Sheep Talk: The Walking Dead season 6 (TV series), mid-season

The Walking Dead is an American horror drama television series developed by Frank Darabont, based on the comic book series of the same name by Robert Kirkman, Tony Moore, and Charlie Adlard. Andrew Lincoln plays the show's lead character, sheriff's deputy Rick Grimes, who awakens from a months-long coma to confront a post-apocalyptic world overrun by zombies.Grimes reunites with his family and becomes the leader of a group he forms with other survivors. Together they struggle to survive in and adapt to a world filled with zombies and some humans who are even more dangerous than the zombies themselves.

Katie's Rambling Shambling Thoughts:

Season 6 of The Walking Dead has thus far been a roller coaster ride, if said roller coaster went off the rails on an Ozzy Crazy Train and ended up someplace close to the hells of middle-earth. With zombies, of course. Each season of The Dead has taken on a life (or unlife) all it's own. Season 6 is currently on the same gory dead path of guts and eye popping glory. Do I love it? You bet your back country crossbow booty I do! 

Rick and the gang are still in good ole Alexandra, but the dead buddies shambling about are looking to bust through the walls and feast on tasty flesh. It's awesome fun. As the group struggles to break down the soft the residents of Alexandra (as any good army should), you wonder if these peaceful folks are all going to make. Living behind a wall for so long has made most of them soft and jell-o like. Too much mushy-jiggle and not enough hack'em up skills.  

As we soon see, trouble is brewing not just outside the walls but behind too. Young Carl is not making many new friends, Morgan is desperately trying to save the human world. Yet failing as I can tell, and Maggie will soon have a baby bump! Thank the zombie gods that Glen did hide under a dumpster, but it's very unclear if he will actually make it back to the group. The tension builds!

So as the mid-season ended, we see the safety walls come crashing down. The group is scattered like rats and now, once again, they are facing incredible odds of survival. But this team is badass to the core, Daryl is bound to show up and save the day! If Daryl dies, we riot!

What keeps me coming back year after year; the human nature and friendships this show has created. It's authentic, brutal, humorous and touchingly raw at times. I've laughed, cried, screamed at the tv and made ninja chop-chop hands in the air. I'll raise my bloody turtle carcass and bite off it's head in their honor!

What did the world look like as it was transforming into the horrifying apocalypse depicted in "The Walking Dead"? This spin-off set in Los Angeles, following new characters as they face the beginning of the end of the world, will answer that question.

I’ll admit I didn’t have that high of expectations going into watching the new Walking Dead spin off (Fear the Walking Dead). I’ve only seen the first season of the Walking Dead and the only reason I even gave the new spin off a chance was because it’s supposed to start before the zombie epidemic which is my favorite part. My biggest grievance with TWD was that it didn’t show the start of the epidemic, just jumped right into the middle of it.

I’m glad that I didn’t just blow off Fear because it had me three minutes in. It starts off right away with gore in a junkie church with a hot shirtless guy running for his life. Fast forward and he’s in the hospital where everyone calls him crazy for saying he saw a girl eat his friend in the church. I spent the entire hour and a half on edge, the show really nails the suspense; it’s like at any moment another infected will pop up. There’s so much clear foreshadowing and it really is the ‘prologue’ to TWD.

The atmosphere is one of sheer terror and suspense as you wait for the outbreak to kick off in te busy downtown LA. Some of the lines are kind of cheesy and there’s definitely the cliché struggling lovers but the ever present fear of zombies makes up for that.

Viral videos of a people attacking EMT workers at the scene of a ‘fatal’ accident, bodies disappearing, rumors of a strange virus striking several different cities and states, missing people flyers everywhere… it can only mean one thing… it’s begun.

Oh and it’s not the flu keeping kids out of school…

KIRKMAN ANNOUNCES THE WALKING DEAD TENTH ANNIVERSARY PLANS! 

Image Expo 2013 in San Francisco, Image Comics partner and THE WALKING DEAD creator Robert Kirkman announced his plans for the tenth anniversary of his iconic, game-changing comic book series, taking place in October 2013.

That month, “All-Out War,” a new 12-issue story arc will launch with THE WALKING DEAD #115, with, in addition to the regular covers, ten connecting variant covers by series artist Charlie Adlard. Issues #115-126 will be released bi-weekly, starting on October 9.

"It's something that's been in the plans for years and years" Kirkman says. 

Also to be released that month is THE WALKING DEAD #1 in color for the first time ever. Award-winning colorist extraordinaire Dave Stewart will giving a new vividness to Tony Moore’s art in the classic first issue with art.

Fans of Tyreese will be happy to see the favorite character get his moment in October as well, with the release of THE WALKING DEAD TYREESE SPECIAL, which reprints his first appearance in THE WALKING DEAD #7 and his origin story that originally appeared in THE WALKING DEAD: FREE COMIC BOOK DAY SPECIAL.

And THE WALKING DEAD readers will be able to choose their side in “All-Out War” with T-shirts that announces their allegiance to Rick Grimes’ “Survivors,” Jesus’s “Hilltop,” Negan’s “Saviors,” or Ezekiel’s “Kingdom” factions.

Sheep Review: Walking Dead Magazine #1

Walking Dead- The Official Magazine Issue #1

This is the perfect compilation for any Walking Dead fan! I must say, the Walking Dead universe is expanding at the pace of a wild fire and this is one fire I hope doesn’t burn out. I found the magazine to be a fun reading experience and it contains just so much about all the different venues of the Walking Dead universe! It covers the show, the behind the scenes of the show, the books, the comics, the games (which by the way, super excited for The Walking Dead video game where we play as Daryl Dixon!), the action figures and collectibles, short stories, insider tid bits, interviews, notes to the editors, and great eye catching artwork of the zombies we’ve come to love.

I was pleased to see this wasn’t a quick read through kind of magazine, where you basically are just looking at images. You can tell the creators and writers really put time and effort into giving the fans a hearty reading…along with some great images and visuals along the way to keep the attention.

 In this issue there’s in depth interviews with the awesome Michonne, actress Danai Gurira (who doesn’t love Michonne and her trusty katana!?), the creator Mr. Robert Kirkman (um, shall I just bow before you?? Would that be ok?), my nerd crush Chris Hardwick (host of The Talking Dead), Showrunner Glen Mazzara, and the wonderful artist Charlie Adlard who we’ve all come to appreciate his zombies in the comics (along with other comics).

This magazine really offers a little of everything and I’d recommend it for any Walking Dead fan out there, it’s definitely worth purchasing and I think after having read the first issue…I’m hooked and I’m sure you’ll be hooked as well!

One of the sections that was a fun addition that I think anyone would get a kick out of is “The Secret Diary of A Walker”, I think it’d be great to see this section expanded…if not, it’s still an entertaining bit to read from the walker’s perspective.

The next issue looks like it’ll contain a lot of great material and with the Walking Dead having premiered last week; the premier of this magazine, the release of Road to Woodbury, Walking Dead: Episode Four- Around Every Corner (video game), new Walking Dead toys and collectibles coming out to Toys r Us and such…well…it’s a great time to be a fan of The Walking Dead!

Sheep Comic Review: Walking Dead #102 part 6

The Walking Dead #102- Something to Fear part 6

Previously in #101 Something to Fear Part Five:

Following Glenn's death (yes...I said that right), Rick and the rest of his group bring the body to be buried at the Hilltop. While Maggie and Sophia stay behind to pursue a better life, Jesus joins Rick, hoping to learn more about Negan. But when they return to Alexandria, they discover that Andrea has successfully repelled a Savior attack on the town...and taken a prisoner.

First and Foremost I believe we need to take a moment of silence in remembrance of a dear friend we lost to a brutal act of violence. Glenn, our dear friend, has been there through thick and thin and was always there to be walker bait in a time of need. Glenn was selfless, great friend, would have surely made a great father to him and Maggie's child; he stepped up to care for Sophia and proved he's a loyal companion. With that said- rest in peace Glenn, for now you are free of the daily suffering and free of being walker bait. May your piece of heaven be zombie-free dear friend.

R.I.P. Glenn #1-#100

In book #102 we're starting to deal with the aftermath of Glenn being murdered by Negan, the rest of the community is just now finding out and we're seeing how folks are dealing with his death. Which we see the original group is having the hardest of times, especially Rick, since Rick feels like he has to protect everyone. Rick is not taking the death very well and Glenn's death leads them to the realization that they possibly cannot take on The Saviors and that they must fold and give in to the Savior's demands (which is they expect 50% of food/ammo/etc that the group has on a weekly kind of basis).

The community does not like the idea of just giving up, letting the hostage go, and giving into their demands but I think we've all come to know Rick well enough to know there's other intentions behind this. With Eugene possibly being able to make ammo and Jesus from Hilltop going all sleuth on the Saviors, there's clearly something cooking here that Rick is being secretive to the others about and I can't wait to see how it'll unfold.

Walking Dead Volume 100- Something to Fear Part Four

The group mourned the loss of Abraham. Glenn convinced Maggie to move to the Hilltop. Rick recruited a small team to inform the Hilltop community of Negan's attach, suspecting the timing would work in his favor. He was wrong.

First off congrats to Robert Kirkman and crew on making it to the big 100! That's a great milestone, hopefully many more to come! Second off- HOLY CRAP. That's seriously about all I can think right at this moment! haha Kirkman and crew did not let down for the big 100.

They've been building the tension with the Something To Fear story arc and in Part Four (#100) we are finally introduced to the newest bad guy in town, named Negan and is the leader of The Saviors. Negan is this foul mouthed, leather clad rockabilly demented a%*hole, who clearly is power tripping and evil. Sad thing for Rick's camp is that Negan's camp is way more twisted (so it appears....although if you've been keeping up with the books you know Rick and his camp- especially Rick, are pretty twisted mofos themselves) and has way more muscle than Rick and his camp have. Negan basically has a psychopathic army at his disposal.

Now without giving too much away for those who haven't read it yet...Rick and some of our beloved characters are in a van on their way to the Hilltop, when they get a midnight surprise while enroute. Also a character we've all grown to love on the show and in the book meets a terrible demise. That's all I'm going to say...that and I'll admit there was some kind of liquid substance that came out of my eyeball. Could have been my allergies or it could have been the brutal death, not entirely sure- all I know is I didn't see it coming and it's hella sad yo.

With that said the cover for Part 4 (out of 9 covers they created for the big 100, which I'm including and as you can see there are some pretty awesome covers!) is a hint as to what weapon does the dirty deed and that all this tension building paid off and #100 does not disappoint. While saddened, I'm excited to see the next story arc and see where it takes our fearless leader Rick and his beloved camp. I'm hoping our one armed bandit channels his inner Rambo and goes bat sh#! crazy on The Saviors.

Plot:

Rick made a deal with the members of The Hilltop to protect them from Negan's malicious community. This decision was inspired by a new sense of hope- that he and the survivors could finally begin to rebuild civilization and truly start living.

In book #97 we find our badass Rick in tow from The Hilltop with Carl, Glenn, Andrea, and Michone and while driving back to Rick's camp we are introduced to The Saviors (the new baddie Negan's crew). The Saviors come riding in on their bikes and swinging their weapons and threats around in Rick's face. Well Rick takes the opportunity to introduce some bullets to some heads and a katana to a throat, ya know, that's how Rick and crew roll these days! And I like it!! It's been slightly quiet in the books lately gore and zombie-wise, the last time we really got a gore treat was during the "No Way Out" story arc (which had some amazing cover art and illustrations). Although, the quietness is nothing bad folks- it's just the calm before the storm! You figure s*#t is about to hit the fan when you get to a story arc titled "Something to Fear" and judging by that grimacing cover art this won't end pretty.

What I like about Kirkman and crew is that the series has grown past just being a zombie series and is more about these people we've grown to know and either like or dislike and how they're handling end days and surviving. The experiences and feelings are different for each of them and it's interesting to see how they all interact and co-exist together. That said, I think this new story arc "Something to Fear" is going to be fun to see Rick and his camp take on Negan and his camp and if there's anything Kirkman has showed us, it's that no one is safe.
