Albert Nobbs, directed by Rodrigo Garcia and written by Glenn Close and John Banville stars Glenn Close, Mia Wasikowska (Jane Eyer) Janet McTeer, Aaron Johnson (Kick-Ass) Brendan Gleeson (The Guard) and Jonathan Rhys Meyers (Tudors). It's truly a fascinating and heartfelt movie with layers upon layers of depth underneath the main storyline which will creep up and steal your heart.
Plot:

Glenn Close and Janet McTeer were both nominated for best actress and best supporting actress, respectively, for their roles in this period drama. Albert Nobbs gets an additional nomination in the makeup category it's plain to see why. Glenn BECOMES Albert Nobbs, and yes you know it's still her and yes it's kinda easy for the movie watcher to think "I would be able to tell it's a woman". But if you get inside the heads of these characters you'd be able to see how for them not ever knowing or seeing her as woman they could think she (or he actually) is just a small, kind man. Glenn sells it to the audience, you buy it and you want more.
When push comes to shove what will a young poor Irish gal do? Choose the young hotty male with his wicked hands OR choose the older stable man that could give her a life? Heart-wrenching at times, you want to shake Albert and knock some sense into the poor man/woman. Only adding to the amount of feeling the audience invests in the story as a whole.
What surprised me the most was the amount of laugh out loud moments. Quite a few left me feeling uplifted one moment then back in the madness the next. Such a wonderful script and solid performances across the board from all the actors both big and small. Gleeson may not be young and desirable in the eyes of Hollywood, but man I got your number. Crush is not the word I'd use to describe the feelings I have for this hunk-o-man. Bearded giant and lovable bear, come get you some honey!
But back to the film, it was amazingly directed by Garcia who's got to be one of the most underrated film makers working today. The only downside was predictability. I can't and won't give a perfect rating (despite what my girlfriend Ceci thinks!) for a film that I can see the next turn coming. While it's still intriguing to watch, I want a film to emotionally grab me, shake me around a bit then throw me against the wall and laugh in my face! Ok, maybe that was taking it too far but you get the idea. Keep me guessin' people!
Final nods to beautiful sets and period dress bring it all home making Albert Nobbs one to watch, it's a loaded plate and a little doggie bag to take with you.
