Book Review: Air Bound by Christine Feehan release day! + giveaway

Air Bound (Sisters of the Heart #3)
By: Christine Feehan
Paperback, 400 pages
Released: May 27th 2014 by Jove

The sisters of Sea Haven, bound by the heart and the magical power of the elements, return in this soul-stirring new novel from Christine Feehan, #1 New York Times bestselling author of Spirit Bound...

For as far back as she can remember, Airiana Ridell has always been aware of her extraordinary gift. She can intuit revealing and illuminating 'patterns' in the air around her-whether in a spray of mist, in billowing clouds, or in the dense swirls of an impenetrable fog. Her abilities led to her placement in a secret government training facility when she was a child, but everything changed after her mother was murdered.

Airiana fled the program, but she couldn't outrun the desperate members of a shadowy cabal who want her, who need her, who will kill to get her. Kidnapped and held aboard a ship bound for dangerous seas, her only chance for rescue is Maxim Prakenskii. He has his reasons for helping her, but he isn't about to reveal them to Airiana. Not yet. Not as the two are drawn together as moth to flame. Not when there are so many secrets yet untold that could shatter the quaint community of Sea Haven and all who reside there.

Air Bound by Christine Feehan is the third book in the Sisters of the Heart series. Airiana Ridell was placed into a government program as a child because of her extraordinary gifts, but the loss of her mother makes her leave it all behind. In an attempt to move on with her life, she moves to Sea Haven to live with her chosen family. However, some people are not so keen on letting her go. Now, kidnapped from her home, she finds her only hope of making it back comes in the form of Maxim Prakenskii. He is ruthlessly sexy and maybe even the man of her dreams.

Although Air Bound is the third in the series, it can definitely be read as a standalone. I have not read the other installments. However, I didn't feel as if I was missing anything. It was a nice change. Many of the series nowadays hold you captive, as you are slowly fed the story and always waiting for the next release. This series didn’t do that and sometimes it’s nice to read just one.

So, what can you expect from this book? Well, it was action packed, for sure. At times, it was a little too violent for my taste. Beware if that is something you don’t really enjoy because there is a lot of it. For those of you with a strong stomach, it will definitely keep you on your toes.

The story was involved and well thought out, which I always appreciate. Christine Feehan does a nice job of weaving a complicated tale without losing you. In addition, the romance was wonderful. Yes, I know I sound like some love struck fool, but I kind of felt like one. I actually can’t wait to read the other installments. Enjoy!!!

I write every day and have done so since I was old enough to pick up a pen. (I spent a lot of time getting in trouble at school for writing instead of doing the things I was supposed to do.) Once I create my characters, I try very hard to have them react to situations as they really would. Sometimes I have preconceived ideas of what I would like them to do, but they don't mind me, because it would be out of character for them. They take on a life of their own. Sometimes when I throw difficult situations at them in the hopes I'll get a certain reaction and they don't do what I want, I complain bitterly to my husband and he laughs at me. Still, it is important to me to have them be real, not perfect people, so they make mistakes we lesser mortals might make.

Book Review: Primani by Laurie Olerich

Primani (Primani #1)
By: Laurie Olerich

Paperback, 434 pages
Published September 7th 2013

Mica Thomas is Sean O'Cahan's worst nightmare. Part angel, all Primani, he's a ruthless protector with unusual talents. Jaded by the weakness of humans, he takes a hands-off approach to his charges. His job's to protect her. That's all. But Mica's got other ideas. He's strong, but she's stronger. Will his one moment of weakness destroy them both?

The Primani series is an exciting urban fantasy romance that follows the tribulations and transformation of one young woman and the tight group of elite warriors charged with her journey to immortality. At times dark, at times light, full of twists, and steamy passion, the Primani series provides a new spin on an old concept. There’s a fine line between good and evil and no one is immune to temptation.

Mica is a fighter. After she’s left for dead by a psychotic ex, she vows to never be a victim again. Focused only on living life to the fullest, she’s not interested in true love--until Sean comes along. Tall, dark, and mysterious, he’s the man in her dreams. Suddenly true love doesn’t look so bad after all.

Sean is one of the best there is. A ruthless, powerful Primani, he’s assigned to guard more than just her body. There are plans for her. Plans that’ll change everything she believes if she lives long enough to learn the truth. Guarding one human shouldn’t be this complicated, but Mica makes it anything but easy.

As the clock ticks, Mica is drawn deeper into the dangerous Primani world until there’s no way out and she doesn't want to leave.

Mica is a teenage girl whose mother has passed away and so she now lives with her father and stepmother. Well, sorts. She lives in an apartment; I assume is connected to her father’s land, maybe even behind the house. She has her circle of friends she hangs around with. And she was almost left for dead by a psychotic ex-boyfriend who with a friend still tries to make her life miserable and maybe this time insure she dies. This puzzles me as why he hasn’t been kept longer in prison, or the court hasn’t set that he keep away from her. There are a few times I puzzled over the logics of things like that, but still the novel is good. She is rescued after being attacked by a boy from school, Mica's life changes with three rescuers. Mysterious, muscular, and good-looking saviors appear to be going to the high school, but she feels they are not teenagers. One in particular, Sean, attracts her. Despite him fighting the attraction back, it is inevitable both come together romantically, to the dismay of the other Primani. Soon after that her destiny grows closer as she develops abilities only the Primani have. Abilities she shouldn’t have a human. Mica learns that demonic evil stalks the earth and only the Promani stand between it and humankind.

Except for the few glitches, the novel is good. The author mixes the romance with special ops and the paranormal, making a suspenseful romantic thriller, with a battle of good versus evil. If paranormal romances and urban fantasies with angels and demons are your thing, than you will enjoy this book. Just don’t be surprised if you end up staying up most of the night, wanting to finish it.

Guest Post: Editor Alex Brown (Southern Haunts: Devils in the Darkness)

Alex Brown, one of the editors for Southern Haunts 2, is here to tell us about the illustrated anthology Devils in the Darkness and reveal the subject of the next Southern Haunts book!

Following the award-nominated, bestselling anthology, Southern Haunts : Spirits that Walk Among Us edited by Alexander S. Brown and J.L. Milvihill, we now present Southern Haunts 2: Devils in the Darkness edited by Alexander S. Brown and Louise Myers. Devils in the Darkness was inspired by the same sources which inspired book 1: Spirits that Walk Among Us - being both southern and folklore in nature.

With book 1 we focused on spirits, but ghosts aren't the only entities that haunt the south and southwest. We have folklore regarding demons, witches, creatures, murderers, and more. Because of the diverse folklore throughout the south and southwest we have quite a bit that we can scare up for our readers.

As far as demons are concerned, I wanted Southern Haunts 2 to be about demons because it followed suit with the subject of being paranormal. Part 3 will be about witches, because the subject of the occult will follow well with some of the stories featured in volumes 1 and 2. In total, we plan for the Southern Haunts series to expand out to around 5 books due to the many legends we have to touch on.

With the authors featured in Devils in the Darkness we do have several returning names from Spirits that Walk Among Us. We also have a few never-before-published authors (fresh blood) and authors who I have respected for quite some time (names who didn't have the opportunity to submit to volume 1). Although the subject matter in volume 2 might be darker, this anthology is still suitable for both teenagers and adults. Also, what continues to make the Southern Haunts books shine, besides the frightening stories, is the amazing exterior art by Enggar Adirasa and the collection of interior art by Robert K (with one full page illustration for each story).
My favorite style of demon is the conniving kind, who likes to trick and use their wit to manipulate the human race. Volume 2 has quite a few villains who use such a wit with their actions. Another kind of demon that fascinates me is the one that is comedic in nature. My reason regards how a demon should not maintain a humorous quality, however, some do. I have to admit that I'm quite pleased that volume 2, like volume 1 has a diversity of comedy, drama, suspense, and horror.

Now, I invite you, Ghost Story Lover, to meet the Devils in the Darkness.

Southern Haunts volume 1 and 2 are available in both paperback and ebook download wherever books are sold. Southern Haunts authors can be found at conventions throughout the nation selling and signing copies of their work. Southern Haunts is published by Seventh Star Press. Be on the lookout for the upcoming Southern Haunts 3: Magic in the Moonlight due out in 2015!

About Southern Haunts: Devils in the Darkness:From the fiery abyss of the underworld comes 20 hellish tales from the south and southwest. Within these charred pages are stories that will introduce you to the many demons that stay hidden but are always nearby…

20 authors provide stories of possessed people, objects, houses, highways, and the devil’s favorite playground – the forest.

Dare to meet Deidless, a demon who is a buyer of souls. Discover what kind of demons men can summon. Read of battles between good and evil. Learn of ancient artifacts and stones that crave sacrifice. Finally, become acquainted with legions of evil.

Again, we invite you, sit back, dim the lights, and prepare yourself to meet the devils in the darkness.

Movie Review: Godzilla (2014)

Godzilla (2014)
123 min

Action | Adventure | Sci-Fi - 16 May 2014 (USA)
Director: Gareth Edwards
Writers: Max Borenstein (screenplay), Dave Callaham(story)
Stars: Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen, Bryan Cranston
Official site

The world's most famous monster is pitted against malevolent creatures who, bolstered by humanity's scientific arrogance, threaten our very existence.

What a lot of freaking fun! I went with my husband and 13 year old daughter and we all loved it. Especially my daughter. I think this is her first Godzilla experience. The movie is one big action scene and you will be cheering for the bestest monster ever.
People have complained that the the human part of the story was weak...the story is about Godzilla kicking monster ass! End of story <G>. It is exactly what the trailers show you. I am still all giddy.
