Okay, so Labor Day I got to go to the Ohio Renaissance Festival, and Katie asked me to take some pictures while I was there for the blog.
There are a lot of bad puns that Katie probably will love. Anyway expect some more
Ooooh, lots and lots of shiny weapons.
Om nom nom nom, tasty turkey leg.
One of the great things about Renaissance Festivals is getting to see people doing different crafts like blacksmithing and glassblowing.
I didn't actually watch this guy and his "Renaissance Heavy Metal", but I could hear him from all the way across the field.
I always enjoy watching people who do fencing exhibitions at the Faire. They told me to take a picture at this point.
Some pretty chainmail. I didn't get any this year, but maybe someday.
|
As well as performances, there are always musicians playing period music. An important thing to remember is that they get most of their income in tips, so if they do a good job, tip generously! |
My favorite event at the Faire every year is the joust. I talked to one of the knights afterwards and he said that the
Knights of Valour, the organization of jousters, work to rescue horses and use them as warhorses. Apparently the horses really love the festivals because they get all sorts of attention and they find the jousts really fun.

Uhhhh, did someone let Katie out of her box? Great, now I'm going to have to hunt her down. |
|
Wait, no I found her. Looking for Highlanders. |
|
More blacksmithing. |
|
Seeing chainmail being made. |
|
Some musicians also bring CDs of their stuff, so if you hear something you like, don't be afraid to buy. |
|
Stonemason |
|
Troll guarding a bridge. |
|
Now, I know a lot of this seems grown-up, but there are plenty of events for the kiddies too. |
|
She ended up tossing the sword to the guy next to me. I guess she missed. |
|
And a final joke. |
What wonderful pics. Many years ago I went to a big one in So. Calif and wow this brings back memories. What fun, thanks for sharing :)
ReplyDeleteHow fun! Thanks so much for sharing these photos. I've always wanted to attend a Renaissance Fair - bit tough to find one in Alaska!
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry did Ben say something? I was hanging out at this great pub filled with highlanders! Anywho if anyone see's my coffin please let me know, got a bit wasted with the hunks last night and saw a sign about taking cloths off.
ReplyDeleteRight, still looking for my top too.....
lol What a fun day at the fair Ben! Awesome pics so jealous :)
I want to go to a highlander pub!! Great post! I've never been to a Ren Festival. I know, right?
ReplyDeleteThis is so awesome!wow I'd to get my hands on some of those shiny weapons XD
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing all these lovely pictures I wish I was there ^_~
Oh it sounds fun ! Really great pictures !
ReplyDeleteamazing pics! I love going to these things. I wish i had known 1 was over in Ohio...I only live in Indiana so that would have been a short drive.
ReplyDeleteIt's not a pub, it's a place where they sold kilts and other highlander stuff. I figured I should take a picture for Katie because she gets distracted by things like that.
ReplyDeleteAlso for anyone in the general Ohio area, the Ohio Renaissance Festival is still running every Saturday and Sunday until October 16th this year. Gate opens at 10:30 AM and closes at 6:00 PM, so probably go early. Anyway anyone in the general region I highly encourage you all go to see it.
I'm so jealous!! I haven't gone yet this year, but I'm gonna! I had such a great time last year, as did my kids, so it's a good activity for the whole family (and the knights and rogues were quite good looking too!!) :D
ReplyDeleteThanks for posting! I spent two hours there last year in the midst of a full festival day (I think I did 4-5 that day), but I knew I could have easily spent an entire day there. I loved the atmosphere and the people. Here was my experience last year ( http://ohiofestivals.net/?p=121 ). I think I recognize some of the people in your pics.
ReplyDeleteOooh! That SO made me want to go to the one in KC again! *cries* we used to go every year, but I haven;t made it for.. well, a long time!
