Paranormal mystery author Lori Zaremba shares her poems + excerpt

Lori Zaremba is sharing two of her inspirational poems with the flock today!

Ursula Songweaver
Song Weaver dances -
with heart pure
and arms open wide.
She draws down the moon
and wraps herself
in the enchanted light.
Casting a circle,
she summons Diana
from her crescent perch.
The night birds croon as she touches the earth.
”Goddess of light and love- I beckon thee.”
Ursula dresses a candle with oil
Made from mugwort leaves.
”Grant me vision- and knowledge I seek.”
She carves her intention in the wax with her athame.
”Hear me now my divine Queen
No harm or foul, by thy decree.”
A smile of beautiful joy-lights Ursula’s face.
A voice soft and rhythmic
she heralds a chorus- to her grace.
By Lori Zaremba

The Awakening
The first rays of sunshine flicker, and speckle, over the waves.
Dawn is approaching -stock-still, with bated breath, I wait.
I realize my heart is light as a seagulls feather
My spirit as dazzling as the sun on the sea
I lift my face to the heavens
A consciousness -guided by the compass in me.
Goodbye melancholy-you were such a constant friend
My wandering soul must sail- Seek new soils- and never look back again.

Trudy Hicks Ghost Hunter (Case Two-The Kept)
by Lori Zaremba
5/28/2019
Genre: Paranormal Mystery
Publisher: Limitless Publishing
If anyone tells you hunting ghosts is less dangerous than chasing down real-life criminals, they’re wrong. Very, very wrong.

Case two takes us to a New Jersey Shore Inn. A beautiful, yet dead opera singer seems to be begging for help, but her pleas do nothing but terrorize the locals.

While trying to decipher the clues to her 1919 disappearance, uncovering hair-raising horrors, it becomes clear that Jason and I no longer see eye-to-eye.

Jason wants me to stop meddling with the supernatural. He wants me to stop risking my life by interacting with demons and spirits.

What he doesn’t understand is this is my life. These tortured souls need my help in order to move on. How do I walk away from that—from them?

But the better question is—how do I walk away from him?

Trudy Hicks Ghost Hunter Case One- The Deceit
Excerpt:
The dog, who had been sleeping at her feet, let out a low snarl and stood at attention. His focus was on the window that faced the lawn by the pool and the beach beyond. Trudy pushed back her chair and stood stiffly and tip-toed quietly to the window, and peered out.

Her heart rose in her throat when she saw him and recognized him immediately from her dream. The stern face and cold eyes of the un-named uncle stared back at her. He stood just ten feet away on the lawn, illuminated in the moonlight and looking just like he did on the beach that day in her dream.

She turned and dashed out of the room, pulling her phone from the pocket of her shorts and heading toward the doors by the pool to chase the phantom down. Rocky, yapping and whining, was by her side.
Trudy padded lightly through the pool area and out the wrought-iron gate that led to the lawn and the beach beyond. She gave a command to the big dog for silence and directed him around the pool shed opposite her. The light from her cell phone illuminated the corner of the structure, Trudy knew if anyone or thing were hiding there, Rocky would flush them out toward her.

The night was still and humid. She felt a bead of perspiration trickle down her temple to her cheek and whisked it away. The crash of the waves on the other side of the dune was the only sound interrupting the silence.

The two-way radio on her belt sounded. “Where the hell are you?” came Jason’s voice.

She listened into the night for a moment then whispered, “By the pool shed,” before turning down the volume when she heard Rocky snarl.

Her heart pounded furiously in her chest, and she fought off the spell of dizziness that suddenly overcame her. Rocky’s bark was louder and more urgent. She pressed against the structure and made her way toward the sound.

The hair on the back of her neck rose, and a chill slid down her body while her knees went weak. She knew someone was just beyond her line of vision. She sensed it, her nerves screamed it, and the loud noise that was coming from the big dog a few feet away confirmed it.

Now at the end of the structure, leaning against the warm metal siding not only for cover but balance, Trudy gazed outover the lawn then ever so slowly peeked around the corner.

“What the hell are you doing?” Jason whispered harshly behind her, causing her to screech. Trudy stumbled awkwardly back when something white flew through the air directly at her head. She ducked, and the thing hissed as it catapulted over Jason’s shoulder and landed a few feet away.

“A cat?” The feline looked at them grumpily before darting up the nearest tree when Rocky gave chase.

“This is why you came out here? A damn cat?” Jason checked his shoulder where the feline’s claws tore his shirt. Satisfied that the skin underneath was not wounded, he looked up at her, waiting for her reply.

Trudy ignored his question and stepped forward to fuss over his shoulder, not trusting that it was unscathed, and ran her hand over the smooth skin. She avoided eye contact. Jason grabbed the hand on his shoulder and pulled her closer.

“So, Hicks, are you going to tell me what the hell brought you out here when I specifically told you to stay put?” He studied her face before dropping his eyes to her lips.

Trudy pushed back the heavy weight of her hair from her sweaty brow and brushed a kiss the scruffy hair on his chin.

“Umm, I think you should learn quick, Young, that I don’t do well with orders.”

WIP it Real Good: Author Lori Zaremba shares from Case Three - The Hex, a paranormal mystery

Meet Ursula in Case Three –The Hex (Trudy Hicks Ghost Hunter)
By Lori Zaremba

Ursula may have her own series soon.

Everyone who knows me, knows I’m a witch- oh I may not flaunt it, and I let very few into my circle of shall I say trust. However, I have helped quite a few of you realize your joy, giving you success and casting secret spells of love, money, peace, and proper digestion. Yes, my dears, hat was me whispering encouragement in your ear when you were unsure of what steps to take. Those were my muscles that fended off your attacker when you were alone and ambushed, and that was my broom that smacked you in the ass when... well, you know when and why.

It’s crucial for you to know that I don’t want anyone to fear me- as you should know that the sacred code I live by is “Harm ye none,” and even though my heart belongs to Diana, goddess of the moon. My power breaths from the four elements of air, earth, water, and fire, the very things that give you life. Most folks do not understand that I exist in accordance with the real teachings of Christ, Buddha, and Muhammad. The reason I am coming out, so to speak is that my spirit can no longer remain dormant, my heart is breaking, and the fire coursing through my veins consumes me. Hell hath no fury~ like a pissed off, green-eyed witch! The reason for my ire is that a foreign Satanic Witch for hire has cast a spell, over our beloved country. I saw the ripple of darkness forming some time ago as fear, prejudice, and whispers of racism could be detected amongst us. Since then it has grown with greed, intolerance and now it has taken on a life of its own, a deep seeded festering bile. This incantation has once good men and woman believing that crimes against women and children are okay and pedophiles and womanizer's have acceptable leadership qualities to admire. It now has religious leaders leading their congregations astray and away from the real cultivation of Jesus Christ who if you sincerely understand, then you know that his fundamental teachings were about nothing more than unconditional love. I can no longer stand by and watch this scourge engulf our nation, but my power alone is not significant enough to battle this army of evil. I am calling on all witches, holy ones, light workers, healers, women, men and familiars to grab a wand, holy water or just a sprig of sage and help me cast the darkness from our beloved home.

Some secrets are meant to stay buried.

My job? I hunt ghosts. Not to prove they exist—because I already know they do—but to figure out why they’re still here.

My first big case leads me to a mansion on the Chicago Gold Coast, the previous home of a wealthy socialite who lived there until she accidentally fell to her death in 1927.

I’ve never been this determined—and excited—to solve a case like this one before. Pity I’m forced to work alongside a man whose sole purpose is to debunk paranormal activity. But the worst part? He’s gorgeous, and the more we work together, the more I realize I might be falling for him.

Together we’re delving deeper and deeper into the spiritual world. But the more secrets we uncover, the more pissed off these ghosts become; and that’s when I start to realize…we might be in way over our heads.

Excerpt:
Looking once again across the table at Jason, she noticed he was listening to his two-way radio.

“I’ll go check it out,” Trudy heard him say as he excused himself.

“Is everything all right?” Paul started to rise from the dinner table.

“Everything is fine. Sit and relax. I have to go and check one of the cameras.” Jason slipped from the room.

Trudy caught up to him at the base of the stairs. “What’s going on?”

He looked at her warily. “One of the cameras on the third floor caught the door of your room slamming shut.”

“Oh, I left it open for the dog when I came down to dinner.”

“Jasmine?” He raised a questioning brow as he referred to the golden retriever who was sound asleep under the dining table.

“No.” She bit her lip and tried not to laugh at his puzzled expression. “I left it open for the other dog that was whining and scratching at my door.”

“Oh, I see, the imaginary one,” he quipped, climbing the stairs two at a time. Trudy was almost at a sprint to keep up, careful not to slip in her high heels. They finally reached the third floor. The air was so thick that Trudy could barely move her legs and felt the hair on the back of her neck rising in warning.

“Shhh. Did you hear that?” A door slammed from inside her room.

“What the hell was that?” Jason said as he reached for the door, looking down at her.

“It’s probably just a little mouse,” she said, causing him to frown down at her before slowly turning the knob.

They entered the room as quietly as possible, and a blast of frigid air struck them. Jason reached over to flip the switch for the light. Everything was normal. They quickly searched the room for any signs of a disturbance. The room was just as she left it, and the door to the bathroom was open as before. She couldn’t figure out what made the slamming noise that they heard.

“Uh, were you typing an email earlier?” Jason asked, looking at her laptop.

“Oh, yeah, to my mom. I forgot.”

“You better take a look at this.”

Trudy looked at the screen and saw her email was still up. She had written, “Hi, Mom. We’re at the house. All is well. Please...” That was where she stopped when she’d been interrupted by a phone call, and that was where it looked like the email went wild with,

“EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG.”

The two letters repeated the whole way down the page. “How is that possible?” she questioned.

“Maybe your keys are stuck.” He bent down to get a better look at the keys then tapped them to see if they were sticking.

“Please, there’s nothing wrong with the keys. Someone was playing.”

“Who?”

She rolled her eyes. “I’m not talking about a human.”

“You think a ghost did this?” Humor danced around his mouth as he tried to keep from smiling.

“Well, it certainly could be a possibility, and it is the reason we’re here.”

“Not we, you. I’m here to look at things rationally.”

“Rationally...really?” She was irritated, folding her arms over her chest and glaring at him. “What was rational about the events that led us into this room? And for the love of God, what was rational about what happened to you in the basement?”

Jason sat on the bed, elbows on his knees, and looked down at the floor. “I don’t know, but I plan to find out.”

She looked at him for a moment and could almost feel his confusion. He was a bit lost in all this chaos. She sat beside him and mimicked his pose. Trudy elbowed him on the arm, and the simple touch sent a thrill racing through her body. “I guess we have our work cut out for us.”

His gaze settled on her half-smile. “At least it won’t be boring.”

Her heart did a somersault. “Yeah, I don’t do well with boring.”

Feeling brazen, she leaned over and planted a quick kiss on his mouth. His eyes widened in surprise, and Trudy jumped up, grinning from ear to ear.

“Let’s go, Mr. Young. They’re probably wondering what’s happened to us.” She was halfway out the door.

Jason grabbed her hand before she could reach the hall and spun her around. His lips claimed hers before she could grasp what was happening. Trudy felt his hand on the small of her back molding her to him, while his other hand gently held her head. She felt a thrill like never before, and just as her knees started to give out, he released her.

“Better hurry, Gertrude. Wouldn’t want anyone to think you were trying to take advantage of me in this here grand bedroom.” He smiled into her eyes, and once again she was lost. She shook her head to clear it and get some control of her senses.

“We better go, or I’ll be taking advantage of you.” She laughed, and he did too. She loved the sound of it. She glanced over her shoulder. “I hope that damned camera of yours was turned off.”

As they headed out the door, Jason walking just behind her, he grimaced when he saw the red light on the camera on and grunted, “Oh, shit.”
