Winters escaped one prison only to find himself trapped in the Trask Mansion with the last of his team of ghost thieves. Will their first score also be their last? The first arc ends here!

Jackson and his team have their ghost, but it doesn't look like they're going to be able to collect. The sun has gone down, which means the Trask Mansion has come alive with all of its ghosts, and they've already ripped apart the reality TV crew. The remaining members might be breathing, but if the ghosts don't kill them, Lake will.

It's one double-cross after another by the looks of it, and after just a few pages into this climactic issue my head was spinning. Much of the series had planted the idea that Edzia the medium would be the turncoat of the team, spending the whole time hiding her ulterior motives for joining the team and holding back all she knew about the ghosts inside the mansion. Well, that little thread got cut pretty quick in favor of Lake the gun-toting bodyguard being the one to betray them all to get the ghost out of the mansion and into her boss Schrecken's hands.

While there was plenty of action in this issue, I felt like the four previous issues had been a bit of a bait and switch. I suppose heist stories do that to some degree no matter what, but the payoff just wasn't as rewarding as I'd hoped when everything was settled. And the final revelation of the story lacked oomph. It was good, but the focus shift kind of took the wind out of the story's sails, I thought.

If you've been keeping up with Ghosted from the get-go, maybe you'll be more into it than me. All of the ingredients are there, that's for sure, but I think it could have used a little more time to set and become something truly memorable. It looks like it's setup to carry on with a new story arc in the future, so maybe it's on to bigger and better things for Jackson and his supernatural exploits. Fingers crossed.

Murder. Lies. Betrayal. Winters’ team of paranormal experts has only scratched the surface of the Trask Mansion’s horrors. After a ritual gone wrong, are they the next to be added to its gruesome history?- See more

It looks liker the hunters have become the huntees. Okay, that line was a little cheeseball, but so is this comic book series. Jackson and his motley crew need to catch a ghost and get it out of the famously haunted Trask Mansion, to add to the occult art collection of an eccentric billionaire. Well, they've found the ghosts. Only trouble is that the ghosts have plans of their own.

It was hard to say how this issue would play out, given Jackson was lynched by one ghost and Joe the techie ghost hunter was ambushed by another, plus the conniving medium has yet to make her play inside the mansion. Well, #4 brings a lot of things to bear finally.

Overall, the pacing of the story picked up considerably, with plenty of suspense and action throughout the issue, but a couple of jump scares in certain scenes felt hokey and included more for splash than substance. Hey, that's fine I guess, since this whole series is a popcorn thrillride to begin with, but the premise and the bevy of flawed characters offers so much more than what's been delivered thus far.

Things have picked up, but I'm going to wait for the fifth issue to see how well it delivers on the setup of what could be an amazing climax.

A HORROR/CRIME MASHUP THAT'S EQUAL PARTS OCEAN'S 11 AND THE SHINING. Jackson T. Winters is one of the greatest criminal masterminds to ever live...except he's rotting in jail after his last, doomed score. But when a filthy rich collector breaks him out, he's tasked with putting together an elite team of paranormal experts to do the impossible: Steal a ghost from a haunted house of horrors!

Credit Joshua Williamson and Goran Sudzuka with offering one of the most unique starts to a haunted house story: a bloody prison break. I read this issue cold, with no idea what it was about, initially thinking it might be some kind of gangster revenge tale only for it to quickly twist into a cross between Ocean's Eleven and The House on Haunted Hill.

As far as the plot goes, it takes a bit of a leap on the part of the reader, because it's just so out there. A plutocrat collector of the paranormal wants a ghost from a mansion scheduled to be demolished, so what's he do? Well, hires a beautiful assassin to bust a lowlife thief out of prison so the thief can recruit a motley crew of miscreants to track and capture said ghost. It's a little bit bonkers, but the intro and cliffhanger of this first issue make it really enticing, despite the motivations of certain characters not making a lick of sense.

The team of disparate characters is oddly charming in its way, with an over-the-hill stage magician, a couple of reality TV ghost hunters, and a medium to the stars as key players, there is bound to be some comic relief to go with all of the action and horror.

The book has attitude and style to spare, but it's going to take the second issue, I believe, to bring everything together and keep readers engaged. The mish-mash of genres is fun and has a lot of promise. I just hope it can deliver as the stakes are raised. I will say that the way this debut leaves off, with the team finally inside the mansion, has me eager to see what happens next.
