THE DELINQUENTS #3 (of 4)

Cover by PAOLO RIVERA
$3.99 | T+ | 32 pgs.

Released: Oct 22nd

GET DELINQUENT!

As the road trip from hell enters its penultimate pit stop, our curious cuatro must make a choice that will FOREVER CHANGE THE WORLD…or at least change the course of HOBO HISTORY as we know it! With only a mysterious ass-map (yes, we said ass-map!) to guide them, Archer and Armstrong and Quantum and Woody are about out to discover the HOLE of America…uncover the secrets of their mysterious benefactor…and take down corporate America while they’re at it! It’s independent comics, we can do whatever we want, baby!

When we last saw our guys they had stumbled into Old MacDonald's Farm, but this one has a monkey with a machine gun. They are still trying to decipher the ass-map, and the bad guys, who want it, are making bio-engineered walking beef, also known as homicidal plantimals.  We even get treated to a musical montage of the guy's hobo life as they collect ass-map clues to find Big Rock Candy Mountain where the treasure is! We still don't know what the treasure is, but with only one more issue to go we will be finding out soon.

I know I sound like a broken record when it comes to this comic, but it is so much fun, everything from the images to the dialogue will make you snort (beverage of your choice) out your nose.

Well…that escalated quickly.

Quantum and Woody and Archer & Armstrong are riding the rails looking for the lost treasure of the Hobo King. Each armed with one half of a mysterious map, these two tandems have unwittingly been pitted against each other in a four-way free-for-all…but can either team get along long enough to achieve their mission? The world’s worst crossover joyride is about to enter uncharted territory!

Me with each new issue of The Delinquents

I heart Quantum & Woody comics. They are my kind of snarky "OMG did he just say that?" characters. The Delinquents is a four issue cross over with Valiant's other hit Archer & Armstrong, which I hadn't read before, but plan to from now on!

In issue #2 the two duos finally meet in their search for the ass map that will lead to the legendary hobo treasure. After some misunderstandings, drinking, an epic superhero/immortal/naive ninja assassin fight, and one flying goat, the guys decide to team up to to decode the ass map. There is no way to really describe the WTF-ery that goes on so I have included some pages. Unfortunately I don't have one with the goat wearing the Spell'n'Say he uses to communicate.

At last...both of Valiant's Harvey Award-nominated buddy duos are getting together to make one hell of a (terribly) mismatched superteam in THE DELINQUENTS #1 (of 4)! You've heard of comic events? Well, this one is a disaster! James Asmus, Fred Van Lente, and Kano have put together a rail-ridin', hobo-smashin', cross-country rat race for the next colossal VALIANT FIRST release..and it does not disappoint. (Well, maybe their parents...a little. For shame!)

Confrontation! Devastation! Inebriation! (And the lost secret of the hobos too!) Oh dear God no, you’d better get out of the way…because here come the Delinquents!

Quantum and Woody are the world’s worst superhero team. Archer & Armstrong are a mismatched pair of conspiracy-busting adventurers. When a mysterious force collides these ill-suited and irresponsible “heroes” for a cross-country race through the darkest corners of American mythology, all hell is bound to break loose. Can two busted pairs become four of a kind in time to defeat the Hobo King, save the day, and make it back home in time for happy hour? Let’s hope so…’cause these guys make a really, really bad team. (And you don’t even want to know about the goat.)

Every time I review a Quantum and Woody comic I gush about the humorous dialogue and the on point artwork. You know how some actors have great comedic timing? The writer and artist of Quantum and Woody have achieved that in graphic novel form.

The Delinquents is a cross-over story of Vailant's destructive bumbling idiot superheroes Quantum and Woody and their odd couple adventurers Armstrong and Archer. I have never read the Armstrong and Archer comics, but based on The Delinquents, I'm gonna have to start.

The Delinquents starts out giving us a taste of both duo's personalities and some background of the hobo "ass map" treasure hunt. Q&W have half the map and A&A have the other half and so starts the hilarity.
There are all kinds of fun in this issue: a goat that shoots lasers out its eyes, an ass map, the hobocalypse, blowing up of a princess (he was a bad guy) and carbon creatures. All I can say is check this out!

Sheep Comic Review: Quantum and Woody! #9

Quantum and Woody! #9

ALL-NEW ARC! START READING HERE! The world’s worst superhero team welcomes fan favorite artist Kano (Swamp Thing, Gotham Central) aboard to stop the latest scourge on the streets – ROBOTS!

Eric needs to know he can trust Woody — and that means Woody needs to get a job, open a bank account, sign up for a library card, and do all the things a responsible adult does. But when a new gang of rogue mad-scientist super-criminals launch a wave of ROBO-CRIME, will Woody stop them…or join them? Plus – the return of EDISON’S RADICAL ACQUISITIONS?!

This comic series is so wrong, but I can’t stop reading, even though I will probably go to hell for it. Issue #9 is a start of a new story arc. Woody, Eric, the clone Sixty-Nine (yeah, wrong, like I said) and Vincent Van Goat are at it again. This time Eric needs Woody to prove he can be responsible for just one day. Can Woody do it? Oh, hell no! Not when there are giant robots to drive that can blow stuff up.  And Woody could be falling into some old habits that might spell the end of his relationship with step-brother Eric once and for all.
Quantum and Woody delivers a one two punch with some of the snarkiest dialogue I’ve read paired with artwork details that would have me snorting coffee out my nose, if I drank it. The teenaged boy type humor just tickles me to death. If finding out the straight laced Eric (Quantum) wears a yellow thong so he doesn’t have panty lines while wearing his superhero outfit makes you laugh you need to read this series.
But the series isn’t all shits and giggles, there are touching flashbacks that give us a look at what younger Eric and Woody’s lives were like and how it shaped them into what they are today. There are also bad guys our reluctant superheroes must stop, that is once they stop fighting with each other.

Give issue #9 a try and see what you think.

Comic Review: Quantum and Woody! Issues #5-7

*giggle…snort…giggle* This comic series is just so over the top you can’t help but love it. Eric (Quantum) and Woody are now living together so their atoms don’t fall apart. Woody brought along his girlfriend, a clone of an evil villain, and a goat with special powers. Eric just wants to get back to his old life, but he gets tricked and blackmailed into helping an evil religious cowboy. Lucky for Eric, his brother Woody takes a break from being the world’s biggest douchebag to help save the day.

If you like inappropriate humor, politically incorrect snarky dialogue mixed with crime fighting superhero action and goats, then give this one a look. The covers pretty much explain it all, but I included some panels.

As a totally questionable romance blossoms between Woody and his runaway science experiment girlfriend, Eric finds himself quickly rising through the ranks of his new employers at Magnum Security. Comic Review: Quantum and Woody! issues #1-4 from Valiant Comics + giveaway

Quantum and Woody!
Valiant comics

Comic Book City Con was a small event, but packed with high quality comic book goodness. While there, I met Alejandro Arbona (editor) and Hunter Gorinsen (Director of Marketing) from Valiant Comics. One look at their selection and I knew I'd found another great indie publisher. They carry lots of adventure/fantasy/action/horror and superhero comics. The one that caught my eye was Quantum and Woody! It's about a humorous superhero team (when they aren't beating the crap out of each other) who fight monsters while trying to not let all their atoms fly apart. They gave me issues 1-4 to review.

I love this series. The artwork alone makes me laugh and says so much about the character's personalities (check out the covers below). Add that with the snarky dialogue and you get a winning combination. The first 4 issues alternate between the present and past giving the reader Woody and Eric’s back story. The flashbacks are inserted seamlessly in the story and help give emotional depth to our two fearless (and fearful) heroes.

When we first meet Woody he is hiding from his bookie, who he owes a lot of money too, and having a one night stand. He is pretty much a douche. Eric is smart, disciplined and in the military. He is also wound so tight he is just hairs breath from going medieval on someone… and he does. The two brothers (Woody was a foster child in Eric’s family) meet for the first time in years at their dad’s funeral. After beating the crap out of each other (they do this a lot) they decide to work together and solve their dad’s murder. And there is an experiment gone wrong that gives them unstable superpowers, but there is one little draw back to it. They must be in close proximity of each other or all their protons will come apart and they will disappear.

This is a fast paced action story with a little drama and lots of crazy thrown in. You did see the goat on the cover of issue #1? I think just about anyone will enjoy this ride.

Go big or go home, folks! Quantum and Woody are coming!
