Emerald City Comic Con pics!

At the beginning of the year Katie and I (Sharon) went to ECCC. This was my first time in Seattle. What a wonderful city! We had a great time at the con too. I could only find these pics, but I know I have a ton more... Here is a quick photo tour of some of our weekend.

There are a lot of me in my cosplay. Kate preferred to stay behind the camera so... I am Lady Killer from the Dark Horse comic. I met all the Disney princesses and they said I could be one too!

Claire and Jamie where there! So much detail went into these cosplays.

It isn't a con without Batman. This is Batman of Seattle. He has a FB page I think. And this guy nailed Tony Stark.

 There was another Lady Killer and we finally met. We both went over to the Dark Hose booth and had pictures made.

 The Funko booth was very popular.

  We spent an evening at the waterfront. Ate seafood. This is our rickshaw driver Ravi. We called him whenever we wanted a ride...he was so much fun.

If there is a carousel you are obligated to take a pic in front of it.

I am missing over half of my pics...lots with Baaart...if I find them I'll share. If I can't then I will cry cause there were so many cool things.

I love dark humor in my comics. Housewife Josie Schuller is an assassin. The humor comes from her balancing her duties as the perfect wife and mother of twin girls with that of a brutal assassin. Often times her two worlds collide in a humorous manner...like having to use her housecleaning skills after dismembering someone in a bathroom. She is the queen of rolling with the punches...or clawed hammers to the head.

In volume 2, Josie and her family have moved and she is now a freelance assassin and Tupperware representative. But she is running into quite a few glitches along the way. Issue #1 shows how Josie is adapting to her new job through her inner monologue...like having to clean up her own messes, and a mother-in-law that knows her secret, but still managing to keep her upbeat, perky outlook on life (read: sociopath). She gives us the seven rules of going into business for yourself as she kills, then struggles to hide a body in high heels and pearls none the less! We don't know where the story is heading yet, but a mysterious man has shown up on the last page.

This is an ultra-violent comic, but the artwork is amazing. Jolle Jones snagged 3 2016 Eisner Award nominations (Best Limited Series, Best Penciller/Inker and Best Cover Artist).

Josie Schuller is kinda like June Cleaver ... Well, less June, more cleaver. We're introduced to the disarming beauty as she presents herself to a lonely old woman as an Avon rep, but we quickly see it's a ruse for her real occupation: hired assassin. It's a heckuva way to make a living when you have a husband, two rambunctious daughters, and a disapproving mother-in-law at home. Such is life in the '50s, I suppose.

I don't know what it is, but it seems like this winter I am seeing ads for all kinds of properties featuring femme fatales as secret assassins. It's like the red Volkswagon of fiction, or I'm just imagining things. In any case, Lady Killer offers the added stylized touch of setting itself in the bygone era of Father Knows Best and the nuclear family and all things wholesome as apple pie, and seems ready to tear it all part in a fashion more spectacular than even Mad Men could dare imagine.

The artwork complements the setting and tone very well, particularly with the characters having this blend of Rockwellian appeal and Hitchcockian menace. It's really kind of stunning to look at.

Whether the series has legs or net, I'm not quite sure yet, but it was a fun first issue and the teaser for #2 is an eye-catching one at that.
