3D Cover Art Tutorial by Donna Augustine

Have you wanted to make that cool 3D cover image for your website? Author Donna Augustine agreed to show us how she does it!

This tutorial was done in Artstudio, a tablet app available on most devices.

First, download this image onto your tablet.

Select File/Import…/Insert as a Layer
Select your cover.
You should see your cover as the image now.

Select Edit/Distort Layer

Little blue boxes will appear. Drag the four corners as close as you can to line up to the black base. This is hard to get exact. Use the eraser icon (7th option on the left side menu) to touch up overhang.

Select the T from the side menu. It will ask if you want to add a text layer. Select yes.

This is what you should see now. Type in the text field, and using two fingers, spin it around to line up on the spine. We'll adjust the size in the last step.

On the top menu, select Layer/Rasterize Text.

That allows us to be able to distort the text in the next step.

Top menu again, select Edit/Distort Layer.

Again, we get the little blue boxes. Line them up so the lines run parallel to the lines of the spine, narrowing slightly with distance.

If you have any questions leave them in the comments and Donna will answer if she can.

There are more detailed instructions we can send to you.
