Something wicked this way comes…
When her aunt died, level-headed accountant Clare Cermak inherited a fortune—as well as a phantom dog and the power to help ghosts move on. Her new gift led her to Zach Slade, a sexy private investigator with a unique psychic gift of his own, and the man who’s slowly opening her heart. But as they work toward building a future together, a sinister threat emerges.

An evil ghost is ravaging Creede, Colorado, threatening to devour the spirit of an innocent boy. Inexperienced in facing such a powerful ghost—and knowing her spirit, too, could be ripped away—Clare still can't refuse to help. With Zach’s support she uncovers the ghost’s identity, and the ancestral weapon required to slay it. But does Clare dare to use that weapon before the ghost destroys the man she loves—and her own spirit?

When a young boy’s great-grandmother hires medium Clare Cermak and her partner, Zach Slade, to go to Creede, Colorado and protect the child from an evil, ghost killing spirit who eats them, they do. They have to find the true name of the spirit doing this in order to extinguish it. More than that, they both must learn to trust each other and lean toward the love they find in each other. Most of all, Clare must learn quickly how to use an ancestral bone knife, her dead aunt had left her, to kill the evil ghost. Otherwise the evil spirit may rip out her soul and devour it, killing her in the process.

Robin D. Owens wove Old West history facts and interesting characters quite well with a sexy, sometimes scary paranormal tale that soon became hard to put down. It knocked my socks off.

Review: Ghost Layer (Ghost Seer #2)

I give Ghost Killer (Ghost Seer Series) 5 sheep.

Book Review: Ghost Layer (Ghost Seer #2) by Robin D. Owens

Ghost Layer (Ghost Seer #2)
by Robin D. Owens
What lies beneath…

Clare Cermak’s adjusting to a new man in her life—and a lot of ghosts. The passing of Clare’s aunt gave way to a sizeable inheritance of not only money, but also the ability to communicate with the dead. At the same time, she met Zach Slade, a private detective with a rough past, and just like Clare, he’s not yet ready to accept her gift—or his own.

But Clare has another matter to look into. A multimillionaire needs her help after relocating an old ghost town to his mountain estate. The bones of a murdered prospector are making nightly appearances in his guests’ beds. When the gold miner’s ghost contacts Clare, she promises to help find the name of his killer—but someone doesn't want the past revealed and might find her first.

Ghost Layer picks up just a very brief time after book one, Ghost Seer, ends. Zach is returning from a brief business trip and Clare has been busy setting up her new home and continues to come to terms with and accept her gift of sight. They are both insecure in their feelings for each other, feeling very fragile, and trying to be cool about the relationship in fear of being hurt.

Well as life would have it, no sooner than they get together Clare gets a call from Zach's new boss asking for a meeting with a client regarding a haunting in an old ghost town and up pops the ghost of a gold miner who is asking her to find his killer. Thus the adventure begins bringing attempts on Clare's life and spookly pranks.

I enjoyed this installment, although it was a bit darker than book one. Clare and Zach resolve some issues and there is plenty of action culminating in a satisfying resolution. Once again the writing is wonderfully done and a new host of very colorful characters make an appearance, some are even see-through. There is also a great afterward from the author regarding some of the research for the writing of this book. I would recommend this book for those who enjoy a ghostly tale with colorful characters and a bit of romance thrown in with the action. I received this book from NetGalley.

Book Review: Ghost Seer (Ghost Seer #1) by Robin D. Owens

Ghost Seer (Ghost Seer #1)
By: Robin D. Owens

There’s just something about Clare. Apart from the ghosts…...

When her eccentric aunt passes away, no-nonsense accountant Clare Cermac inherits more than just a small fortune. She receives the gift of communicating with ghosts. While Clare may not believe in spirits, it’s hard to overlook the shadowy talking dog appearing on her bed or spectral cowboys tipping their hats to her in the streets of Denver. And when she locks eyes with sexy—and living—Zach Slade, there’s certainly no ignoring him either.

A former deputy sheriff, Zach is leaving a painful past behind in Montana for a new life in Denver as a private investigator, a job that has him crossing paths with beautiful Clare. Not that she minds. After the restless ghost of a Wild West gunman demands her assistance, Clare finds herself needing Zach more and more—and not just for help.

Ghost Seer is a bright beginning to what I anticipate being a rollicking fun series. We are introduced to Clare who is a very practical young woman with no belief in ghosts or spirits, as well as to Zach who is a cynical former deputy sheriff who has been injured and is no longer able to work in the field. Both are dealing with sudden life changes that have resulted in no longer being able to continue to function in the familiar lives they have worked so hard to build for themselves.

Clare is now seeing spirits who expect her to help them pass on, which her logical accountant's mind is unwilling to accept and she fears she is going insane. Zach has become bitter over his injury, which prevents him from performing his chosen life's work. Oh and we mustn't forget our introduction to Enzo, who in case you are wondering is an absolutely marvelous ghost dog who slobbers ghostly slobber while following Clare around trying to get her to admit she sees the spirits and proceed with her destiny.

The world building is wonderful, the characters brilliantly colorful, and both are very well executed and a delight to read. Ghost Seer, while filled with excentric characters, action, and mystery is not a dark read, but rather a fun romp through the genre that leaves you feeling good on completion of the tale. The story is complete with a very satisfying ending, yet there is still hope for further adventures for this fun group of characters and I cannot wait to read what the author has in store for us next.

Ghost Seer is a little ray of sunshine that left this reader with a smile and a lesson that even when the circumstances and chosen paths are disrupted and broken, there is optimism in self-acceptance and one can adapt and move on to new adventures. Definitely a recommend read for those looking for a well written fun ghostly tale with likable characters and a fine adventure. I received this book via NetGalley.
