Hexed, nice butt!

Hexed, by author Kevin Hearne, is the second novel in The Iron Druid series. To check out my review of the first novel, Hounded, please click here. This UF series has sucked me in and for the life of all the undead in the world it just wont NOT let me go. And ya know what? I love it! A good mix of humor, action and witty dialog make Hexed a great read. :)

Plot:
Atticus O’Sullivan, last of the Druids, doesn’t care much for witches. Still, he’s about to make nice with the local coven by signing a mutually beneficial nonaggression treaty—when suddenly the witch population in modern-day Tempe, Arizona, quadruples overnight. And the new girls are not just bad, they’re badasses with a dark history on the German side of World War II.
With a fallen angel feasting on local high school students, a horde of
Bacchants blowing in from Vegas with their special brand of deadly decadence, and a dangerously sexy Celtic goddess of fire vying for his attention, Atticus is having trouble scheduling the witch hunt. But aided by his magical sword, his neighbor’s rocket-propelled grenade launcher, and his vampire attorney, Atticus is ready to sweep the town and show the witchy women they picked the wrong Druid to hex.

Hexed picks up 3 weeks after Hounded leaves off. Atticus *dreamy sigh* comes under magical assault by a group of deranged German witches. After all the drama in Hounded you would really think the better choice would be for him to shake a leg and plant roots somewhere else. But Atticus has a mess to clean up in his adopted home town and no one is going to stop him from doing what needs to be done. With his new apprentice and a little help from some friends, and the Sisters of the Three Auroras, he sets out to vanquish the blood thirsty witches and carry on with his once peaceful life. Or so he hopes....

Some new appearances from Native American lore add a fun twist to the mix. As mentioned in Hounded, Thor is apparently a jerk and my Vampire dream boat Leif wants to recruit Atticus to help take down the Norse god. Some twists and turns take place, but by the end of the book there will be a BIG lead-in to the next story. I was pleased to have a bit more sexual activity going on this time around but the person who was doing it......um let's just say it was a wee bit violent. Kevin throws in a bunch of comic book and pop culture references throughout the series, which I loved. It's always cool to hear a 2000 year old Celtic dude talking about anime and LOTR. :)

Overall this book is very well written, laced with loads of different folk lore and laugh out loud moments. I personally like Hounded just a little bit more then Hexed BUT do NOT get me wrong, both books are extremely well done. They're both a fun read that I highly recommend. Book three, Hammered comes out July 5th so make sure to get caught up on this series before then!
