TAKEN: The timber wolves of Fallston, South Dakota fall prey to an international ring of fur trappers. Unfortunately, timber wolves are not all they capture. Taken by a savage group of criminals and transported half a world away to Denmark, two young boys must set aside their sibling rivalry to survive the violence that surrounds them.
HAUNTED: Julie Walker is haunted by the loss of her sons and haunted by the reappearance of the one man she never wanted to see again in her lifetime, Hayden Kolding. He has an agenda, and a surprising ally, forcing Julie to confront a side of herself that she has fought long and hard to deny.
But life is seldom simply a matter of black and white. As victim becomes victor and hunter becomes hunted, there is a world of gray. And Gray Walker is out for blood.
In this second paranormal novel by Lisa M. Airey, it has been years since the last book. Julie is married to Gray Walker, Sioux and a werewolf, and they have eight-year-old twin sons, Bear and Kit. Julie discovered in the last book that she is a lycant, meaning a female werewolf, but they cannot shift. And why Gray pursued her and they married. In this novel, wolves have been migrating from Canada down to the Dakotas, and heading back up again. With them are the tracks of a three-toed wolf. Steel wolf traps are set in the State park, Wolves caught in the traps are skinned of their fur are left there. But the three-toed wolf is not an ordinary wolf, but a lycanthrope too. And he with his gang, kidnaps the twins and takes them over the border to Canada, from there on a ship to Europe. He hopes to raise and train them to become future guards. But he doesn’t know at first they can shift into wolf cubs, something no young werewolf has ever done before.
Gray calls on help from the one man Julie never wanted to see again—the werewolf who had kidnapped her in the last book. In this book, he has changed after nine years and wanting to marry and mate with a human woman from Denmark. Between his resources among the werewolf community and Gray going to Europe himself, too, they searched for Bear and Kit who escaped from the evil werewolf and found sanctuary with some people in Denmark.
It starts off calmly, but with the twin’s kidnapping the suspense grows, especially after they escape their kidnapper and hide as wolf cubs in Denmark. Tense in the second half, as good vs evil race against the clock to achieve their goal. If you love paranormal and suspense books, then you will enjoy this novel: action, mythology, answers, and dynamic characters all rolled into one great story.
I give Touched by the Moon 41/2 sheep.
