Seven Strange Facts About Tracy Cooper-Posey + excerpt

Here are six out there, but absolutely true things about me…and one lie. Which one is the lie?

1. I grew up without television or a movie theatre…or a library.
I grew up in a tiny wheatbelt town in Western Australia, that had five houses, a wheat silo and a school. The school had three rooms and no library. It was my years in Cadoux that formed my reading habit. I read to tatters every book my mother managed to mail order from the nearest city.

Bonus weird fact:
The year I left Cadoux, the town was wiped out by a massive, record-breaking earthquake. I’m pretty sure the two events are not related…

2, I was the first licensed female cinematograph operater in Western Australia.
Fast forward a few years. That grand title has a shorter name: A film operator. I was the first female in Western Australia to earn her license to run a movie in a cinema or drive-in.

In those days, some of the bio-boxes could only be accessed by going through the men’s washroom! They were so not set up for women to run a show. 😊

3. I have written 200+ books under three different pen names
I keep lists – I have to, because I can never remember them all.

I’ve been writing for a few years.

4. I met my future husband on the Internet when it was only two years old, and I moved to Canada to marry him.
I think we might be one of the first couples to meet online, it was that new.

Bonus weird fact: We have the same birthday, which is also the day we met, and our wedding anniversary.

5. I have bumped noses with a grey nurse shark

When I lived in Western Australia, I was a keen scuba diver. The Indian Ocean is warm, and clear, and made for scuba diving. But one day I pushed myself up from the sea floor, over the top of a short reef…and the grey nurse was coming over the top of the reef from the other side.

I don’t know who was the most startled. The shark flicked its tail and took off. So did I.

I think I walked on water, getting back to the beach….

6. I have survived a civil war
For nearly two years, my husband at that time worked with a mining company who operated a copper mine on Bougainville, in Papua New Guinea, just three degrees below the equator.

We had been there just over a year when a civil war broke out between political factions vying for control of the country. They assured us that Australians working the copper mine were perfectly safe.

Until they killed an Australian.

We were evacuated off the island in 48 hours. We spent that 48 hours grimly packing up our houses, as the company assured us they would get our possessions off the island. We didn’t believe them, of course.

Weird bonus fact:
Our possessions, in a sea container, were dropped onto the driveway of our house in Australia, six weeks later. The books smelled of the jungle for years, after that.

7. I have kissed a king
A real, honest-to-goodness king. And that’s all I’ll say about that.

-------------

So, which one is the lie?

If you guessed the last one, you’re sort of right. When I kissed him, he wasn’t a king at the time. He was a crown prince.

I have newspaper reports to prove it. 😉

I’m just an ordinary, middle-aged woman, and my life is falling apart….

When did I become such a cliché? I’m divorced, working a crappy job, living on next to nothing, and wondering how it all went so wrong.

Then it goes even more wrong. My grown daughter turns up after not speaking to me for two years, with stunning news of her own, and to cap it off, I’m summoned to a tiny, isolated hamlet in northern New York called Haigton Crossing, where my mother has lived for decades.

Haigton Crossing looks like a throwback to another time. For such a small place, it is stuffed full of secrets. The people there are different, including the town’s doctor, Benedict Marcus. And Haigton Crossing is way, way too small to host a murder….

This book is part of the paranormal women’s fiction series, Witchtown Crossing
1.0: Crossroads Magic …with more to come!

A Paranormal Women’s Fiction novel.

Praise for Crossroads Magic:

Love this new series. Once I started reading, I didn’t want to put it down.

Now I must wait for the next book which is pure torture.

Nice to read about a woman starting over after her daughter has grown.

As I adore everything Tracy writes...I am on cloud nine with the start of a new series.

It was wonderful to read a book about a woman who is closer to my age facing problems that I might actually have.

She explains the sights, sounds and smells in a way that makes you feel like you are there. I am eagerly awaiting the next book in this series!

What a delight! A heroine with some life experience, with real world problems.

A NEW Series From TRACY!!! EEEK!

Tracy's strong suit in her writing is her character development and knowing when a good twist and turn is needed to further captivate her audience.

An excellent beginning to what promises to be a most intriguing series, Crossroads Magic is a fascinating story in itself, though there are so many different directions this series could take.
Excerpt Chapter One
The only thing I was worried about as I headed back to my apartment building was the spot on the back of my hand where hot fat had left a burn the size of a nickel. Small, but mighty, the burn throbbed and ached, reminding me it was there. It was worse when the sun hit it, which it did frequently. It was one of those perfect, mild days in December, when you could actually see the sky over L.A. and it was blue.

Who am I kidding? The burn spot wasn’t the only thing I was worried about. If you were to ask me, I could rattle off a dozen major and minor problems, including the sumo-sized rat I suspect was trying to take up residence under my kitchen sink. But those were all chronic problems.

The burn on my hand was new and painful. I didn’t need new problems and was trying my best to ignore it until I could slather aloe vera gel on it. Marjorie, at the diner, had hacked off a leaf from the plant sitting in the pot outside the kitchen door when Deborah, the assistant manager, hadn’t been looking. Marj had wrapped the leaf in plastic. It was in my bag, along with the serving of pecan pie which Deborah had ordered the waitresses to throw out because it was too old. Three days old…there was nothing wrong with it, and it had more calories in it than the egg and toast I had lined up for dinner.

In this world that wasn’t the one I would voluntarily choose, today was turning out okay. Pecan pie, and Hobgoblin of History in my ears. I had been waiting weeks for book fifteen of M.K. Lint’s fantasy series. The library had doled it out to me yesterday and I was on chapter three. Harry the Hobgoblin was looking for the Fairy Eloise, this book; he’d lost her at the end of the last one, because he hadn’t closed the Doors of Eternal Flame in time and a demon had abducted her.

I like reading. I like it a lot.

My building was a white monstrosity that did nothing to enhance the L.A. skyline. The white had long ago turned to a stained, dull grey. Five years ago, a fire had broken out on the top floor and burned out a few apartments. The black smoke had billowed up out of the windows, staining the walls above them. The stains were still there and every time I saw them, I had to remind myself they were smoke stains, not black mould taking over the building. Black mould seemed more appropriate.

I turned off the audiobook, stashed my phone in my pocket and headed for the front door. I only used the front door when I came home from work. Usually, I used the side door, because it was closer to the bus stop.

There was another homeless person sitting on the front steps, leaning against the wrought iron bannister as if they couldn’t prop themselves up, their jean jacket pulled in tight. It wasn’t that cold, although this late in the afternoon, any warmth in the day was beginning to fade.
I swung around the homeless person’s worn boots, and up the steps, digging out my key.

“Mom?” The voice wavered.

I whirled, my heart rate climbing, to face the woman rising from the steps, a denial on my lips.

Blue, short, spiky hair. A nose ring. Black eye makeup that had run…or that she had been wearing for too many days. The black looked like bruises.

“Ghaliya?” I asked, for the high cheekbones, narrow chin and high forehead were hers. So were the blue eyes—even if they were blood shot. The next question was right there, behind my teeth. What the hell are you doing here?

Ghaliya pulled the jacket in around her once more. She’d lost weight since the last time I’d seen her…two years, two months and five days ago. And about thirty minutes.

“The super said you’d be home around now,” Ghaliya said. She bent and picked up a small black backpack that had been sitting under her knees and straightened.

Was it possible she’d got taller? She’d been an inch shorter than me. I didn’t think she was shorter than me anymore, and I am nearly always the tallest woman in the room.

I didn’t ask why she was here. That was obvious. She needed help.

I hefted my keys instead. “You’d better come in.”

Excerpt: High King of Britain (Once and Future Hearts #5) by Tracy Cooper-Posey + giveaway

High King of Britain (Once and Future Hearts #5)
by Tracy Cooper-Posey
May 30th 2019
Genres: Fantasy, Historical, Romance
All she wants is to fight for Arthur and Britain.

Lady Mair is a daughter of Corneus—the house of perfect warriors—and wants only to serve Arthur, War Duke of Britain, as her brothers Lucan and Bedivere do. Yet King Alun of Brocéliande wants to make her his queen, which would mean leaving Britain and Arthur’s court.

Alun’s younger brother and Mair’s best friend, Rawn, sees things as Mair does—nothing is more important than being the best warriors they can be.

Only Mair is entangled in the politics of the kings and leaders surrounding Arthur, just as his army prepares to fight two major battles in one summer, and people wonder when Arthur will become High King of Britain.

Plus, Rawn is hiding secrets of his own, that run counter to Mair’s desperate wish to be free to fight for Britain.

This novel is part of the ancient historical romance series, Once and Future Hearts, set in Britain during the time of King Arthur.

EXCERPT:

After washing and exchanging her bloody war gear for clean leather, Mair ducked under the tent flap and went in search of wine, her mind calm, her thoughts peaceful. The battle had been won. It was time to celebrate.

Somewhere nearby, there would be a campfire with like-minded warriors sitting around it, with wineskins and cups. A place would be made for her.

“Lady Mair.” The call came from her left.

Mair halted to look. The man who came toward her was black of hair, with a sharp jaw. He looked familiar. Mair took in his wide shoulders, and the strong wrists. He had washed and changed just as she had, so there were no house markings on his clothes or cloak to tell her who he was.

She glanced at his face once more as he stopped before her. He had thick dark brows over very blue eyes…and then she knew why he seemed familiar to him. “Arawn Uther,” she said. “You have joined Arthur’s army now?”

“My brother sent me, as he could not be spared himself,” Arawn Uther said. “Alun remains in Lesser Britain to hold the eastern borders with Hoel.” He reached inside his over tunic, underneath the cloak. “I have a letter for you, from Alun.”

The mention of a letter should have filled her with delight. Instead, Mair felt a twisting and tightening in her belly. “He did not send it by messenger?”

“Not this letter,” Arawn Uther held the sealed roll toward her.

The very slight emphasis made her hesitate as she reached for the roll. “Why this letter? You know what is in it, don’t you?”

Arawn Uther didn’t shift his stance. His expression did not change. Yet Mair could feel the wave of sadness that swept him. His blue eyes glittered. “My mother…Ilsa…” His throat worked.

Mair sighed. “Oh, Arawn… I’m so sorry.”

He nodded. Then he cleared his throat. “As you can imagine, my mother’s passing changes things.”

He did not finish the thought, but he did not need to. Mair could finish it all by herself. It changes things between you and Alun.

Alun had been pressing for a solid arrangement between them for years, via messengers and couriers, and letters like this one. Now, with his mother’s passing, he would reasonably expect to secure the next generation.

Mair looked at the roll hanging forgotten in Arawn’s hand. She didn’t want to read it. Once she read Alun’s entreaty that she join him in Brocéliande, she would be forced to make a decision.

Mair gripped Arawn’s arm. “It is not the time to tax our minds with such matters,” she said firmly. “We have clawed victory from this day. I was about to find some wine and I insist you come and drink it with me.”

“But…”

She shook her head. “No. You fought today as I did. You now get to enjoy the warrior’s rights. Drink and…perhaps we can find you a willing, warm woman, to take that care from your eyes.”

Arawn rolled his eyes. “Really, Lady Mair–”

“Mair,” she said firmly.

“Rawn,” he replied, just as firmly. He narrowed his eyes and stuffed the letter back inside his tunic. “Where is this wine you speak of?”

Tracey Cooper-Posey blog tour + giveaway

Tracey Cooper-Posey writes the Kiss Across Time series. Book #3 Kiss Across Chains recently released. The series is about three lovers: Brody (male vampire), Veris (male vampire) and Taylor (female human) and their time traveling adventures. Today Tracey has brought all three together to settle an issue they are having. Let's take a listen in on the proceedings...

The Case of the Missing Manuscript
A Character Court Chapter

The fire in the big fireplace flickered and popped comfortingly. The books in the library on the second floor were silent witness as Dr. Alexander Karim nudged the chairs into a more precise line and nodded his satisfaction. “There. Everyone take a seat,” he declared.

Veris scowled and crossed his arms, making his big muscle bunch. As usual, he wore the sleeveless cotton shirt and scuffed leather trousers he favored when he wasn’t required to wear a suit. The firelight made his blond hair look mildly red. “This is childish,” he muttered.

Brody threw himself into the chair at the end of the row. “You could halt it all now. Just confess and it all stops.”

Taylor stepped over to the middle chair and smooth down her silk skirt as she sat down gracefully and crossed her legs. She glanced at Alexander. “Alex, really. This is unnecessary.”

Alexander sat in the wing chair that faced the three chairs lined before him and leaned forward. “The three of you are making this necessary. So, let us begin. Each of you will speak in turn. No one else will speak while the other does. At the end, I will announce what the crime has been, if any, and what the consequence are to be, if any. Do you all agree to abide by my ruling?”

“Yes,” Brody said instantly and flatly.

Taylor glanced at him, then back at Alexander. “I suppose, yes,” she said. Then both of them looked at Veris, who still stood to one side of the remaining chair, his blue eyes dark with anger.

“Veris, please,” Taylor said softly.

Veris growled and threw himself into the chair. “This is a waste of time,” he observed.

“We wouldn’t be wasting time if you’d just own up to destroying my book,” Brody shot back.

Veris rolled his eyes. “I've just got back from a six week medical tour that was so mind-numbingly boring I wanted to go back in time and throttle Hippocrates before he opened his mouth. I could be tasting Taylor’s flesh right now, but because you've got this thing about your books, we’re sitting here instead.”

Brody scowled. “Northman.”

“Celt,” Veris growled.

“Shut up the both of you,” Alex said sharply, slapping his hand on the flat wooden arm of his chair.

Brody threw himself against the back of his chair with a hiss.

Veris grinned.

“Brody, you can begin,” Alexander said. “Try to keep yourself to observable facts and civilized language, hmm?”

Taylor smothered a soft laugh with her fingers.

Brody sat forward again. “Fine. I don’t have a big book collection. Not like these two hogs. But the books I do have are...important to me. I’ve collected them over the centuries and they all mean something. Especially the manuscript of Eadweard of Ashwick.”

“Because you knew him,” Alexander interposed.

“He met him in an English tavern one evening in the fifth century. He didn't even share a drink with the man!” Veris protested. “He didn't know who he was until the manuscript turned up ten years later. It’s not even completed! It’s a fragment!”

“You are not supposed to speak until it is your turn,” Alexander pointed out. He looked at Brody. “Is he correct?”

Brody scowled. “Of course I didn’t share a bloody drink with the man. I was a vampire by the time I returned from Constantinople. He didn’t finish the manuscript because the bloody Saxons killed him. They didn’t like what he was writing.”

“Why?” Alexander asked.

“Because he was writing about my father,” Brody said. He pulled his hair back and tossed it over his shoulder in a tired, defeated gesture. “The only fucking Saxon in England who could read and write and they killed him because they objected to his subject matter.”

Taylor reached over and squeezed Brody’s wrist in silent sympathy.

Brody sat up again. “So I tracked down the only remaining copy of his manuscripts and stole it. It took me years.” He turned in his chair to glare at Veris again. “And now it has gone again...and that bloody great lummox did something with it. He was screwing around with my stuff last week. I saw him there and didn’t think anything of it at the time, but now it’s missing.”

Alexander nodded. “Thank you. Taylor, now it is your turn. What have you to say about this matter?”

Taylor placed her hands together on her lap. “I refuse to answer on the grounds that any response I make may incriminate me.”

Brody’s eyes widened. “Taylor!” He sounded wounded.

She stared steadily ahead.

Alexander considered her for a long moment. “Very well. Veris?”

Veris growled deep in the back of his throat.

“Have you anything to say?” Alexander asked.

“How much time have we wasted at this?” Veris demanded. “What is the time?”

“You’re ducking the spotlight,” Brody accused him.

“It’s three p.m. almost exactly,” Alexander said. “But that’s quite beside the point—”

The chime for the front door sounded, cutting Alexander off.

“Finally!” Veris said and got to his feet.

So did Alexander and Taylor.

“Wait!” Brody cried. “We’re not done here! You’re not getting out of this just because someone is at the door. Let Mia answer it.”

Veris ignored him and left the room.

“The son of bitch,” Brody muttered, watching his lover leave.

Taylor and Alexander were silently rearranging the chairs. Together, they moved the small side table to sit between all four of the chairs. From the front of the house came the sound of the door closing.

A moment later Veris appeared, carrying a large crate in both arms. He dropped it on the table and smiled at Brody. “Happy birthday, you cranky old Celt. It’s two days early, but we couldn’t figure out a way to deliver this on the day and not give the game away.”

Taylor helped him to stand up.

Brody touched the crate diffidently. “Is it...?”

“Eadweard’s manuscript,” Veris confirmed. “Only, it’s the full and complete story of your father’s life. I wasn’t at a medical conference last week. I was in England when Eadweard was alive, too, Brody. So Taylor and I jumped back to England last week and stole one of the complete manuscripts before they were destroyed.” Veris shrugged. “You had a good idea. We just got there before you did. Time travel is useful, that way.”

Brody pressed both his hands reverently against the rough wood, staring down at the crate.

Alexander picked up the poker from beside the fireplace and held it out silently to Brody. “Muslims had better methods of preserving manuscripts back then than any of the western societies, so I gave them a few ideas on what they could do with it once they had it, in order to keep it whole and have it survive until they could give it to you today.”

Brody took the poker and fitted the tip under one of the cross-braces. “This whole thing about the missing manuscript...it was all a set up.” He ripped the wood away with a single shove of the poker. “I could have cheerfully killed you two.” He glanced at Taylor. “Pleading the Fifth!” It was a curse.

She moved around behind him and wrapped her arms around his waist and rested her face against the back of his shoulder. “Happy birthday.”

Brody looked down at the ancient handwritten and bound book carefully packed inside the crate, then leaned over and grabbed Veris’ shirt and pulled him close to kiss him soundly. He drew Taylor around his body and into his arms. “It is a happy birthday.”
