'd once saved his.

My Thoughts: I had to add this book to the list of books I would recommend because it was the very first romance book I ever read and it got me completely and totally hooked on romance books. If you've never read a book by Diana Palmer, you are in for a treat. Her books are steamy, romantic and the characters are likable and realistic. This is a great first book to start with because it has everything I look for in a romance book. Love, lust, intrigue, a little danger and a happy ending.

Bio: I spend most of my time at home with my husband and daughter and our two rats, Hades and Ares. Yes, I have 2 rats as pets because I think they make excellent pets. They are sociable, friendly and easy to get along with...frankly the exact opposite of me. When I'm not cleaning out cages, you can find me reading Paranormal Romance books, writing blog posts and playing online. My bookshelves are now overflowing with the books I've read, so much so that I may need to move and get an apartment with an extra bedroom just for the bookshelves, although my husband did say if I brought home anymore books he was moving out. Heh, that's ok I can use his closet space for storing more books! I have several hobbies, including beading jewelry, making dream catchers and writing articles on Small Animal Care.
