Character Biographies in the Paranormal Romance Custodian by Montana Ash

I thought I would do a couple of character biographies for you. I would like to introduce you to Max and Ryker – the leading couple in Custodian as well as book one, Warden.

Name: Max
Status: Spoiler!
Domain: Spoiler!
Order: Aurora
Height: 5’3
Eye colour: Turquoise
Hair colour: Deep, dark red
Age: 40ish
Nationality: Australian
Nickname: Max
Significant other: Ryker
Background: Constantly on the move, Max had no memory of anything before she woke up on the streets of Sydney, Australia when she was around fourteen years old. She suffers from seizures when she is stressed, tired, or sick. She has been stalked by the chades for years without understanding why, or who they are, or who she is. Max is a graphic novelist and sleeps with a Japanese tanto sword, she lovingly calls Joy.

Quotes:

“Look at this hand here. Picture it loaded with all my wants and needs and deep, deep desires … Now look at this hand, but this time picture it filled with a great big pile of gorilla shit. Now which one do you think I’m likely to get more of? … Because past history dictates that I’m getting the primate turd.” Warden, pg. 51

“I just saw Ryker’s meatcicle.” Warden, pg. 101

“Would you like me to squeeze your neck so hard that blood starts to leak from your dick slit?” Warden, pg. 252

“I’m not interested in anything you or your fellow haemorrhoids have to say. In fact, I don’t want to even look at you, because honestly? All I see are skid marks.” Warden, pg. 251

“ … I couldn’t survive you Ryker. I know I couldn’t. I think you are the one thing in this world that could ruin me. So please don’t do this. Leave me be.” Warden, pg. 237

Name: Ryker
Status: Paladin, Captain
Domain: Life
Order: Aurora
Liege: Max
Height: 6’4
Eye colour: Deep brown
Hair colour: Black
Age: 205
Nationality: English
Nickname: Ry, Inmate
Significant other: Max
Background: Born and raised in England and was originally in the Order of Ember. His liege, Flint, and his entire Order were killed in the Great Massacre fifty years ago. Ryker began running the Lodge, the training centre for the new paladin recruits. He was bequeathed land and monies from his previous liege, and established a ‘camp’ for other lost, dishonoured and downtrodden knights.

Quotes:
“You look like shit.” Warden, pg. 16

“Aurora. You know, like the Aurora Borealis? The Northern Lights? I saw it once. Like a floating rainbow; a coloured road of mist in the sky. Purples, pinks and blues swirling in the atmosphere. It was the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen. Your eyes looked like that when you were having your nightmare.” Warden, pg. 129

“The only person you’re going to be sitting on is me!” Warden, pg. 168

“No. Because you call Darius dude, and cook special meals just for Beyden. Because you stand up for the rights of wardens you don’t even know and talk to slater bugs. Because you defend the honour of a too-honourable man and heal the scars of a wounded face … and a wounded soul … Because you belong to me and I belong to you.” Warden, pg. 262

With lines being drawn in the sand and sides being chosen, the future from her nightmares seems set in motion. Max is terrified – feeling the weight of her Order’s lives on her shoulders. But she’s also resolute, because she’s calling do-over on their entire society!

Ryker had been a miserable bastard for years before Max stumbled into his life and turned his whole world upside down. Months ago, she arrived and offered him everything he swore he would never want or need. Now there was no question; he was blissfully whipped. But who would have thought that winning Max’s heart wasn’t the real fight?

With the rot at the centre of their society uncovered and the hidden threat identified, Max and Ryker must unite all – wardens, paladins, rangers, and chades – if they are to defeat their common enemy.

But hey, with a Goddess on their side, how hard can it be?

Excerpt:
"We totally crushed that. High five," Max wheezed out, holding her hand up.

Despite his exhausted and satiated state, Ryker laughed, raising his hand high enough to give her a companionable slap before grinning at her.

"What?" Max asked.

Ryker shook his head, "Nothing. It’s just you. You are so awesome."

Max snorted, stretching languidly and causing his idiotic body to stir once more, "I could have told you that.”

"I know you could. But it loses a little something when you say it yourself," he informed her.

Max rolled her head to look at him once more, "I've never found that to be true.”

Her words caused him to snort out another laugh, "Why doesn't that surprise me?"

The shock of seeing so many bodies had reality returning swiftly and the ramifications of what she was about to do had bile rushing to her throat. “This can’t be why I was made,” Max whispered, turquoise eyes desolate as she watched the writhing mass of evil bodies in the distance. She didn’t see Ryker move but he was suddenly in front of her, cupping her face in his large hands. His russet eyes held hers captive as he spoke;

“It’s not. You were made for me.”

His lips brushed hers, once, twice, and a third time. The kiss was soft and sweet as if they had all the time in the world. Max was still a little out of breath when he pulled back, despite the leisurely pace. She stood up on her toes so she could wrap her arms around Ryker’s neck, smiling and shaking her head; “How does the man who called me a liar and told me I looked like shit, always know the exact right thing to say now?” she asked, absently playing with the hair on his nape.

Ryker grinned, “I’m complicated.”

About the Author:
Montana is an Aussie, self-confessed book junkie. Although she loves reading absolutely everything, her not-so-guilty pleasure is paranormal romance. Alpha men – just a little bit damaged – and feisty women – strong yet vulnerable – are a favourite combination of hers. Throw in some steamy sex scenes, a touch of humour, and a little violence and she is in heaven! She is a scientist by day, a writer by night, and a reader always!
