I was an ex-con. A convicted killer. And I knew that’s all anyone would ever see me as. At least I thought so…until I met her… When recent parolee Bobby Cantrell loses yet another job, he resigns himself to the usual struggle of finding a place willing to take a chance on someone with his past. Then, without warning, a gorgeous blonde careens into his life and everything changes. Carly Prince. Gorgeous. Untouchable. Everything Bobby could ever want and knows he can never have. Except, maybe, he’s finally found someone who sees the good inside him, something even he can’t see. What he can’t do, however, is escape from his past. A past that now threatens to destroy the new life he’s building for himself…and threatens people he’s come to care about. Can he save them, or will he have more blood on his hands?

The cover of this story is HOT, no question about that. However, where the cover is smoking the story itself falls more in the category of lackluster and generally unbelievable. I really did want to like this one more then it turned out, I mean who doesn't love a sexy romance with buffed up dudes. The areas that needed more development for me had to be the chemistry between our main pair. They didn't in any way make sense to me. She's a rich Hollywood gal who falls for the dirt poor bad boy, but the why and how of it never clicked to me. She crashes into him on the street one day and the next second becomes his sugar mama. Like almost a reversed Pretty Woman situation, if they happened to meet on the set of The Body Guard. Meh. NO thanks.
He's also over the top with his sob-story background. Sure, we know he was an ex-con (it's in the bloody title!) but it's all the guy ever talks about. He throws it out there every other page. Making him into more of a weepy male then the strapping alpha. Last thing I want to do is hold hands while you have a good ole "man cry." This inner angst/self worth issue our main man has seems to be the whole story. Which would have possibly been okay in much smaller doses. Added to a leading lady that's got a screaming need for more complexity to her character and this saga could have jumped many sheep in ratings! I'm sad that the authors gave the green light without working on some details a bit more. But this is all just my review ramblings. I recommend checking out what other reviewers are saying before you proceed. This con wasn't for me, but it could be just the right jail bait for you!
