WIP it Real Good: PNR Author Abbie Roads + giveaway

I’m working on a dark romantic suspense tentatively titled Minds of Madness. It’s about a female true crime podcaster who is trying to solve the cold case of a paperboy who went missing twenty years ago. However, she is finding that the case is far from cold and nobody is happy that she’s asking questions.

A few paragraphs from Minds of Madness.

Setting: Pammy is sitting outside her cheap motel room in the middle of the night.

The door next to her room opened. Bright light spilled out. One booted foot stepped over the threshold, followed by another until a man stood there, his body back-lit.

She couldn’t make out his facial features, but she could see the way his body filled out his jeans. No saggy jeans on him. Nope. Those jeans hugged him in all the right places. Her gaze traveled up the snap button cowboy shirt he wore to his dark blond hair.

Not a whiff of metro-sexual came off him. He was pure testosterone. Any man who looked like that was pure trouble, too. She worked around guys like him for the past seven years at The Beaver’s Den. Guys who wielded their looks like a weapon.

She braced herself for his cocky come-on. To men like him, it didn’t matter that she wore baggy sweats and an oversized hoodie. It was like they had X-ray vision and could see beneath her clothing to her tits and ass and somehow divine that she was a stripper.

He didn’t say a word though, he just sat in the cheap plastic chair underneath his window, setting a six-pack of beer on the ground next to him. He stared out over the parking lot, while she stared at him.

His features were strong and hard, and she could see the pinch of frown lines bracketing his mouth. As if life had given him more reasons to frown than to smile. Without looking at her, he reached down, snagged a beer, popped the top on the edge of his chair and held it out to her.

The gesture surprising, since he hadn’t looked at her. When she didn’t move to take it, he turned to face her and the full force of his handsomeness was a kick in the girlnads.

His nose was straight. His high cheekbones sharply carved as if chiseled from field stone. A layer of blond scruff covered his cheeks and chin. An enticingly full upper lip gave him an almost boyish look, though he had to be in his thirties. But it was his eyes that convinced her that her original assessment was wrong. There was pain in those eyes. A pain so deep and dark that only someone like her recognized it. Because she had that same darkness inside her.

About the Author:
Seven Things about Abbie Roads:
1. She loves Snicker Parfaits. Gotta start with what's most important, right?
2. She writes dark emotional books featuring damaged characters, but always gives her hero and heroine a happy ending... after torturing them for three hundred pages.
3. By day she's a mental health counselor known for her blunt, honest style of therapy. At night she burns up the keyboard. Well... Burn might be too strong a word. She at least sits with her hands poised over the keyboard, waiting for inspiration to strike. And when it does--the keyboard might get a little warm.
4. She can't stand it when people drive slowly in the passing lane. Just saying. That's major annoying. Right?
5. She loves taking pictures of things she thinks are pretty.
6. She lives in Marion, Ohio with her favorite fellow and two fur babies.
7. Being a published author is a dream come true for her.
