YA Fantasy Author Stacey O’Neale: Top 10 Reasons the Mortal World Sucks + giveaway

Top 10 Reasons the Mortal World Sucks

1. No magic. Yeah, we should definitely have magic. There’s so much we could do to better our way of life. I’d like to magically make my food instead of cooking, and have my house cleaned and laundry washed. I could get creative with magic.

2. No portals. Can you imagine how often we could travel if we had portals? We could go from one country to another in a matter of seconds. You could visit any place you wanted, and you wouldn’t have to worry about paying for it. The weather is starting to get cold around here, and I’d love to have a portal to Fuji right now.

3. School sucks. Who wouldn’t want to go to magic school? I mean, seriously. I’ve read enough Harry Potter books to know that Hogwort’s is way better than anything a mortal school can produce.

4. No glamours. If we had glamours we could get rid of shopping altogether. All we’d have to do is think about what we wanted to wear, and boom, you’re wearing it. Got a pimple? No problem. You can hide that behind a glamour. Dark circles under your eyes? Yeah, we could get rid of those too. The possibilities are endless.

5. Money. You need money to survive in the mortal world. You have to work, pay bills, buy cars, houses, etc. There’s no way around it.

6. Bad weather. In my magical world, elementals control the weather. Not in the mortal world. We have to tolerate hurricanes, tornadoes, snow, floods, and that’s just naming a few. It would be so much better if we could change the weather into something desirable whenever we wanted.

7. No privacy. Avalon is protected by a mist, which makes the entire isle invisible to mortals. There’s nothing but privacy. Plus, when they’re in the mortal world they can hide behind a glamour if they want. Ugh…what I wouldn’t give for a glamour.

8. Living indoors. Elementals are part of nature, so they prefer to live outdoors. Even in their castles, there are always open windows and ceilings. The weather is perfect all of the time. They could sleep on a beach if they wanted or on the top of a mountain. Tell me that doesn’t sound cool.

9. Too many rules. Elementals have a court system in place, but they decide how they live day-to-day. It’s not like the mortal world where you have laws you have to follow. Governments who make decisions on your behalf.

10. No shape-shifting. In my series, some of the fire elementals can shift into an animal form. I wouldn’t mind having that skill, especially if I get to pick the animal. How cool would it be to shift into a bird and fly or swim in the ocean like a dolphin? It would be something I’d like to try at least a few times.
