Sheep Book Review: One Grave at a Time by author Jeanine Frost

One Grave at a Time, by author Jeanine Frost is the sixth book in her Night Huntress series; Cat and Bones are back and stronger then ever!

Plot:
Having narrowly averted an (under)world war, Cat Crawfield wants nothing more than a little downtime with her vampire husband, Bones. Unfortunately, her gift from New Orleans’ voodoo queen just keeps on giving–leading to a personal favor that sends them into battle once again, this time against a villainous spirit.

Centuries ago, Heinrich Kramer was a witch hunter. Now, every All Hallows Eve, he takes physical form to torture innocent women before burning them alive. This year, however, a determined Cat and Bones must risk all to send him back to the other side of eternity–forever. But one wrong step and they’ll be digging their own graves.

Cat and Bones have had some serious struggles over this series, and with each book you never know what's going to be thrown into the mix next. Will they breakup or won't they? Will Cat ever stop trying to do things solo, thinking that's the only option? I love the drama of it all. Cat Crawford practically embodies action and kick-ass girl power in one person. She's a snappy-mouthed quick-witted gal who takes no crap when called out and the best part is she has the the skills to back it up!

So this time around we have Cat and Bones setting out on a mission to take down a really bad ghost, and hard part about fighting a ghost is the obvious. They are as thin as air and can poof out whenever they want. But our dynamic duo comes up with some nice tricks to even the playing field a little. One thing I didn't like about this book was the lack of emotional investment I had with the situation. Yes Heinrich is a really bad dude with a history of delusion and some major grudges against women and witches but he kinda just came into the scene. You didn't know anything about the guy until this book, so there's no build up to his character. I only got into the book at all just based on the amazingly vivid writing style of Frost but I would have liked to had more characterization for Heinrich and more about his motivations. You do get everything wrapped up at the end but it felt a little quick and tidy. Not a lot of details on the final chapter of how it all came to be sorted out.

So, the negatives aside, the overall book is pure entertainment, Cat and Bones get to meet back up with Spade, Denise and Ian. This book is heavy in the action department for those that love a good "cat" fight. Plus you will never be disappointed in the romance department with these two; Bones is hands down one of the most smoking hot characters I've ever read about. The man knows how to treat his lady, so men please take notes. I thought this series had covered quiet a large range of different ways to get hot and heavy but I was wrong. ***spoiler alert*** Can we all say Mile High Club. Oh yes my friends, Cat gets inducted into the exclusive club this time around. LOVED it. ***end of spoiler alert***

Lots of humor from the fun loving egomaniac vamp Ian, I can't wait for him to finally get his own story. I know it's coming and the wait is killing me. Still would like to see them all meet up with there long lost buddy from back in the day when they were all slaves but all in good time. One Grave at a Time will keep you invested in the series and plenty entertained till the end.

  3. Jeaniene Frost is certainly a wonderful author. This series is wonderful. I have read a few and others of course are on the wishlist. So many books for this greedy girl - oh to be able to sit and read and snack for twenty-four hours a day (the ultimate dream). Thanks for your awesome review today, this is a title I have not yet read.

  6. I thought this book was pretty good...after waiting for so long it reminded me why I love this series. There was definitely not as much romance as Frost usually adds but it was still a good read!
