Sheep Book Review: Wild About You by Kerrelyn Sparks

Wild About You, by Kerrelyn Sparks, is the 13th book in her PNR series Love at Stake. I'm not only a fan of this series but a fan of this author as well, and while Howard has always been a lovable background character I had some reservations about him being our leading man.

Plot:

It's not every day that Elsa Bjornberg feels delicate, not when she hosts a home renovation show where she can effortlessly demolish a kitchen. But from the moment she meets Howard Barr, this bear of a man makes her feel like a woman. And the way he looks at her, as if she were a pot of honey he'd like to lick . . .

Howard is not like most men. For one thing, he's a shapeshifter. And he always thought his celebrity crush would never amount to anything more than drooling at Elsa on TV. When his meddling vampire employer gets involved, the star is suddenly within his grasp—and within a hair of her life. For an ancient curse forbids their newfound love, and Howard is suddenly torn between his desire for her and his desire to keep her alive.

A few years back I was roaming the aisles of Borders (Back when they were still around) looking for something awesome to read. I happened to bump into a novel by Sparks and thought "why not", I am so glad that I gave this series a try. It's been one of the most rewarding reading experiences in my PNR collection. Each book has some of the most diverse characters I've ever met, and vivid stories that feel realistic. The paranormal world, for me, is a fun one to get into and Sparks does a superb job selling the reality and fantasy in her works.

So here we are with Howard, the teddy bear who is head of security at Romatech Industries. I was curious how Sparks was going to work this one out but yet again she pulls out her bucket of tricks and makes it magic happen. Howard, in previous stories, was not a heart throb by any means but when she explains why and how he's transformed some in the physical appearance it works. This guy's throwing the bear claw doughnuts back like nobody's business.

Our leading girl Elas steps onto the scene with her hammer and demo crew in tow, the Mrs Fix-it gal who's also the host of a hit TV show. I liked that she wasn't a small waif of a thing with beautifully styled hair and manicured nails. She's a real gal with her own beauty and a perfect fit for Howard.

What I didn't like in this whole love story was the wham-bam romance. A lot of build up goes on throughout the story but when it comes time for the hot and heavy, Howard is impatient and almost in a hurry, like he has somewhere else to be. Slow down dude, Romatech will be fine without you for a few days buddy.

That being said, I enjoyed all the other aspects of this story. The back story of the bears to present day was fascinating, and the comedy worked in always brings a smile to my face! Plus all the build up with the Dougal bits, loved it! This is one to read for fans of the series and someone just walking in!

The Alpha Male Blog Hop

our winner is
JanD!
Thanks to all that stopped by. Please check back for other contests/hops we have going on.
Have you ever wondered what it takes to make an Alpha Male? Is it the way he looks? His dark and stormy eyes, the way his body moves, the way he...well, I'll leave that last part up to you. What about the way he acts? Or treats his heroine? Thanks to Carrie Ann's Blog Hop for sponsoring this 228 stop hop!

Katie: For my alpha male pick I've got to go with the fine Scottish hunk Dougal Kincaid from author Kerrelyn Sparks 'Love at Stake' saga. This vampire male has the skills to pay the bills! Skilled in the art of kicking butts and taking names Dougal is also head of security at the Jean-Luc Echarpe estate in Texas. His quiet nature and shy personality lead people to believe he might not be a threat BUT little do they know this alpha could snap their necks in a second! It's always the quiet ones you should fear the most.

Dougal lost his right hand in 2008 but that's yet to slow him down! This guy has overcome the odds and can now expertly fence with his left hand. Musically inclined in the bagpipes just adds to my overall love and devotion for this highlander sex pot!

Sharon: My alpha male pick is Optimus Prime. When he isn't making me swoon over his robotic awesomeness, I can drive around in his cab. His sexy voice, sense of right and wrong and ability to bring it on and kill them all are what I love about Optimus Prime. I don't care that he is an Autobot. His All Spark can light my fire anytime!

Sheep Book Review: Wanted Undead or Alive by Kerrelyn Sparks

Wanted: Undead or Alive, by author Kerrelyn Sparks is the 12th installment in the 'Love At Stake' saga, one in which I am DEEPLY invested. So did our leading man and woman hold up the high expectations I've come to put on Sparks? Absofreakinloutley!

Plot:
He's a vampire from the big city . . .Phineas McKinney thought New York City was tough, until he was attacked by Malcontents—evil vampires who consider mortals to be snacks. Saved by the good vampires, Phin swore to devote his now undead life to stopping the Malcontents. He's got his job cut out for him when word comes that their enemy may be hiding in Wyoming. What does a city boy like him know about horses and campfires? Good thing he's got Brynley Jones with him . . . if only she didn't hate every vampire on earth.

She's a werewolf princess . . .Bryn believes vampires are seductive and charming, and that makes them dangerous. So she's more than a little annoyed about teaming up with Phin, even if he is the only bloodsucker able to make her inner wolf purr. But as they hunt down the new leader of the Malcontents, danger threatens . . . and Phineas and Brynley discover a passion that will rock the foundation of their supernatural world.

Phineas has been around in the series for a little while now. Known as Dr. Love, the man's goal in the beginning was to play matchmaker for his fellow vamp friends and overall sex stud to the ladies. What may have started out as a funny joke turned into a title he couldn't shake but one he rolled with anyway. I was really looking forward to reading how Kerrelyn was going to play this out, only because I knew him as a one trick pony for so long. BUT she gave him a major makeover without changing the man we've grown to love for his funny banter and witty jibes with fellow friends. He's been described to resemble a "young Denzel Washington" so it's no wonder the female community have been falling at the sexy man's feet. *fans self*

Bryn was a bit of a shocker for me, she's put off such stay away vibes I didn't really picture her being the one to snag the Love Doctor, but again Kerrelyn works it out and makes the "sparks" (get it? see what I did there?) fly! The country gal and the city boys interactions were hootin' funny at times, yet sentimental during others. These two really come a long way from the first to last pages but it all plays out with solid believability. Had some major City Slicker movie flashback moments but loved every second of it.

With a new set of dangerous issues coming into play this latest book takes a fresh turn that will only help carry the saga along as a whole. You add in some hysterical commercial shoots, vivid countryside detail, well written characters, smexy men, entertaining plot-line and laugh out loud moments and you have yourself another solid hit from Sparks. I love this series and will happily continue on 'till the end that I hope doesn't come too soon.

My one and only little tiny downside is almost no mention of my lovely man-candy-Scottish-beef-cutlet-chiseled-warrior Dougal. [It's a word, yet again I looked it up!] *sighs and makes dreamy eyes* He's been a back burner for too long and I'm carrying the Dougal torch loud and proud people!

Eat Prey Love....here kitty kitty

Eat Prey Love by author Kerrely Sparks is the latest edition in her Love at Stake series. I am completely addicted to this wonderful author. This series is one of my favs! Hot vampy scotts in kilts? Sexy were-shifters? Yum yum. A girl could die happy after reading this series. lol

The latest book revolves around were-panther Carlos Panterra, a shifter who's breed is on the verge of extinction. His goal is try and locate more if his kind across the globe and find a mate to breed with. (K can I sign up for that) The last thing Carlos needs is a complication, so of course thats what he gets! Caitlyn Whelan is that complication. She's a young, sexy blonde who knows absolutely nothing about weres and vamps who finds herself thrust into their world. Sexy as it may be, finding yourself amongst the supernatural is quite a shock. I really took to Caitlyn. She's spunky, fun and has a big heart.

Can Carlos fight his attraction for the good of his race? Or will he fall for the girl and damn the people depending on him? Gotta read it to find out. ;)

Adventure, sticky situations, and witty, humorous dialog fill the pages of this exciting story. Plus, enough steamy romance to fulfill this reader's wildest fantasies. (hey, a girl can hope to meet men like these someday. lol) Kerrelyn is a master of the art of romance and I LOVE this series to pieces.

To date my fav story is still Ian and Toni. But Angus and Emma come a close second. ;)

Connors book is up next folks, March 2011 so make sure to catch up if you are behind in the series.
