Exhibit A:
I love to try new chocolate bars 'cause...chocolate. I was at the store and saw this new chocolate bar (Exhibit A). It was at a price point between Hershey's and Ghirardelli: $2 and packaged like the expensive brands so I thought I was safe...
Exhibit B:
I should have listened to my gut when I opened the outer packaging and saw this (exhibit B)! No respectable chocolate maker does this. What? Is it a freaking granola bar? No. It should be a foil wrapper. I had to use my teeth to open it!
I broke off one square and as soon as it hit my tongue I wanted to spit it back out...but I ain't no quitter so I chewed. It tasted like the alcohol smell that hits you when you enter a hospital. I. Kid. You. Not.
Moral of my story: If you can't figure it out, then enjoy you hospital chocolate bar.
My top 2 chocolate bars are...

Green & Black's is the smoothest dark chocolate I have found, the Ghirardelli is my back up.
So, what is your favorite chocolate bar?
Well, I'll just have to go do some research. It's a tough job, but...yada,yada. 😉
ReplyDeleteBe careful out there! The search for the perfect chocolate bar is wrought with danger...bring back up.
DeleteSurprised to see Midnight Reverie on here --- it's my personal go-to chocolate! I buy it in bags of individually wrapped squares and keep it in the freezer. One square of this high-powered dark stuff satisfies the most intense cravings! In a pinch, Ghirardelli's Twilight Delight will work too, but it's not as satisfying. I cringe at regular candy-bars -- I don't want the sugary sweetness, I just want that deep, almost bitter chocolate taste. I've been known to make dark cocoa powder (the kind you buy for baking) into a hot drink without sweetening, the way it's been used historically in Central and South America. I haven't tried Green-and-Black's chocolate, but now I'm going to!
ReplyDeleteWe try to keep a bag of the squares around too. I'm a big dark chocolate fan. I know you can get Green and Black's at Whole Foods...but I could have sworn I've seen it at Walmart now...should be near the Lindt and Ghirardelli.
DeleteMy favorite chocolate bars have always been Cadburys caramel.
ReplyDeleteI love the Cadbury candy coated chocolate eggs! I put them in the freezer and grab a few every time I go into the kitchen...which is often...they don't last long.
DeleteI love Dove dark chocolate.
ReplyDeleteDove Bites, milk chocolate. I watched a youtube video "Irish people eat American chocolate". Very funny. The comment about the weird taste of Hershey Kisses is spot on, but I was so used to it I just ignored it.
ReplyDeleteAmerican chocolate has a lot of wax in in, from what I understand. You can really tell once you have tried "real" chocolate Dove makes a very smooth chocolate.
DeleteOh oh. That's really unfortunate. Blergs. I've been liking the harris teeter chocolate lately. They have some fancy looking ones with pretty labels. They're about 4 bucks each but go on sale fairly often for 2 for 4 so I snag them up then.
ReplyDeleteI'll have to try their brand... my husband likes a fancy Foodlion brand bar. I'm such a chocolate snob though
DeleteThe best chocolate is European. Like Belgin chocolate. It is rich though. Be forewarned. Hershey's was great when I was a kid, but since 90s so-so. Not the same chocolate bar. And so everyone knows, I was 18 in '72 and just had a birthday last week, so do the math, how long ago Hershey;s was good chocolate. And American Cadbury's and the good Cadbury's 100 degrees not the same. English is better, but we don;t get theirs here. I've taste both.
ReplyDeleteThis is so funny. I just grabbed a Godiva (Belgian) dark chocolate bar today. Admittedly, I'm not that discerning when it comes to chocolate ;)
