Diego the cat (Space Cats) shares his Top 10 Cat Songs + excerpt (Middle grade, Sci-fi)

Top 10 Cat Songs

Hello, my name is Diego. Yes, I know. I am world famous. You probably read about me in Space Cats. Today, I would like to present to you my top 10 cat songs. I know what you’re thinking… there cannot possibly be that many songs about cats? Are all of these really about cats? Well, some humans seem to think they’re about them, but I tell you that they’re dead wrong.

10. "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" by The Tokens is a classic cat song. I mean, who hasn’t watched Lion King? It is probably one of the most iconic songs about a cat and a great one to start out my list with.

9. "The Lovecats" by The Cure is an interesting song about people who recognize that cats are better, and how it’s much better to love like cats than love like people. It’s good to be recognized. If you disagree, well, it’s because you’re just a human.

8. "Roar" by Katy Perry is a song about an amazing journey about a human who realizes they need to become a cat to be a stronger person because cats are way awesomer and stronger than humans.

7. "Soft Kitty" by Sheldon Cooper is an excellent song to encourage our youth of today. The innocence of kittens is so sweet, that they must hold onto that warmth for as long as possible before exploring the galaxy.

6. "The Siamese Cat Song" from Lady and the Tramp is a song about how crafty and intelligent cats are, and Siamese are some of the craftiest!

5. "Kirby" by Aesop Rock is an incredible song about how truly awesome cats are and how they help with mental health. Everyone should have a friend who is a cat.

4. "Smelly Cat" by Phoebe Buffay is a great song about cats needing the proper cat baths for hygiene.
3. Stray Cat Strut by Stray Cats is a fun song about the life of a bachelor cat and how their composure and style impresses all those around them.

2. "Ev’rybody Wants to Be a Cat" from The Aristocats is the brilliant song that speaks more truth than any other song. People have come to recognize that not being a cat is a shortcoming. The truth is that everybody wants to be a cat!

1. "Eye of the Tiger" by Survivor is hands down one of the most iconic songs ever. We cats are strong survivors who have the thrill to fight. As cats, we have done it all. We made life better for humans, and now we’re making the galaxy better. We are survivors with the Eyes of Tigers.

Honorable Mention: "Cat’s in the Cradle" by Harry Chapin. This one fell off the list because many people may not be directly related to cats. However, it is an important lesson for all of us cat fathers about the significance of spending time with our kittens.

Excerpt:
"I have a bad feeling about this," Ryan muttered.

"Don't be ridiculous," Jade replied, leading the way toward the temple. "We came here for the minerals, and we're going to find them."

As they approached the temple, they could see that it was ancient, with large stone columns and carvings covering the walls. They made their way inside, and the mineral finder began to beep rapidly.

"There it is," Jade said, pointing to a door at the end of the chamber. "That's where the scanner is leading us."

They cautiously approached the door, which was adorned with strange symbols and carvings. Jade hesitated for a moment, but then pushed the door open.

When the door creaked open, they saw a blinding light emanating from inside the chamber. They shielded their eyes and cautiously stepped inside, drawn toward the powerful energy source.
Jade and his team crept through the temple. The air grew colder, and they felt a sense of unease.

The mineral finder beeped louder as they approached the large chamber door. Ryan, the team's technician, examined the door and found that it was heavily secured.

They noticed strange markings etched on the walls. The markings resembled scratches, as if claws or sharp objects made them. Upon closer inspection, Jade realized the markings were actually a form of language, but one that he had never seen before.

Ryan, who had some expertise in ancient languages, inspected the markings. "This isn't any language that I recognize," he said, furrowing his brow in concentration. "It looks like some kind of primitive tool made it, like a claw or a rock."

Jasper, who had been scanning the temple with his handheld device, interrupted. "Guys, I'm getting some strange readings here," he said, pointing to his device. "It looks like there's some kind of energy emanating from the walls themselves."

Jade walked over to Jasper. "That's strange." He looked at the device. "There's definitely something here, but I can't quite make out what it is."

"It seems to radiate from behind this door." Jade touched a door at the end of the hallway with strange markings.

Jasper, the team's muscle, stepped forward and used his strength to force the door open. Inside the chamber, they found a glowing orb emitting a powerful energy. Jade approached the orb and scrutinized it, trying to identify its properties.

As he did so, the orb suddenly flared up with a blinding light, knocking the team off their feet.

When they regained their senses, they found the orb had disappeared and the chamber was now empty.

Jade, Ryan, and Jasper looked at each other, stunned by what had just happened. They realized they had stumbled upon something beyond their understanding and knew that they needed to report their findings to their superiors. Before they could head back to their shuttle, the darkness faded once again, and the center of the room gleamed with a small object. A crystal. It flickered slightly.

10 Tricks for Writing During the Holidays by Loren Rhoads + giveaway

10 Tricks for Writing During the Holidays
by Loren Rhoads

Sometimes, especially around the holidays, it’s hard to find time to do the creative work you want to do. I’ve used a bunch of tricks to carve out time to write. I hope these will inspire you.

1. Make a list. Whether it’s topics you want to explore or scenes that need to be written, it’s easier to begin writing when you have a prompt.

2. Set an alarm. Promise yourself that you will settle down to write as soon as the alarm goes off. Giving yourself the anticipation of writing time can be inspirational.

3. Set a timer. Anyone can write for 15 minutes. There’s something about the tiniest amount of time pressure that tricks your brain into thinking it’s on a deadline. Start a timer on your computer, phone, or in the kitchen. You might find yourself pounding out the words to beat the bell. If the words are really flowing, you can always add a second 15-minute sprint.

4. Make a date with a friend. Whether you sit down together in a cafe or meet online for a video chat, it really helps to know that someone else is working alongside you. The key is to find someone who will write, rather than chat.

5. Put your headphones on. Many writers make a playlist that they listen to only when they work on a particular project. Listening to the same music every time you write can train your brain to provide inspiration on command.

6. Write somewhere else. If you normally write at a desk, try moving to the sofa or the kitchen table or sitting in bed. The simple act of shifting to new surroundings can shake loose the words.

7. Try a different writing tool. Do you usually write on a laptop? Try writing by hand in a notebook or attach a keyboard to your phone. Some writers swear by word processing keyboards like AlphaSmart or FreeWrite, which only allow you to see a small amount of the text you’re working on. That way you're forced to move forward, rather than editing what you've already done.

8. Write first thing in the morning. It’s tempting to start the day by checking email or scrolling social media, but what might you come up with if you listened to your own thoughts first thing in the morning?

9. Write last thing at night. Take a notebook to bed and draft one more scene before you turn out the light. Do the words feel different as you’re settling in for the night? Maybe your subconscious can solve a writing problem for you in your dreams.

10. Chart your progress. Whether you put a check on the calendar, color in a box on a habit-tracking chart, or note your word count in your planner, record the days you write. It’s addictive to see your progress.

What other tricks have you found for getting the work done? Make your own list, so you'll have some tools to use next time you feel at a loss for words.

YA Fantasy Author Kale Lawrence: Top 10 Elements that Make an Irresistible Book + giveaway

Top 10 Elements that Make an Irresistible Book

What makes an irresistible book? While every reader has their preferences (as wildly different as their coffee orders), here are the top ten things I look for when choosing a new read.

10. Unique idea
I gravitate toward ideas that haven’t necessarily been done before. Or, perhaps they have but it’s a new twist (like retellings or gender-swapped versions). The more unique the idea, the more likely I am to snatch up that sucker and buy it.

9. Hard-hitting first chapter
Stories should grab you in the first few pages. This is their chance to show you why you should care about the narrative and set you up for what’s in store. There’s a reason why agents ask for the first chapters when querying; they want to see if you have what it takes to enchant readers from the get-go.

8. Vivid writing
This doesn’t necessarily mean describing furniture for pages on end. What I look for is concise writing that paints a picture in my mind, using action-oriented sentences and descriptors.

7. Chapters that end with “cliffhangers”
In my opinion, chapters should never just “end.” Instead, they should set you up for the next chapter by drawing your eyes straight to the next heading. I want to lose myself in the story and forget I’m reading. Chapter cliffhangers are a great way to keep the pace flowing.

6. True-to-the-story blurb
After the cover, my eyes go straight to the blurb to see if this is a story worth my while. If it’s intriguing, I’m sold! But nothing is more frustrating than reading a blurb and finding out once you start reading that you’re in for a much different ride.

5. Clever cover design
That old adage reminding us to not judge books by their covers meant well, it’s just not necessarily how our brains work. Decisions are made in split seconds in a retail setting (whether brick and mortar or online stores) so a gorgeous design needs to catch a potential reader’s eye to start the conversion process. It’s all in the psychology of it, and the industry knows the cover is the front door to a sale.

4. It makes me feel something
A story isn’t worth it to me unless it pulls at my heartstrings. Whether it’s sad, happy, frightening, or beautiful - I want to feel something while reading, not just sit around in Stagnant Emotion Land. I want to feel a character’s pain, dive into the depths of their world, and emerge a changed person.

3. Realistic dialogue
I’ve definitely read my fair share of not-so-realistic dialogue, but this is one of the key items for me to enjoy a book. If the characters sound robotic and forced, it’s probably not going to be a fun ride for me.

2. Intriguing characters
You can’t have a story without characters, but what really makes or breaks a book are the characters. If you can’t identify with any of the characters or empathize with their struggles, what makes you think you’ll want to invest in their fictional lives? What’s the point?

1. A plot with a payoff
The plot is the main element that makes a book irresistible to me. If it’s strong, that’s a win! If it’s twisty, even better. The plot is everything; it’s how the entire story is strung together. A weak plot makes for a forgettable read. A meaningful plot carves deep.

What makes an enticing read for you? Leave them in the comments! And while you’re at it, connect with me on Instagram, TikTok, and Twitter. I’d love to hear from you!

Some stars aren’t meant to be followed.

For seventeen years, Ezra Newport and his parents were habitual immigrants, traveling from their Ottoman Empire home across 20th century Europe. As the Newports migrate to Belfast, Ireland, Ezra wants nothing more to settle into a consistent life and lay the foundation of his architectural dreams. But after a strange, mechanical bounty hunter murders his mother and prompts the disappearance of his father, Ezra discovers that his parents had actually been on the run. Now, their enemies are targeting him, and they won’t stop until he is dead.

In a moment of desperation, Ezra’s fate collides with the Third Order of the Magi, a secret society dedicated to using their supernatural powers to protect their communities. With increasing violence around the world, the Magi are fairly certain they know who’s behind the attacks on Ezra and his family since the same group could also be threatening their own existence.

Both Ezra and the Magi’s survival hinges on knowledge only Ezra’s father has and the key to saving them could be buried within history itself. In a race across continents and time, both Ezra and the Magi must secure an ancient Babylonian artifact before hell is unleashed on the world. And, against all odds, Ezra must decide where his allegiances truly lie, despite what is written in the stars.

Deck the Halls with Books Holiday Extravaganza: Stolen in the Dark (Fae Bureau of Investigation) by Scarlett West + giveaway

Top Ten Christmas Drinks

Along with all the sparkling lights and festive decorations, one of the things I most look forward to each holiday season is the many delicious drinks that are served.
Let’s check out some alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, and find out which one is my favorite!

10. Apple Cider
I love the mix of sweet, tangy, and spicy flavors of a hot, apple cider. On a cold evening with sparkling Christmas lights, a toasty drink like this warms the body and soul.

9. Mulled Wine
This isn’t a drink I see commonly in the USA but one I enjoyed in Austria. They may drink it elsewhere, as well. The base is red wine, then spices like anise star or cinnamon are added, and topped off with orange slices.

It’s a hot beverage, and because of the spices and wine, it leaves you feeling warm and cozy. Mulled wine is often served at parties or outside at the lovely Christmas markets.

8. Hot Chocolate
What’s a list without this classic? Hot cocoa is a wonderful hit for all ages! At my house, we often drink Mexican hot chocolate with all the yummy spices, but the pure chocolate version topped with whipped cream is also delightful.

7. Hot Buttered Rum
This is the ultimate comfort food drink! Prepared with rum, spices, and of course butter, this drink reminds me of a paranormal romance alpha male.
Sexy, spicy, and served warm, it’s sure to knock your socks off with its smooth flavor.

6. Holiday Martini
There are so many versions of a holiday martini. What caught my eye were the lovely colors these beverages display. Red cranberry, creamy, snickerdoodle, pecan, the list goes on and on!

5. Eggnog
Smooth, creamy, and sweet, what’s a holiday without eggnog? With a mix of nutmeg and light texture, it’s a perfect dessert beverage. And if you like it spiked, don’t forget the brandy or cognac.

4. Raspberry Bubbly
So what if you need to make a toast? Check out this lovely drink made with grape juice, and frozen raspberries. And, if you want it alcoholic, that’s an easy twist to arrange. So simple, yet so pretty.

3. Booze Grinch Punch
Omg. You’ve got to look this one up to see the color alone! Whoever thought of mixing lime Kool-Aid, limeade, and juice, created an amazing holiday drink that looks good enough to make virgin or alcoholic. It just sounds so tasty, and it’s fun-looking! (See below.)

2. Mexican Christmas Punch
Another wonderful drink some people might not have access to, but worthy of mentioning. I know it from my Mexican family, though some other countries might drink it as well. It’s made with hibiscus flowers, tamarind, a variety of fruits, and spices plus sugar cane. Many people make it virgin, and some like to add alcohol. If you ever get a chance to try this tangy, sweet, and warming drink, I highly recommend it!

1. Salted Caramel Mocha or Peppermint Mocha.
You might be rolling your eyes right now, like how is this lady making coffee her number one choice? LOL! I have a great reason so let me explain. Every other drink in this post I might enjoy once, maybe twice, or maybe not at all during the year. But coffee on the other hand is a daily necessity and joy for me, and I ADORE holiday coffee drinks! My favorite holiday coffee drink is Salted Caramel Mocha, but I added Peppermint Mocha for other coffee fans.

Thanks for reading my holiday drinks post. If you liked any of them, search by name on Google, and they will pop right up. Delish had A LOT of party drink ideas! Happy Holidays and here’s the Grinch Punch Recipe.

Excerpt
I narrowed my eyes at Damien. “Does that mean we would have to work together?”

Damien smirked. “Yes.”

I groaned. As it was, Damien set my nerves on edge in so many different ways. I wasn’t sure I could stand to be close to him. Every f*cking day. And the way he touched me? His hands on my hair? My senses swam when I recalled that embrace.

“Though I don’t like the way I was thrust into this situation, I believe you now. Except for the bracelets. I don't know if you put them on my arms or if they’re even still there. But what can I do to help?”

He raised his eyebrows, and a flash of heat blazed in his eyes. “Thrust, huh? I like your choice of word.”

My cheeks burned, and I was sure I was turning all shades of red.

Then, as usual, his expression snapped back to ice. “But this is no game.”

I opened my arms wide. “I'm aware of that. Explain it to me. What would I have to do?”

Still holding the folder, he crossed his arms and jutted out his chin. “Give up your life and join the FBI.”

I frowned at him. “The Federal Bureau of Investigation? You work with them?”

“Correction. The Fae Bureau of Investigation.”

YA Author Jane McGarry: Top Ten YA Bad Boys/Girls I’d like to hang out with for an afternoon + giveaway

Top Ten YA Bad Boys/Girls I’d like to hang out with for an afternoon

1.
Lada from the And I Darken Series by Kiersten White. Lada is a female version of Vlad Dracul. She is aggressive almost to the point of being feral, but her love for her country and her passion in defending it adds a redeeming facet to her personality. I’d love a lesson in channeling her fighting skills and her confidence.

2.
Hadrian from The Riyria Revelations series by Michael J. Sullivan. Hadrian is a thief and a mercenary who spends his days carrying out the dirty work of nobles when the series begins. Naturally, he is thrust right smack in the middle of dark magic adventure. Hadrian is comfortable with his life choices and makes no apologies. I’d love to hear about some of his more daring escapades.

3.
Magnus from Falling Kingdoms Series by Morgan Rhodes. Magnus, the son of a brutal king, yearns to follow in his father’s footstep. He reminded me a lot of Kylo Ren from Star Wars—certain in his journey down the dark path. Much like Ren, a woman leads him to question everything. I’d enjoy getting to have an in depth conversation with someone, who despite a cruel streak, had a great sense of humor.

4.
Victor Krum from Harry Potter Series by JK Rowling. Was Victor a bad boy? Those Durmstrang boys sure seemed intense if nothing less. And really, he was a huge Wizarding World Quidditch star. I’d love to have a butterbeer and hear all about his athletic prowess and what life was like at another Wizarding School.

5.
Saf from Bitterblue by Kristin Cashore. Saf is another thief on my list, granted his kingdom was under the control of an evil king. In the end, he turns out to be more of a revolutionary than a bandit. I’d like to spend some time with him because honestly he was quite swoon-worthy and there are worse ways to spend an afternoon. And while we are at it…

6.
Katsa from Graceling also by Kristin Cashore. Katsa lives in a kingdom where some people have Graces—supernatural gifts. Katsa’s has a Grace for killing and her uncle, the king, basically uses her as a thug. She grapples with coming to come to terms with reconciling her Grace and her conscience. I’d love to have a deep talk with her about broken childhoods and living in a world where you always feel different.

7. Johanna Mason from The Hunger Games Series by Suzanne Collins. Admittedly, I read the books a while ago and may be confusing movie Johanna with book Johanna, but still, I love her whole “I’m just done with everyone” attitude. I think we could have a productive afternoon bi***fest with each other.

8. Aro from Twilight Series by Stephanie Meyer. You know, I never really got into the whole “conflicted vampire” vibe of most of the main characters. Aro, on the other hand, was anything but conflicted—he was all in. He’s also been alive for who knows how many centuries. I’d love to pick his brain about everything he’s experienced over his immortal life (assuming I could stay off the menu!).

9.
Timeus from Blood of Gods and Royals Series by Eleanor Herman. Tim is introduced as a scrawny, funny boy who must compete in a contest against mighty warriors. He uses his shrewdness and acrobatic skills to his advantage. From there, he turns dark, like wants to be inhabited by Smoke Magic kind of dark. I’d love to hear the story from his point of view and see what led him down such a bleak path.

10.
Athos from my Not Every Girl Series. I know, it’s a bit of a plug, but he was my favorite character to write. An outlaw with a knack for self-preservation, he is likeable despite his moral ambiguity. There are some hints at his backstory, but I would love to sit with him for an afternoon and hear all about his time before my story starts!

See any names you recognize on the list? Have any you’d like to add? I’d love to connect and hear all about it!

Finally reunited with the Resistors, Lina must find the strength to lead her people and fulfill the prophecy. Meanwhile, Dahlia prepares for the battle, which will ultimately decide the survival of her reign, while reflecting on the path that brought her and her foe to this moment of reckoning.

A fairy tale with an ending twist, A Prophecy of Wings is loosely based on Thumbelina by Hans Christian Andersen and examines the ideas of predestined fates and the subsequent, sometimes unforeseen, consequences.

Excerpt - Prologue:
The pains came more frequently now. Even with the help of Edwina, it was a struggle to run. In the cramped darkness of the tunnel, she tried to maintain her footing, an impossible task with the burgeoning weight of her belly. Time was of the essence. They must not be caught, but the spasms were nearly unbearable.

“I can't go on,” she gasped, a sharp pang taking her breath away.

“Just a little bit further, Your Highness,” the enchantress coaxed.

Every step down the seemingly endless passageway was sheer torment. Queen Ivy willed herself to continue. She was the last hope for her people, and she must not fail.

Edwina stopped so abruptly; the queen stumbled into her back. The enchantress pulled the weakened monarch through a narrow gap in the wall. They crossed the threshold of a doorway into the depths underneath the forest. A tangle of tree roots filled the cavern, their sinuous forms dwarfing the fairies. A robust scent infused the air with bark, stone, and earth.

Queen Ivy, a Volant used to the skies, reeled at the unfamiliar smells and fell to her knees.

The enchantress, more experienced with Groundling habitats, remained unaffected and surveyed the area. She assisted the queen in a nook hidden between the sides of two large tree roots, which soared overhead out of sight to meet the tree's trunk somewhere way above.

“Wait here,” she instructed, a moot directive to her incapacitated companion.

While Edwina disappeared the way they came, Ivy settled down her awkward frame. How had it come to this? The past few months had turned her world upside down. Having one's sister hunt you like prey was horrifying enough, but targeting her baby for death rocked her to her very core. Instinctively, her hand flew to her stomach, the muscles again tightening with the tremors of labor.

Her friend returned, hair disheveled, wings drooping, and announced, “As far as I can tell, we may have lost them in the maze of tunnels. I have used cloaking measures along the way and put a spell on the door to keep others out. But your sister's powers are strong. If she were to find us…”

“She will find us. It is only a matter of time,” the queen declared. Dahlia learned enough in dark magic to track even a covered trail.

“Well, it is time for this baby, so here must do.”
Queen Ivy sighed, resigned to the situation. When she discovered she was with child all those months ago, she had not envisioned giving birth in a dark hole underground. The enchantress spread a blanket on the earth for the queen to lie down. She checked the progress of the baby and nodded.

“It is time. You need to push.”

Above all, the baby must survive. Otherwise, the prophecy would remain unfulfilled, and the kingdom would never be restored. The monarch braced herself against one sturdy root; the surface felt surprisingly warm and smooth. Under the calm direction of her lifelong friend, she delivered the child.

Edwina laid the baby girl into her arms. Ivy admired the feathery blond hair and the round little nose. Tears welled in her eyes at the sheer perfection of the infant. The enchantress finished tending to the mother and turned her attention to the newborn. After a quick examination, she ripped a length of fabric off Ivy's skirt to wrap her. “You could not have asked for a healthier daughter. Now, what shall her name be?”

“Her name?” the queen pondered. "I’ve not thought of one. All I have thought of is her safety.”

Before Edwina responded, they heard it—the rattle of armor. Soldier’s footsteps approached, their faint clinking unmistakable. Both women froze in terror.

“She has found us,” Ivy whispered in dread, her arms tightening around the baby.

“Perhaps not. Perhaps it is King Theros on his way to tell us he defeated Dahlia.”

The footsteps grew louder.

“No,” the queen affirmed. “It is my sister. I feel her presence. You must take the baby to the other world and keep her safe until the time is right. Dahlia cannot follow you there.”

The soldier’s armor rang loudly in their ears. They came to a halt right outside the doorway.

“Come then,” the enchantress conceded, holding out a hand to help her friend rise.

“No. I must stay and try to defeat Dahlia. Take her.” She thrust the infant into Edwina’s arms. “Go now.”

Loud hammering filled the air with the enemy’s attempt to break the door down.

“But My Queen, she will show you no mercy. I will not leave you here to die.”

Queen Ivy leaned forward and placed her hands on her friend’s, which cradled the child. She slipped the crystal-bound amulet inside the swaddling. “Yes, Edwina, you must. I command it. Take her now and keep her safe.”

The enchantress desperately tried to think of another way. Axes and spears crashed upon the door, weakening her spell with every stroke. Sadly, she stepped back and conjured the words to transport her between the worlds, a power only she possessed in the entire kingdom.

The new mother watched the toss of the seeds, and Edwina’s frantically whispered spell. A cloud of dust encircled her friend and her baby. Too weak to even stand, she blinked through her tears. Just before the two vanished, she said, “Lina. I want her to be named Lina.”

Edwina nodded, the final wish heard, and with a poof, they were gone.

The door finally gave way, a multitude of soldiers pouring in, their armor dark as night. Queen Ivy turned to see her sister step through the broken threshold. Dahlia scrutinized the scene, the queen’s deflated belly and the cloud of dust on the ground. Her eyes narrowed in malice. The baby was beyond her reach—for now. She met Queen Ivy’s eyes and despised the look of triumph in them.

“Kill her,” Dahlia ordered.

The queen whispered one last anguished prayer for her daughter before an arrow pierced her heart.

UF Author Charlotte E. Pool: Meet my manuscript! Ten things to know about this beauty! + giveaway

Meet my manuscript! Ten things to know about this beauty!
1) urban fantasy thriller with elements of paranormal romance and a dash of science fiction.

2) this is a kissing book but it is not primarily a romance.

3) dark themes, blood, gore.

4) it is the first in a trilogy and ends on a cliffhanger. It does NOT stand alone. The second book is in the works.

5) it is written from multiple POVs. Think: Dan Brown. It’s meant to keep you guessing and on your toes. And it all comes together in the end.

6) the sci Fi element is reminiscent of the da Vinci code. Heavy and fascinating. Fiction woven into nonfiction. Lots of research went into this book. Lots of true stories/myths/legends based in real history.

7) if you like slow burn romance and banter this may not be for you. If you like sex and suspense and a little bit of fantasy and magical realism...not to mention some truly “love to hate” characters, then this book is what you’re looking for.

8) it is a vampire book, but not one like you’ve read before.

9) there is a LOT of backstory...duh these characters are hundreds of years old...but you’ll have to wait for the second book for most of it...it will get into WWII era Europe and some wicked betrayal.

10) so think...Vampire Diaries meets The Da Vinci Code meets historical fiction meets Ocean’s 11....yeah...kinda like that!

Enter Asher, a curious newcomer who disturbs the daily monotony of Landow, sparking whispers and rumors among the locals. A peculiar magnetism draws them together. As she spends more time with him, the list of unanswered questions about his past grows, and with it, Bexley’s unease.

But when one of Bexley’s classmates is found dead in a hotel, Bexley finally learns what Asher is doing in Landow. He isn’t human, and soon Bexley won’t be either.
