Book Review: Forgotten in Darkness (Scrimitar Magi #2)

Forgotten In Darkness (Scimitar Magi #2)
By: Zoe Forward

After an unjustified two-century stint in purgatory, Scimitar Magus Dakar returns to the human realm, renewing his eons-old curse. Either he or the woman he loves must murder the other within days of meeting in each new lifetime. To break the vicious cycle, he must kill her before she strikes her deathblow, something he's never done in the past.

Archaeology grad student Shay McGinnis suffers a near-death attack in pursuit of a piece of Scimitar Magi lore. But did the magnificent warrior who pinned her to the wall injure her or the daemon he fought? In her search for answers, she draws the attention of both an ancient evil sorcerer and the warrior Dakar. The attraction between her and Dakar is instant, and for Shay confusing. She wants to be with him, but intuition equates him with death. Not random death. Hers.

Will this be the lifetime they break the curse before they are murdered by an age-old enemy or worse kill each other yet again?

Shay is trying to prove that the scimitar exist and is writing her thesis on them. But while looking to prove her theory, she is attacked and lands in a coma for weeks.

Dakar is very old and has lived many lives. He's recently been in a purgatory type realm for many years until one of the gods frees him so he can't help his fellow scimitar magus, fight an evil foe.

This is the first book from this author that I've read but after reading this, it definitely won't be my last. Wow, the characters, places and actions scenes jump right off the pages because this author knows her stuff. She knows exactly how to write a story that drags you into it so easily that you are just there and don't want to leave. I wanted to see what was going to happen next, what was around the corner and what type of monster, person, or mythical creature would pop up next.

The book starts right off with an attack on our heroine. There were no pleasantries, letting us warm up to the story for a few pages, no we get swept right into the action right away and I'm not complaining one little bit. So much happened in the first few pages, the story doesn't slow down from page one to until the end.

They are destined to kill each other but when Dakar sees Shay the last thing on his mind is killing. They are destined to be together but can they escape the curse this time? Theirs is a love story so heartbreaking, so many centuries long that you are really hoping they get their happy ending.

If you like Egyptian mythology, daemons, magic, curses and a great love story, then this is a must read!

I give this book 5 sheep!

About the Author:

Zoe Forward writes action-adventure paranormal romances. She lives in North Carolina with her family and an assortment of pets. A graduate of Duke University, she majored in biological anthropology, but always had a special love of archaeology, especially anything Egyptian. Although a deep part of her wishes she had pursued a career that would have her at a dig site in a hot, sandy country, she's a small animal veterinarian, caring for everything from chinchillas to dogs...and even one hermit crab in there. When she's not being a vet, a mom, or sneaking out to a movie with her husband, she's at her laptop writing.

    1. I loved this original idea for a story. I don't think I've read one like it.
