Wow. Bloodshot the character has been around a long time and there have been many revamped storylines. But Valiant Comics has taken it in a new direction with a Mature rating. This is Valiant's first Mature comic. Bloodshot has been a Teen rated comic up until now.

The Mature rating lets the writers and artists explore a new side of Bloodshot. And this first issue has blown me away. It is an emotional gut punch and a triumph for the writers and artists.

The first scene (four pages) is an amazing story setup. Warning, the comic addresses suicide and military PTSD in a brutal fashion. Bloodshot is basically immortal. The nanites in his blood rebuild him almost instantly. This allows the writers to explore character situations they might not otherwise be able to.

Bloodshot Unleased #1 runs in two timelines. A THEN and NOW. You get Bloodshot doing what he does best...killing the bad guy is true action bad-assery fans are used to. But it switches between that and his broken human side and the effects war and life events have had on him.

Truly a storytelling masterpiece from start to finish!

I'm a fan of Valiant Comic's Bloodshot series. It is action-packed with drama and humor. So I was excited to see the movie. Vin Diesel wouldn't have been my first pick as Ray Garrison but that kind of star power bought a big budget.

I watched it on-demand with my husband. He hasn't read the comics. It was entertaining. A basic CGI sci-fi action movie. Valiant Action Comics are well written and scream big-budget action movies. But Bloodshot had a generic feel. I saw it two weeks ago and I'm struggling to recall details. I know the ending was fun and exciting and I didn't regret watching it.

People either love or hate it...but it certainly isn't hate-worthy. If you enjoy some mindless action fun then check this one out. My husband and I agreed on the rating.

I do recommend checking out the comics. How you can not want to read something with a cover like this!

Review

I love me some Bloodshot! He's a sexy "nanite -fueled" beast, their words (okay, I added the sexy beast part, but you can't tell me it isn't implied) The closest comparison I can think of for Valiant's Bloodshot character is a combination of Marvel's Deadpool (healing abilities) and The Winter Soldier (lab-created assassin) both also sexy beasts. Any way...There are lots of jumping in places for the Bloodshot series and if you want a run down of the universe then check out the Valiant Universe Handbook 2016. You can get caught up on ALL the awesome from Valiant. Don't even get me started on Ninjak...who is getting a live action show that will feature Bloodshot!

I've popped in and out of this series when I can. What got my attention was the awesome cover of issue #18. Bloodshot vs Sharks?! Sign my nanite-loving a** up! Issue #17 tells what Bloodshot is doing on an island and why he's being watched by those in charge of the Bloodshot program. At the end he meets up with other Bloodshots from different eras! Even a Bloodshot dog! I can't wait to find out his story. In issue #18 they are trying to get off the island on a raft and the typical male bonding goes on while they tell their stories, except the dog, who can't talk as far as I know. And of course there are sharks. And they aren't the apex predator in the Bloodshot world.

The comics are violent and mixed with some great snarky humor from our anti-hero. I love the art styles of all of Valiant's comics. In the case of Bloodshot there are rich saturated dark colors with heavy shading which fits the tone of the story.

I love me some Bloodshot!

One of my favorite action/adventure buddy comics is Valiant's Quantum and Woody (Q&W). But they have another action/adventure buddy comic called Archer & Armstrong (A&A). I wasn't too familiar with A&A until Valiant did a hilarious crossover between Q&W and A&A, The Delinquents (review here) it involved a hobocalypse and assmaps. I was immediately smitten with the unlikely pair.

The Adventures of Archer & Armstrong issue #1 is a great chance to jump into the series. It is over the top silly, but the writing is witty. When you pair up a sheltered and naive, mad skills, ninja do-gooder with a 7000 year old drunken immortal, there are bound to be awkward moments. The two, while on different ends of the moral scale, work well together and managed to teach each other a thing or two while kicking supernatural butt.

Armstrong owes someone a debt and has to dive into his "bigger on the inside" bag to find something. Unfortunately he leaves the bag open and all sorts of crazy can now escape. Archer heads in to find Armstrong...and we find out what lurks in Armstrong's bag. We also get to meet Archer's sister, who is part of the Sisters of Perpetual Darkness. Can Archer trust her? What do you think?

I don't hide my Valiant Comic hard-on. I'm relatively new to the Valiant Universe so I was thrilled when they came out with the Valiant Next series. Character mash-ups galore! The Valiant is a four issue series that brings together some of Valiant's most popular characters. Namely the Geomancer, Bloodshot (swoon), the Eternal Warrior and new-comber Ninjak (swoon).

Issue #4 is the conclusion of war between the Eternal Darkness and our heroes. Wow, didn't see that ending coming. Can't give any details or it will be spoiled. There is suspense and even a little humor. I loved when Mr. Flay (Eternal Darkness) refers to Bloodshot as Kay's little action figure. The humor is Valiant just released a Bloodshot MiniMate toy <G>. Below is a picture of my own personal one :) Seriously, how could I not?!

As always with Valiant comics the artwork is superb and bold complimenting the writing seamlessly. I was caught up in the suspense and taken by surprise at the ending. This series is also the jumping off point for Bloodshot Reborn, which you know I'll be checking out.

If you are one of those readers who don't like to wait for the next issue, now is the time to grab all four!

Definite Dr. Who vibes going on here with a little bit of Sliders thrown in. Ivar can travel through wormholes, but he can't make them, he has to be exactly where the portal opens and jump in before it closes again. He has jumped into 2015 to save Dr. Neela Sethi. Her life is in danger because she will discover time travel. Then they are on an exciting mad dash through time arcs.

The story moves quickly and covers a lot of information but still delivers humor and action. Dr. Sethi is by far one of my favorite female characters in the Valiant universe. The ending? Whoa, didn't see that coming! Bloodshot makes a quick one panel appearance too.

My only complaint is the inconsistency in the drawing of Ivar. He looks downright sexy and detailed in some panels and then a warped featureless dude in another. Keep my man candy pretty! <G> 

I'm convinced to give this series a try. Check out when Ivar and Dr. Sethi first meet below...

Issue #2 in the universe shattering The Valiant [Valiant Next] brings in two more Valiant characters: Ninjak and Bloodshot. I haven't read either of these series, but they are on my must read list now because they are both sexy bad ass action heroes. Check out how Ninjak dispatches the two guards...

The Geomancer, Kay, is running for her life from The Immortal Enemy and guess who comes to the rescue? Bloodshot! I like the way the creators handled the artwork differently for Kay's flashbacks of a book her father read to her when she was young. Seems The Immortal Enemy knows your greatest fear and can become it.

This is a perfect series to pick up for an introduction to some of the more popular Valiant Comic series. If you have never been in a comic book store or know where one is, don't worry. You can get digital comics now and read them on your tablet. Plus the digital versions are cheaper.

REVIEW

I love Valiant comics. I just discovered them about a year ago when I read Quantum and Woody (reviews) which I have gushed about many times already. I have never been a fan of the traditional superhero comics (you know the arachnid guy, that super guy and the bat guy). But Valiant’s superhero action comics are becoming favorites. But where to start? Lucky for me, and you, Valiant is having the ultimate cross over event to introduce new readers to their biggest heroes such as, Eternal Warrior, Bloodshot, and Geomancer as well as all their villains. This is the perfect time to learn all about the Valiant universe!

This is pretty epic as far a comic books go. I got a look at issue #1. We are introduced to the Eternal Warrior and learn about his past failures, the newest Geomancer, and Bloodshot. You get a peek at the cheeky Armstrong too. There is plenty of violence and bloodshed to make any horror, action, adventure lover happy. I look forward to meeting all the characters from the Valiant universe.

Personal aside: I am a fan of urban fantasy with a dose of romance (don’t worry, there is no romance in this comic). I appreciate a sexy ass warrior. Bloodshot and Eternal Warrior are nice to look at. The Geomancer is a female, and if I was a guy I would find her pretty hot. So even if you aren’t into superheroes you might be into these ;)

It’s independent comics, we can do whatever we want, baby!

When we last saw our guys they had stumbled into Old MacDonald's Farm, but this one has a monkey with a machine gun. They are still trying to decipher the ass-map, and the bad guys, who want it, are making bio-engineered walking beef, also known as homicidal plantimals.  We even get treated to a musical montage of the guy's hobo life as they collect ass-map clues to find Big Rock Candy Mountain where the treasure is! We still don't know what the treasure is, but with only one more issue to go we will be finding out soon.

I know I sound like a broken record when it comes to this comic, but it is so much fun, everything from the images to the dialogue will make you snort (beverage of your choice) out your nose.

Well…that escalated quickly.

Quantum and Woody and Archer & Armstrong are riding the rails looking for the lost treasure of the Hobo King. Each armed with one half of a mysterious map, these two tandems have unwittingly been pitted against each other in a four-way free-for-all…but can either team get along long enough to achieve their mission? The world’s worst crossover joyride is about to enter uncharted territory!

I heart Quantum & Woody comics. They are my kind of snarky "OMG did he just say that?" characters. The Delinquents is a four issue cross over with Valiant's other hit Archer & Armstrong, which I hadn't read before, but plan to from now on!

In issue #2 the two duos finally meet in their search for the ass map that will lead to the legendary hobo treasure. After some misunderstandings, drinking, an epic superhero/immortal/naive ninja assassin fight, and one flying goat, the guys decide to team up to to decode the ass map. There is no way to really describe the WTF-ery that goes on so I have included some pages. Unfortunately I don't have one with the goat wearing the Spell'n'Say he uses to communicate.
