Anita Blake has the highest kill count of any vampire executioner in the country. She’s a U.S. Marshal who can raise zombies with the best of them. But ever since she and master vampire Jean-Claude went public with their engagement, all she is to anyone and everyone is Jean-Claude’s fiancée.

It’s wreaking havoc with her reputation as a hard ass—to some extent. Luckily, in professional circles, she’s still the go-to expert for zombie issues. And right now, the FBI is having one hell of a zombie issue.

Someone is producing zombie porn. Anita has seen her share of freaky undead fetishes, so this shouldn’t bother her. But the women being victimized aren’t just mindless, rotting corpses. Their souls are trapped behind their eyes, signaling voodoo of the blackest kind.

It’s the sort of case that can leave a mark on a person. And Anita’s own soul may not survive unscathed
.

Life is complicated. I have more relationships than I count and someone else is always wanting to be added to that list. On top of that I have my day jobs as a US Marshall and a vampire executioner and my night job as an animator/necromancer. I’m not really sure anymore if I’m coming or going. Now to make matters worse someone is raising zombies that have their souls trapped in their bodies. Can’t a girl catch a break?

Not as hot and steamy as some of Hamilton’s other books in this series but still a great read nonetheless. Hamilton has a vivid imagination and has been able to keep an awesome series going for more books than I can count. Even though it was a long book it was a quick read and worth every minute. Would have liked a little more of the story to be on Anita’s personal life and not work but other than that I really enjoyed the book. Looking forward to many more to come.

  1. Actually, I prefer less about Anita's personal life and would welcome Hamilton getting back to Anita's work. I'm tired of her obsession with her guys' looks, hair and sex, I want to see more fighting the bad guys or animation action again.

  2. I could not agree more with Anne...i'm excited to know this new book is more of the old Anita style - I have nothing against her romance but it was becoming a huge distraction
