Book Review: Searing Ecstasy (Guardians of the Realms #7) by Setta Jay + giveaway

Searing Ecstasy (Guardians of the Realms #7)
by Setta Jay
September 30th 2015
Drake, the powerful dragon and leader of the Guardians, has spent his long life protecting all inhabitants of the four Realms, but fails to save the one who matters most. His mate. In the month since finding her feral, he’s been slowly losing control of his beast and soon he fears the dragon will reign free unleashing it’s fury upon the Realms.

Delia has changed. No longer a carefree young woman, she is now a nightmare in the making. After her abduction and torture she unwillingly houses two beasts and more power than she can ever contain on her own. She can never be released. Nor can she have the male who gives her any semblance of sanity in her new world, the one she craves more than her own freedom.

With unknown enemies on the horizon and yet another God awakened will they lose themselves in the madness of an impossible mating? Or will they come together in searing ecstasy, bonding them in a way that sets them both free?

Warning: Sexually explicit content (beds actually get burned down, people) and alpha males and females with bad language.

You know that Mark Ronson song with Bruno Mars? The one that mentions it being so hot it makes a dragon wanna retire? Well I’ve been humming that song, particularly that part since I read Ecstasy Unbound by Setta Jay. If I were to describe the heat level using food I would say it was hotter than a jalapeno, it was a habanero chile.

Urian is one of twelve Guardians tasked with keeping the Earth Realm’s inhabitants in check. This includes hell beasts and immortals along with humans. Kind of a tough job for only twelve Guardians, no matter how bad ass they are. Aside from a job that never quits, Uri’s mind is also occupied by a Goddess who likes to watch him. It’s a game they’ve played for years.

Alexandra and her brothers have managed to avoid being cast out of the human realm but that is only because they have remained hidden. Her game with Uri comes to an end when her brother ends up needing her help. As soon as Uri and Alexandra are within touching distance of one another, all bets are off, clothes are flying and if a reader isn’t careful, eyebrows may be crispified. Just saying.

It’s not just the super sexy, burn-you-to-a-crisp chemistry between Uri and Alexandra that made Ecstasy Unbound such an addictive read though. It’s the time the author took to build such a complex and interesting world and the characters all have a purpose too. No one was standing around with a blank expression on their faces or waltzing around doing nothing important. Every character that was in the story had a reason for being in a scene. Of course that made for quite a bit of characters in the whole of the book which for a newbie like me was a bit confusing. I’m still not sure I have everyone straight but that just means I’ll have to dive into more books in the series soon so I can become better acquainted with them. And with hotter than hot immortals as the lead characters there will be zero complaints from me! Seriously, none. I’m going to just sit there and say “Take me, I’m yours!”

With a dangerous immortal like Uri as a main character, Alexandra had to be something unique in order to catch his attention but more importantly, she had to be a tough gal so that I wouldn’t get sick of her. As much as the Guardians are worth drooling over, they’re a scary bunch but Alex wasn’t easy to intimidate, actually, it wasn’t possible for them to frighten her. She marched her tiny self up to them and told them what was what and that was that. She never got lost in the shuffle of immortal creatures and I loved that about her! She may have had her shy moments but they never interfered with what had to be done.

The supporting cast of characters included Alex’s brothers as well as Uri’s fellow Guardians among others but to me they felt more like main characters which was great because Uri and Alex’s interactions with other characters told me more about them than whenever they interacted with each other. Mostly because whenever Uri and Alex were together, clothes didn’t stay on very long and there wasn’t much talking. *fans self* Those two could melt an iceberg with how hot they were for each other.

Ecstasy Unbound took me to a brand new world where immortals lived, loved, played and apparently plotted against one another. Is it a hot paranormal romance? Well, “hot” is too mild a word. Now “scorching” and “eyebrow crispifying” are much more accurate but it’s also a solidly written story with what I felt was a well constructed world with equally well constructed creatures inhabiting it.

Sheep Rating: 4 very hot sheep

She’s garnered attention and rave reviews in the paranormal romance world for writing smart, slightly innocent heroines and intense alpha males. She loves writing stories that incorporate a strong plot with a heavy dose of heat. Her influences include Judith McNaught who she feels writes a smart heroine to perfection, Gena Showalter, Maya Banks and Lora Leigh. You can often find her writing compared to JR Ward, but if you are a fan of the Black Dagger Brotherhood be warned that Setta Jay’s novels are more erotic in nature.

Ever since the Gods were sent to sleep for their sins against humanity, Vane, the son of Athena has been avoiding exile to the Immortal Realm. He, his dark, brooding twin and their sister have spent their lives hidden amongst humanity on Earth. According to their sister’s cryptic powers they needed to stay there for a purpose they’d yet to find. As the centuries ticked by he grew restless, recklessly tangling deeper with a very dangerous female.

As one of the Guardians of the Realms it was Brianne’s duty to ensure that humanity evolved without being subjugated by more powerful beings. For too long she had succumbed to the lure of a powerfully seductive Demi-God that could never truly be hers, one that she should have exiled long ago. It was a secret that could cost her, cost them all, but the danger only added to her need.

Their desire was breaking all the rules…

Warning: This story is intended for a mature audience and contains explicit sex and a dominant male behaving badly. Enjoy!

This fast novella read starts out hot! I don't know if there was much all of a story, but there sure is a big helping of sex! After the opening steamy pages, you get a little taste of the Guardian brothers and their mysterious sister. Something crazy has happened to them all, but it's always just outside the reach of explanation. You're not sure what happened, but the authors interesting writing makes you want to find out.

This story is really a naughty tease to get your appetite hungry for more! Overall you're reading an installment filled mainly with dirty sex, so hang on for the ride.
