10 Ways to Identify Vampires

Vampires are the sexiest, sneakiest and most deadly predators there are, and I’m here to help you ID the bastards! Hi, I’m T.L. Christianson, author of Crimson, Secrets and Lies of a Living Vampire. It’s about vampires, secret laboratories, quarrelsome vamp clans and best of all - romance. Here’s a list to help keep you safe against those that go bump in the night (and the day!)

1. Vampires call themselves Moroi.
They use that word almost exclusive, and only humans, the newest vampires, or most isolated Moroi will call themselves vampires.

2. Vampires are alive.
They breathe, have a pulse and eat. However, their pulse and body temperature are lower than that of a human. So, if your man (or woman) always seems cold to the touch, you might know why!

3. Vampires Breath, but not as often as humans.
Most vampires give off tell-tale signs that they’re not entirely human. The Moroi tend to sit still, not breath very often. Look for these subtle not so apparent signs.

4. Vampires lore is (mostly) just that - lore.
I hate to burst your bubble, but Moroi can eat garlic, they have a reflection and can go into a church. You don’t have to invite a vampire into your home, they can enter just like a regular ol’ human. Vampires don’t burn in sunlight, and they don’t sparkle. Although Moroi are light sensitive and don’t like direct sunlight, they won’t catch on fire. Don’t be fooled though, because there are some sun-loving vamps that even tan – Find these ones along sunny coastlines living off their sailboat.

5. Vampires aren’t all rich.
Sure, many have accumulated wealth and possessions, but vampires are as different as humans when it comes to taste, ambition, and lifestyle.

6. Vampires have superior memories and physical abilities.
Don’t be surprised to find Moroi in careers where this is a significant factor. For example, surgeons, scientists, and craftsmen. They don’t usually play professional sports, but it does happen occasionally. You know the receiver that never misses a pass or that cyclist that can keep going even when everyone else has dropped? They don’t dope because they don’t have to. Also, did your honey pick up a new language on your vacation in Greece? You know why… Vampires also make great lawyers and judges. Well, heck, they’re better at everything. They’re just superior at things.

7. Vampires aren’t magic.
The Moroi are scientifically explainable. When a human is changed, their DNA is altered on a massive scale. The new vampire genes modify a human to their peak physical and mental condition and beyond if they are an adult. If the human is younger than full maturity, they are frozen at whatever point in their development at the time of transition. So, not only is it unethical and impractical to change a human before they’ve reached maturity, but it’s also against Moroi law.

8. Vampires CAN mind control humans.
A Moroi can slow a human’s brainwaves so that they’re in a similar state to that of deep hypnosis. This can happen instantly and feels like you’ve zoned out for a moment. Like hypnosis, some individuals aren’t affected by this.

9. You’ve probably met or known a vampire.
The Moroi make up a little under 3% of the world population. There are about two-hundred million vampires living among us. This is about the number of people in Brazil and is double that of the population of Germany. Vampires don’t (usually) kill their victims, although it happens, it’s actually pretty rare.

10. Vampires aren’t worried about being discovered.
You can’t really expose them. They’ve created such folktales around the vampire myth that they’re not in any danger of being mistaken for that monster in the legends.
Hopefully, I’ve given you some useful details as to how to spot one of the Moroi in your day to day life. They’re all around us and among us. Happy Reading! I hope you’ve enjoyed this satire article! Secrets and Lies of a Living Vampire

Vampire Elizabeth was looking for a distraction when she took a job on the isolated estate of scientist Dr. Owen Bennett. Expecting him to be an eccentric old man, the Doctor, turns out to be a lot younger than expected and sparks fly. As Liz struggles with her past and a possible future with Owen, she realizes that things around the Bennett compound aren’t quite adding up.

Suspecting that Dr. Bennett might be a vampire, she begins to search for evidence. However, the more she learns, the more questions she has. To add to the mystery, the doctor’s wife has seemingly vanished, he’s tight-lipped about who they work for, and his research is kept under lock and key.

When the pieces finally come together, Elizabeth is faced with a secret that could have serious repercussions for all Moroi vampires. Could she be on the wrong side?

Now that she’s found the second life she's been searching for, can Elizabeth find her way through this web of secrets and lies or will they be the downfall of it all?

Excerpt
Biting his lip, Owen's mouth turned up at the corners. "I just… I feel like we understand each other…" he sighed as he shook his head, "do you…are you…"

Cupping my cheek, his thumb skimmed the corner of my mouth.

"I'm attracted to you," his voice came out husky as he leaned closer.

"I know you are," I whispered back before sliding my hands along the sides of his face, feeling the stubble beneath my fingers.

Time seemed to stop as we breathed in each other’s breath. His blood sang to me, and I resisted it’s draw, looking between his eyes and his lips. When he kissed me, he tasted like mint, and his spicy cologne filled my senses, making me want to wrap myself around him.
