Sheep Movie Review: Terminator: Dark Fate (2019)

Terminator: Dark Fate
Nov 1, 2019

Rating: R (for violence throughout, language and brief nudity)
Genre: Action & Adventure, Drama, Science Fiction & Fantasy

More than two decades have passed since Sarah Connor prevented Judgment Day, changed the future, and re-wrote the fate of the human race. Dani Ramos (Natalia Reyes) is living a simple life in Mexico City with her brother (Diego Boneta) and father when a highly advanced and deadly new Terminator -- a Rev-9 (Gabriel Luna) -- travels back through time to hunt and kill her. Dani's survival depends on her joining forces with two warriors: Grace (Mackenzie Davis), an enhanced super-soldier from the future, and a battle-hardened Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton). As the Rev-9 ruthlessly destroys everything and everyone in its path on the hunt for Dani, the three are led to a T-800 (Arnold Schwarzenegger) from Sarah's past that may be their last best hope.

Went to see Terminator: Dark Fate last weekend with my husband. I wanted it to be good...I hoped it would be good...but it wasn't. The script was awful. Now, I love a good action movie and this had a ton of really fun over the top scenes. But for some reason that wasn't enough for me this time. Maybe I had too many expectations.

I loved Grace (Mackenzie Davis). Who knew I had a type! I was glad Linda Hamilton was in it. She's never been the best actress, but combine that with awful dialog...

Arnold can't act either but he's made for the role of a robotic character. The "new" terminator was pretty cool. The metal skeleton and the covering can operate separately.

It is a big action movie so seeing the special effects on the big screen is fun but you might want to save your money for something else and catch Terminator: Dark Fate on DVD.

My husband gave it 3 1/2

I give it 2.75 "You never should have come back" Sheep

Double Movie Review: TERMINATOR GENISYS

TERMINATOR GENISYS
Directed by: Alan Taylor
Rated: PG-13
Cast: Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jai Courtney, Emilia Clarke, Jason Clarke
Plot:
When John Connor (Jason Clarke), leader of the human resistance against Skynet, sends Kyle Reese (Jai Courtney) back to 1984 to protect his mother, Sarah (Emilia Clarke), from a Terminator assassin, an unexpected turn of events creates an altered timeline. Instead of a scared waitress, Sarah is a skilled fighter and has a Terminator guardian (Arnold Schwarzenegger) by her side. Faced with unlikely allies and dangerous new enemies, Reese sets out on an unexpected new mission: reset the future.

Katie's review
Arnold is back! It's no big secret though, since he said it in Terminator 2. Plus probably every other movie he's ever been in. The Austria man is a genius at one liners. I love it and love every cheesy muscled bit of him. The latest edition of the robo human haters was entertaining and CGI spectacular. I'm loving all the summer movies this year in the San Francisco bay. Shout-outs to my area!

Time travel timelines get a tad bit confusing, who was sent when and why? What the heck was going on at the very end and will we ever know the winner of this bot war? Well, who knows but you get what you get with this one.

I love the actress Emilia Clarke, and she's awesome in Game of Thrones, but let's compare her to Linda Hamilton who played Sarah Connor. Emilia was not that badass, ripped out fighter chick who busted physic wards melons. She's got a soft baby face and not those sharp edges you would expect a chick who knows what these machine feckers can do. I was disappointed she didn't get more into the role, this time around the character Sarah is much more reliant on her robo Pop to get her through life.

Overall, I was impressed when I thought this installment would just be another let down. The older actors in Hollywood tend to get pushed aside and forgotten sometimes, Arnold shows us that no matter your age you can still kick ass and take names!

Sharon's review
I saw it with my husband and 14 year old daughter. Don and I have seen all the previous Terminators, Holly has not. She wasn't all that impressed with it. She loved all the CGI effects—they blow a lot of s*** up. But she doesn't really like the robots take over the world idea. She also was confused by the time line shuffling they did. At the end there are two time lines still happening and one of them should have disappeared, but it might have because of the last scene (you got to stay past the first part of the credits for that extra scene.)

This left movie left me torn. I wanted to love it, but there were a few things that bugged me. The story line twists they came up with to make it work with the earlier movies was fantastic. I would give it 5 sheep for that and the visual effects, but...I wasn't impressed with the execution of it. It seems like they cut corners on paying their script writers in order to pay the special effects people more.

Another big problem for me was picturing the "new" Sarah Connor and Kyle Reese. My brain just didn't want to accept those actors in such iconic roles. Especially Emilia Clarke. She looks barely 16. Kind of hard to accept her as Sarah Connor. Jason Clarke as John Connor was an easy sell.

I didn't feel like the one liners were well timed. They felt forced into the dialogue because they had to be there.

If you are interested in just the story line then there is no reason to see this on the big screen, but if you love special effects/great CGI then you will want to see it at the theaters.

Sheep Movie Review: The Expendables 2

Expendables 2, directed by Simon West, and starring Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Dolph Lundgren, Terry Crews, Randy Couture, Chuck Norris, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bruce Willis, and Liam Hemsworth. If the cast alone hasn't sold you on this over-the-top action flick, then you may want to sit this one out!

Plot:
The Expendables are back and this time it's personal... Barney Ross (Sylvester Stallone), Lee Christmas (Jason Statham), Yin Yang (Jet Li), Gunnar Jensen (Dolph Lundgren),Toll Road (Randy Couture) and Hale Caesar (Terry Crews) -- with newest members Billy the Kid (Liam Hemsworth) and Maggie (Yu Nan) aboard -- are reunited when Mr. Church (Bruce Willis) enlists the Expendables to take on a seemingly simple job. The task looks like an easy paycheck for Barney and his band of old-school mercenaries. But when things go wrong and one of their own is viciously killed, the Expendables are compelled to seek revenge in hostile territory where the odds are stacked against them.

First off I have to start out by saying how VERY disappointed I was in the movie theater where I chose to see this one. (Cinema 7 in Campbell, CA) I went out of my way with two friends for the D-Box motion seat experience, an experience that I had the privilege of doing with the first installment of this franchise. Not only was the D-Box not working, but the seats were a mess of sticky goo and stains. Gross! Only 40 theaters across the globe offer the D-Box effect but I can only hope other theaters take better care with the seats, because at $17 a pop they better!

Now, on to the review! Yes, indeed, the old-timers are back and kicking some butt! Grab your hemorrhoid cream and get ready, some of the dudes we loved in the 80's are back once again to show us they still got it. If that's not enough to sell you on this movie, then how about some slap stick one-liners?! Expendables makes no apologies on where it's heading with the plot-line, where stunts and all around testosterone are the name of this game.

This movie's got everything from the classic 80's action flicks: blasting through walls, rolling around for no reason, wind effects in the background, bullets that should be killing our heroes, blood and guts, plus bulging muscles abound! Pure octane entertainment served up in the cheesiest fashion so you can't help but love it. The sunset years sure are shining on these men! They may be bald and wrinkled, but they're still blowing things up with a smile. Yes, it's hokey, and yes the plot sucks but if you're going into this for something dramatic and earth shattering then you've picked the wrong movie.

Corny and crazy with a huge helping of mindless nonsense, BUT this film is the best way to "let off some steam" for summer or "terminate" those back to school blues! (Get it? See what I did there?) Review for the first Expendables can be found HERE.
