As Above, So Below Series by Loren Rhoads and Brian Thomas + giveaway

How did we come up with the title?

The working title of the original book was Hex Vex Sex. I had a long-sleeved black t-shirt that I'd bought on Haight Street with the slogan written down its sleeve. Brian thought the phrase summed up our story, from Lorelei's initial seduction of Aza, to Aza's possessing Lorelei with a mortal girl's ghost, then their eventual Happy For Now ending.

Along the way, the book's title changed to As Above, So Below, which we took from the old magical texts. In fact, the first novel was originally published under that title in 2013. When we got the rights back, we changed that novel's title to Lost Angels, which is the name of the bar where Lorelei works in Los Angeles.

The second book is called Angelus Rose. We talked about changing it a couple of times, but never came up with anything we liked better.

Unfortunately, Lorelei doesn’t realize that Azaziel has an agenda of his own. Taking her back to a burned-out church, he forces a mortal girl’s soul into the devil girl’s flesh. Then the succubus needs to find an exorcist who can cast the ghost out of her.

With all the supernatural warriors of Los Angeles looking on, neither the angel nor the succubus can imagine how love will derail their plans…

Book Trailer

Asmodeus, Prince of Los Angeles
excerpt from Lost Angels by Loren Rhoads & Brian Thomas
A section of the alley wall wavered. First the cinderblocks were solid, then oily blackness swallowed them. Out of this darkness stepped Asmodeus, trailed by two fiends in the form of large men, angular to the point of being misshapen.

Probing the refuse with his ebony walking stick, Asmodeus picked his way through the alley. Near the passage’s mouth, he halted. At his feet lay a crumple of shadow: Lorelei’s cast-off dress. The demon gestured down toward it.

Recognizing its master, the dress stirred, lifting a sleeve flirtatiously. When it brushed his hand, the cloth hurried upward into his grasp.

The demon rolled the fabric between his fingertips. Lycra had definitely been one of his engineering staff’s most useful inventions. He considered how tasty Lorelei had looked poured into this pinnacle of the art. What a shame the angel cast it away so maliciously.

Asmodeus raised the torn fabric to his face and breathed deep. Beneath the dark fragrance of Lorelei’s musk—wound amongst it—was the scent of the angel’s longing. He’d lain beside the succubus, kissed and caressed her, but his desire didn’t end there.

Unsmiling, the demon prince crushed the dress in his fist and let it dissolve.

If Romeo had wings and Juliet a barbed tail, could they find happiness in the City of Angels?

After their escape from the ashes of Lost Angels, the succubus Lorelei and the angel Azaziel want nothing more than to enjoy each other's company. Meanwhile, Aza is keeping secrets of his own that threaten the tenuous peace between Heaven and Hell.

Wicked Fire (The Angel Fire Book 2)by Marie Johnston
October 21, 2019
271 pages
His thoughts are less than angelic around her....

Jagger Hancock is a fearsome warrior for the angelic realm, slaying demons left and right on Earth and protecting the human race. But when a powerful senator is murdered, he’s reduced to acting as a bodyguard for the grieving daughter. Too bad she’s the same female who ruined his one and only chance at happiness.

Felicia Montclaire looks as angelic as the rest of her kind, but she hides her scars well. Yet the male who gave them to her is not just after her again, but seeking conquest over the entire realm too. While her life goes up in flames once more, the last thing she needs is a cranky bodyguard…even if he’s the only one who can keep her alive.

Jagger and Felicia might not survive each other, much less the constant attacks from their enemies. But when danger drives them back to the angelic realm, they’ll discover their past is waiting for them—and it’s far more dangerous than anything on Earth.

Wicked Fire is book 2 in the Angel Fire series, an exciting new paranormal romance series by an award-winning author.

Chapter One
“The team needs me.” Julian Hancock, or Jagger to everyone but his mother, managed not to sound pleading as he addressed his former team leader. Bryant Vale was the warrior director now and less interested in hearing his arguments. “With you off the team and no replacement yet, my place is here.”

Jagger should be in his typical uniform of black tactical pants and a long-sleeved black shirt specially designed to fit around his wings. It seemed sacrilegious to sit in his boss’s office wearing a blue T-shirt and a pair of black athletic shorts. But it was necessary for his latest assignment.

He couldn’t take another day shadowing Felicia fucking Montclaire. She was in some danger he only knew vague details about and she’d demanded him as her bodyguard. Demanded. Like the spoiled priss she was.

Spoiled and superficial and haughty…and strong and gorgeous and willowy. Her legs went for miles and haunted his dreams.

He clenched his jaw and steadied his gaze on his new director. Felicia Montclaire was only an obstacle to what he really wanted. Someday, he’d have his own team to lead and he couldn’t do that stuck among humans, babysitting the aimless daughter of a senator.

A flash of guilt flared. Felicia was still technically a senator’s daughter, but her father had been murdered a couple of months ago. She’d weathered the news well, but then he hadn’t expected her to get weepy or be derailed by her grief. He hadn’t expected her to show any feeling at all. And he’d been right.

His director, Bryant Vale, was as expressionless as a wall. A dark, glaring wall. “I understand your complications with Ms. Montclaire—”

“Forget our history,” Jagger gritted out.

He hated that anyone knew the story between him and the vexing angel he was protecting. Or rather, the lack of a story, the result of Ms. Montclaire not setting the record straight and letting everyone think he was a cheating asshole.

“The team needs me.” He said it as much for himself as to make a point. “If Felicia truly requires protection, then she should stay in the realm, in a designated home, with a designated guard.”

Director Vale’s demeanor had hardened as soon as Jagger had cut him off. Damn. Jagger had meant to use a lighter touch, not charge in like a bull at his first sight of red. “Sit down.”

Jagger took his time selecting the backless seat across from the obnoxiously large mahogany desk. He draped his wings over the edge but couldn’t force them to relax. “Director Vale—”

“Shut it.” You could take the warrior off the team, but you couldn’t soften his personality. Director Vale leaned across the desk, his eyes blazing. “I can’t believe you’re dense enough to think that Felicia is safer here. She can help identify her attacker and lead us to the people behind the conspiracy against this realm. The ones who could tell us just what this conspiracy entails. Have a think on it.”

Jagger refused to drop his gaze, and that was a harder challenge than most when Director Vale was pissed. The scars encompassing half the male’s face didn’t make him easy to look at on most days.

The director wasn’t finished. “Her family’s mansion was burned to the ground by angel fire while over half our team was inside. While my mate was inside. Director Richter—” His gaze cut away. Leo Richter was no longer the director. He’d lost both legs at the knee thanks to the fire and was still recovering. “Felicia can hide among the humans better than in our realm. Numen isn’t safe for her. And do I need to go into the main reason why you shouldn’t be tied to the investigation, why you’re too close to the case?”

Jagger’s teeth should’ve cracked under the pressure of his jaw. His father, James Hancock.

His good-for-nothing, cheating father, who’d risked their entire race by spilling the news of their existence to his human side piece. His father, who’d had several human side pieces, and probably a few angelic ones, while he’d had a committed mate.

His father, who’d had his wings taken, been declared a fallen, and tossed out of the realm forever.

His father, who was working with the creatures of Daemon to take over Numen, the realm where his own son resided. If he were a weaker male, he’d feel like his father had chosen the demons of Daemon not only over the angels of Numen, but over him too. Now the man would work with anyone or anything if it served his agenda. Archmasters, symasters, sylphs—the new “Jameson Haddock” didn’t seem to discriminate.

But then if Jagger had ever meant a damn thing to his father, then perhaps Jameson would still be an esteemed senator of Numen.

Not that his father’s multilayered betrayal affected him.

He kept his voice even. “Our team is two short. Dionna took over as leader, but we no longer have you, and with me tied up…” Literally, if Felicia had her way.

His team was everything to him. Having lost his father so young, and his mother… Well, Chanel Hancock wasn’t known for her nurturing nature. She’d turned twice as cold and ten times harder than marble after what she referred to as “your father’s unfortunate choices.”

“I understand.” Director Vale sat back. “But they aren’t functioning as a traditional warrior team, not until this is over. They—you—are under my personal direction. You’re the only ones I completely trust now.”

The director’s unwavering trust mollified him. For now. He’d grown up getting side-eyed by his peers, as if they wondered when he’d follow in his father’s footsteps. And then he’d weathered the Felicia storm, which had broken the trust of the one most dear to him. Without those experiences, Director Vale’s words wouldn’t have meant as much.

To still have Bryant Vale in his corner after they’d learned his own exiled father was the one behind the trouble in the realm was humbling.

And he needed to make sure he continued to earn it.
Even if he had to deal with the fallout of the maelstrom that Felicia Montclaire brought to his life.

Book Review: Priest of Skulls (Tarot Witches: The Raven Knights Saga Book 2) By: SM Reine

Priest of Skulls (Tarot Witches: The Raven Knights Saga Book 2)
by SM Reine
July 31, 2019
Pages: 187
Allene Whelan is trapped in the True Kingdom, held captive by their cruel leader Macsen. It’s her job as the newest Raven Knight to assassinate him by any means necessary. As a sylph whose greatest weapon is her body, that means seducing him…all the way to the grave.

But the closer Allene gets to Macsen, the more she realizes he’s being played by a crueler enemy: Morgause, the manipulative sidhe he regards as mother. And Macsen doesn’t seem interested in hurting Allene. The closer they grow, the less she wants to kill him.

Trapped by passion in a shadowy labyrinth of lies, Allene forces Macsen to make a choice. Does the Priest of Skulls want to rule through death, or through love?

Morgause and Macsen left a trap behind when they disappeared from the stage which allowed them to kidnap Allene and hold her hostage in the True Kingdom. Allene isn’t concerned about her situation because as a Raven Knight her job is to assassinate Macsen however she can. Since Allene is a sylph she can use her body to seduce Mascen and accomplish her goal but as she gets closer to him, she finds that he isn’t bad but is being controlled and manipulated by Morgause who is supposed to be his mother.

Reine’s imagination keeps amazing me as she is able to start and continue growing her amazing book series. The Raven Knights Saga is hot and sexy with a touch of intrigue and trouble. Allene is a nobody character who is transformed into a very powerful one who can use sex to her advantage whether she is trying to or not. The mystery character is still Keane, who I hope in the upcoming books is explored more in-depth. Magic, mystery, love, sex and betrayal are just a little bit of what you can expect from this fantastic series.

Book Review: Unchained Desire (Rapture Book 1) by R.C. Alvarez

Unchained Desire (Rapture Book 1)
by R.C. Alvarez

269 pages
Publisher: Entangled: Amara
Chained to a demon queen for hundreds of years, fallen angel Ramiel has given up on his brothers and sisters—and humanity. He has seven days away from hell to replenish his power and that’s all he cares about—right up until his meeting with the much too innocent Kyria. He fell for that act before and it landed him in hell, he won’t be making that mistake again.

To save her sick father, Kyria knows she must find Ramiel. He’s dark, brooding and everything Kyria should be scared of, but the haunted look in his eyes makes her think there’s more to him. The tattoos and chains don’t frighten her either, but the connection she has with him does. When strange creatures attack her, Ramiel steps in to protect her.

Ramiel believes he’s reluctantly helping Kyria, but what neither of them knows is that she may be the one to save them all...

Thinking how to start this review and all I can come up with is, what a damn fun debut story! There was so much to enjoy and all kinds of sexy characters that kept me hooked until the very end.

Seriously, a great way to kick off a new author and saga on such a strong note. Tons character building and nice foundation for a new world that this author does a fantastic job balancing. Never too much of one thing, yet giving up all that juicy romance we buy these books for.

Hot as Hades at times and filled with humor at others. This story never takes itself too seriously, yet looses nothing with an artful take on the genera. I'm a fan already, looking forward to the next stop on this PNR road.

Allene Whelan is scavenging through the ruins of post-apocalypse Oregon when she finds a strange tarot card, the Knave of Blades. Touching it awakens her magic—the power of the sylph, a rare and deadly Seelie sidhe who can defeat any other of her kind. Her pollen is intoxicating. Her magic is irresistible. And she’s suddenly at the center of the Autumn Court’s war against the rebellious True Kingdom.

She’s the only person who might be able to defeat Macsen, the prophesied Fenrir who will one day grow big enough to devour the world. But first she needs to make herself strong enough to face him, and that means collecting power as only a sylph can. Joining the Raven Knights means committing more than her life to defeating the True Kingdom. She’s committing her soul…and her body.

A new paranormal romance series from New York Times Bestselling Author SM Reine.

Allene has been scavenging through what’s left of Oregon after the apocalypse and when she finds herself upon an unexpected situation, she finds a unique tarot card, the Knave of Blades. When she touches the card, it awakens the magic she didn’t know she had inside of her and she becomes a deadly and rare seelie sidhe who is able to stop other seelie sidhe making her a formidable weapon.

If you haven’t read the tarot witch series do not let that detour you from this book because even though there are some characters in it from other Reine series, it doesn’t detract from the story and you won’t be lost at all. If you love hot and steamy sex scenes this is definitely for you! Seeing inside of Faerie is something that draws you into the imaginative world that this book offers.

Book Review: Cipher: A Demonica Underworld Novella by Larissa Ione

Cipher: A Demonica Underworld Novella
by Larissa Ione
April 9, 2019
From New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Larissa Ione comes a new story in her Demonica Underworld series…

It’s been seven months since Cipher, an Unfallen angel who straddled a razor thin line between good and evil, woke up in hell with a new set of wings, a wicked pair of fangs, and a handler who’s as beautiful as she is dangerous. As a laid-back cyber-specialist who once assisted guardian angels, he’d been in a prime position to earn back his halo. But now, as a True Fallen forced to use his talents for malevolence, he must fight not only his captors and his sexy handler, but the growing corruption inside him…before the friends searching for him become his enemies and he becomes his own worst nightmare.

Lyre is a fallen angel with a heart full of hate. When she’s assigned to ensure that Cipher carries out their boss’s orders, she sees an opportunity to take revenge on those who wronged her. All she has to do is appeal to Cipher’s burgeoning dark side. But the devastatingly handsome fellow True Fallen has other ideas — sexy ideas that threaten to derail all Lyre’s plans and put them in the path of an approaching hell storm.

Danger and desire explode, even as Cipher and Lyre unravel a sinister plot that will fracture the underworld and send shockwaves into Heaven itself…

**Every 1001 Dark Nights novella is a standalone story. For new readers, it’s an introduction to an author’s world. And for fans, it’s a bonus book in the author’s series. We hope you'll enjoy each one as much as we do.**

At 193 pages, I'm not sure if this a "stand alone novella" it certainly reads more like a full blown tale. As a huge fan of the Demonica Underworld series I would say my tastes are really damn high. My reading expectations are set well above any bar that exists. Ione has spoiled me. Period.

Saying that, this was another DAMN GOOD addition to her writing world. Be it a stand-alone or part of the ongoing series, you can categorize it any way you like. Cipher is action and heart-stopping moments served up only as this talented author can. Added with big moments of love, juicy lust and dark plot twists this PNR had me purring for more!

I love this one like all the rest, Demonica Underworld continues to take home the gold platinum!

Taste Test

"Have you ever even tasted alcohol?" he asked.

"Of course."

"Then you know one drink won't corrupt you." He advanced closer. Her eyes focused on his lips. A drink wouldn't corrupt her, but another kiss might.

"No, thank you," she whispered again. Why wasn't she feeling for the doorknob? Why wasn't she backing her way to safety? Because she couldn't seem to drag her eyes away from his lips, which moved toward hers as inexorably as a grass fire. He stopped a scant few inches away. She could feel the heat coming off his body.

"Shall I kiss you?" he asked.

For a moment, she was confused. Was he asking for consent? Or was he asking himself if kissing her would yield a reward worth the effort? His scent and his heat and those perfectly sculpted lips enticed her toward him. Say no, she ordered herself. This man is a danger. He's out to harm you, to destroy your clinic, to steal your soul.

"Yes," she said.

His lips touched hers and the world seemed to whirl around them. His hands cupped her jaw and his mouth massaged hers, encouraging her to open to him. Tantalizing touches on her lips from his tongue seconded the invitation. Although it felt as though every organ in her torso had liquefied, some shred of common sense kept her lips stubbornly closed. He kissed along her cheekbone, his mouth seeming to melt flesh from bone.

His hand moved behind her head, trapping it in place.

"Kiss me," he murmured against her ear. His warm, damp breath brought out gooseflesh all the way to her ankles. "Forget about your clinic for a moment and kiss me the way a woman kisses a man."

But he wasn't a man. He was a demon. With that, the spell was broken. She pushed him away and pointed at the Ducati. "Go."

He tried to draw her into his arms again. "That's not what you want."

He was right, but she wouldn't give him the satisfaction of admitting it. She pulled her cell phone from the pocket of her shorts. "Go or I call nine-one-one."

On the dark stretch of road that lay between Alexandria and beach, Belial crouched over the Ducati, taking it through its gears until it roared to maximum speed. The wind slipped inside the back of his t-shirt, and for a dizzying moment, it felt as though he were flying.

There was no question in his mind that he'd touched something in Dara's core, something that had been in abeyance since the death of her husband. At the thought of her beneath him, his loins burned. Sex with her would be a moment of rapture in an eternity of damnation.

Her rounded body was on his mind far more than it should be. He needed to bed her, so that he could slot her back into the category where she belonged—prey.

All my life, I've had plans.

Dying the day before beginning the first year of my surgical residency wasn't one of them.

Finding myself drafted in the eternal war between good and evil wasn't one of them, either.

And dealing with friends, enemies, and lovers I don't remember?

Definitely not in my plans.

Winged: The Complete Series Box Set
$.99

Being confused and a little disappointed about the lack of character development and storyline information in this read I did check around (after I was finished) and found that there are 10 other "Winged" series installments. I thought I was reading a first in a series! Surprise! No wonder I had so many questions about who, where and what the purpose was of all the archangels and "others". I was drawn in to the story but as I kept reading, I thought..."there must be more history somewhere". I must assume that the characters of Joanne, Gideon, Galbrial, Raphael and the others were developed in previous issues. And I thought that Lucinda (a newly deceased) was the main character when in reality she will probably be another addition to the "winged" alliance (or not depending on the outcome). That was the other thing that threw me off..it ended with a cliffhanger that must be resolved in the next issue (hence my thoughts about it being first in a series). I know I am probably not making a lot of sense but now you know how I felt while reading this as a stand-a-lone.

I thought the premise was an interesting take on the here-after. But I couldn't understand why there was little use of supernatural powers and that everyone in the "compound" (even that threw me) was able to get ill, hurt, depressed, married and bear children. Hmm. Sounds like an alternate universe theme. Don't get me wrong, that's an OK scenario but without the history of the winged, I felt a little lost in the telling. The idea of a new recruit having to go through a tough evaluation was clever and perhaps the take on "God" a little metro and would appeal to some additional audiences. The possession of a deceased by another deceased is a decidedly interesting twist.

I really enjoyed the penmanship and snarky, sometimes humorous dialogue. Apparently I am not alone since the previous 10 in the series have gotten rave reviews for the most part. I just started behind the 8 ball and will need to run the table before I can probably give an accurate assessment of this series. Was this book enough to keep you intrigued about the next installment? I would say a definite "heck yes!" if you have read the other issues and a "sure" if you haven't read the others and make it to the end with that big cliffhanger. I would like to find out what happens to Gabriel and the new "possessed" recruit Lucinda.

Book Review: CARNAL, The Beast Who Loved Me by Victoria Danann

CARNAL: The Beast Who Loved Me (EXILED Book 1)
By: Victoria Danann
February 14, 2016
251 pages
Publisher: dba 7th House, Imprint of Andromeda LLC

The angel, Kellareal, stopped the genocide of a hundred and forty three human/animal hybrids, who'd been bred as a research experiment and spent their entire lives imprisoned. Against orders, he spirited them away to a dimension and gave them the job of protecting humans whose own hybrid experiment had escaped and become their nightmare.

Rosie Storm thought she was getting a few weeks of tantrum-fueled asylum. The last thing she was expecting was someone like Carnal.

Talk about a good read! Carnal has just about everything you could ask for in a PNR. Sexy alpha men, (I mean duh. Look at the cover! rarr!), laugh out loud moments, evolving stories, action and creative writing. There's so much to enjoy in this beastly series.

From the first page to the last I was hooked. Every turn of events is evenly planned out and paced to keep you moving right along. A very creative cast of solid characters and good emotional depth are what kept me plugged in. It's not often I get a little teary eyed, since I'm pretty much a vampire and all, but this one got me really freakin close!

Sexy dirty passion for all of us who read romance for just that thing! I have no love life at this point, but when I read these books....it's all forgotten! Really recommending this one to those that love a well rounded and special PNR that's sure to keep you entertained.

Can't wait to see what Mrs. Danann cranks out next

New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of eleven romances. Victoria's Knights of Black Swan series won BEST PARANORMAL ROMANCE SERIES TWO YEARS IN A ROW. Reviewers Choice Awards, The Paranormal Romance Guild.

Her paranormal romances come with uniquely fresh perspectives on "imaginary" creatures, characters, and themes. She adds a dash of scifi, a flourish of fantasy, enough humor to make you laugh out loud, and enough steam to make you squirm in your chair. Her heroines are independent femmes with flaws and minds of their own whether they are aliens, witches, demonologists, psychics, past life therapists. Her heroes are hot and hunky, but they also have brains, character, and good manners. **Usually.
