Excerpt: Healed with a Kiss (Cat's Paw Cove Book 20) by Sharon Buchbinder + giveaway

Healed with a Kiss (Cat's Paw Cove Book 20)
by Sharon Buchbinder
Feb 9, 2021
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Brendan Redbird is a man of science and a medical professional. When this very uptight, predictable guy is adopted by a naughty talking cat (Tom) and his two brothers (Dick and Harry), Brendan's life makes an unpredictable turn.

Tom smacks a girl on the butt and lets Brendan take the blame. The only problem is the girl Tom smacked is a water nymph, Myrotessa, or Tessa for short. She isn't about to let Brendan off with that ridiculous excuse. Tessa has healing waters and the gift of prophecy—but she did not see that coming.

When the magical felines of Cat's Paw Cove begin succumbing to a mysterious malady, Tessa and Brendan are forced to work together to find a cure. Along the way to helping others, they fix the cracks in their hearts—and are healed with a kiss.

Excerpt
Tessa Crinos sat on the ledge of the fountain in Calico Court at sunrise and ran her fingers through the water. She asked the Potomoi, the gods of rivers and streams, to help her keep the waters of the fountain pure and to safeguard all the waters of Cat’s Paw Cove. When she finished her prayers and blessings, she rose and headed to Feline Fine Retirement Home, or FFRH. Today was a big delivery day, and as beverage manager, it was her job to make sure everything was in order. Goddess forbid that Agnes find something missing or that the wrong bottled waters had been delivered. The diminutive FFRH administrator would have Tessa’s head if anything was wrong. Who knew brownies could be so bossy? The Potomoi Assembly could have at least warned her before they assigned her to Cat’s Paw Cove and FFRH. She entered the spacious kitchen, said good morning to Malik, the executive chef, donned a jacket bearing her name—and stopped.

“Malik, where is that loud music coming from? It’s five in the morning.”

“I think it’s coming from the dining room. I arrived a few seconds before you.”

Tessa grimaced. “Wait until Agnes hears it!”

As if conjured by her name, a tiny woman dressed in a matching brown skirt and top with her name—Agnes—sewn on the blouse pocket, flung the dining room door open. Her bun was quivering; never a good sign. With a British accent that could either soothe or slice, she pointed at Tessa and said, “I need to speak with the two of you immediately.”

Turning, the diminutive administrator motioned for Tessa and Malik to follow her.

Later, the dining room would be filled with Supernaturals clustered at their preferred tables and talking and laughing. Right at the moment, rock and roll music drowned out any chance of a normal conversation.

Agnes led Tessa to a long table beneath a large window. The table bore an assortment of Valentine’s Day decorations in miniature, along with a doll’s house. The house, a made to scale model of the Victorian style retirement home, had been decked out for a party—complete with tiny heart-shaped balloons, red and pink lights that blinked on and off, and a tiny jukebox.

Tessa yelled to be heard over the foot-tapping song. “How do we turn this thing off?”

Agnes shook her head. “We can’t until we agree to hold a Valentine’s Day party. The Decorators insist. Normally, we have special food and a festive dinner, but this year they want to go big with a rock and roll party from the fifties.”

“That only gives us two weeks to prepare,” Malik yelled. “I may be a jinni, but even some things are beyond my abilities.”

Tessa recalled an Under the Sea Ball she’d worked on with her cousins, the Oceanids. “Unless—”

“Go on,” Agnes exclaimed. “We’re waiting.”

“Years ago, I planned a huge party for Oceanus, but I didn’t do it alone. We had a small group that organized the event and energized everyone to participate. I bet if we ask Madame Jinniyah and Tatesta Redbird to co-chair a committee, they’d be happy to do it.”

Malik nodded. “Ever since Ynez moved to Orlando with Dexter, Madame Jinniyah has been at loose ends. She’d love a new project.”

Agnes frowned. “Tatesta would want to invite her grandchildren.”

Tessa clapped her hands and shouted, “The bigger the better!”

Malik stroked his chin. “That’s all well and good for the Supernaturals and their families, but what about the cats? They have lots of opinions—on everything.”

“No one should be left out. We’ll ask them to serve on the committee.”

“This is going to be huge.” Agnes rubbed her hands and smiled. “Harold and I will have such fun cleaning up after, we’ll be up all night.”

Tessa laughed. “It’s a win-win. How do we let the Decorators know we’ve agreed to hold the biggest Valentine’s Day bash FFRH has ever seen?”

The music stopped.

“Blessed silence,” Agnes breathed. “Their house heard us.”

Tessa leaned down near the jukebox. “My favorite artists from that era are Chuck Berry and Elvis Presley. I’d love it if you could play their songs.”

The tiny jukebox flashed its lights and played the first few notes of Johnny B. Goode.

Tessa smiled. “This is going to be so much fun. I can’t wait to get started.”

Book Review: Lustful Dreaming (Taming the Dragon Clan Book 1) by Chelsea Falin + giveaway

Lustful Dreaming (Taming the Dragon Clan Book 1)
by Chelsea Falin
May 15, 2020

43 pages
Genre: Erotic Reverse Harem Paranormal Fantasy
Episode I: Lustful Dreaming
Zalena is hired by Damien to keep house, and she starts having weird, lustful dreams about her new employer. Azariel starts stirring up trouble… including asking out Zalena.

The Bad Guy:
Azariel.
A mage tapping into the darker half of the earth element and leader of the Jewel Clan, he was never so much evil as lost. Of all the things Azariel is willing to do, harming a woman or child isn’t one of them. He makes a point to use his resources to eradicate the world of rapists, woman abusers, and child beaters one dead man at a time.

The Good Guys:
Damien.
The last dragon shifter and leader of the Dragon Clan. He refuses to love, because love, he claims, is dangerous. He claims the sweet Zalena as the alpha male he is, partaking in carnal pleasures infused with pain that fade into soft care once his urges have been fulfilled.

Ezra.
A wolf shifter who despised the modern adaptation of his kind as ‘werewolves.’ With puppy-like enthusiasm and a good nature that lifts everyone’s spirits, Ezra has an animalistic personality in the bedroom infused with playfulness.

Markian.
A mage who taps into the white half of the spirit element. He’s very ordinary compared to his brethren, but has a calming way about him that puts everyone at ease. He’s the voice of common sense in their trio, and when he’s gone on missions, the other two are known for making very bad decisions.

The Woman:
Zalena.
A tiny, raven-haired beauty who has clawed her way up in the world from a dark past we don’t quite understand yet. She’s unwittingly pulled into a world of magic, into the battle for balance in the world, when she accepts a cleaning position from Damien.

Honestly, I had no idea at all what a reverse harem was. I had to ask my BFF Sharon and thank the undead Gods that she knew! So basically a bunch of hot dudes all pine over one lucky gal, kinda a dream come true? HELL YES IT IS!

Was there a story here? Sure, kinda. But it was a very short novella of less than 50 pages. So things go fast, hot and fast. Story who the hell cares. I loved this book for what it was. HOT.

Would be very interested in an actual full length story that will hopefully be out very soon. This was a nice tease but I need more and fast!

Getting 4 Sexy Men fighting over me Sheep

Katie D

Excerpt2:
"Well, thanks for the apology," I muttered under my breath. Those sarcastic comments were going to start bubbling over.

"Excuse me?" Damien's deep voice held an edge to it. Maybe he was used to being listened to. His next words caught me off guard, and I stared open-mouthed. "Maybe you'd like to be taught some manners?"

I wasn't sure how to take his comment. Manners? ME? He was the one being so ridiculously rude I wanted to kick him in his nuts. "Now you listen here, you arrogant…" my words trailed off as Damien took a step closer.

Although he wasn't close enough to touch me, there was only a finger's length between us. He towered over me, but the effect wasn't menacing. Had it been anyone else, I would have freaked out and taken advantage of the skills I learned in my self-defense classes. With him so close, staring down with those incredible eyes…. Incredible? No, weird… I was more inclined to tangle my fingers in his hair and wrap my legs around his waist. That feeling scared the hell out of me.

Book two in a #whychoose reverse harem with dark themes that some may find triggering.

Exclusive Excerpt:
The first thing Harlow noticed was the ache in her skull. And the second thing she noticed as she peeled her dry eyes open, were the dozen or so gorgeous men staring down at her. She didn’t recognize any of them. A spark of fear ignited in her chest as she sat upright, placing a hand on her head, her vision blurring. “W-what—?” One of the men started forward. His eyes were a cool grey, his lips twisted into a mischievous smirk. Harlow tried to back away further, only for her back to press against a cool wall. “No need to fear, Little Red,” the man said with a voice of silk and sin that warmed her insides. But only a little. Wait, little red? That was her name? “Who are you?” She asked, searching each chiseled, perfect face. Her gaze snagged on a blond man off to the side who looked at her with a sort of expectancy that she couldn’t understand. It was his icy blue eyes that drew her in. Her breath hitched. “You don’t remember any of us?” The steel-eyed man asked, drawing her attention back to him. She shook her head. “I can’t—” She paused. “What’s my name?” “Harlow,” breathed the blond, almost familiar man. Harlow. A bolt of stabbing pain slammed through her temples and she winced. Every man in the room moved toward her in unison, then froze when she jerked back against the wall. Her heart gave a heavy beat before picking up speed.

Excerpt: Valentine's Slay by Denise N. Wheatley +giveaway

Valentine's Slay
by Denise N. Wheatley
February 21, 2020
Genre: Steamy Sci-fi/Fantasy Romance Novella
In the land of Zanalia, Valentine’s Day is a celebration of war. When two of the realm’s fiercest foes go head-to-head over the sacred ritual, sparks unexpectedly fly, igniting an explosion of love, lust, and ultimately, broken traditions.

In a world filled with warriors, Valentine’s Day means war for the creatures of Zanalia. Mina, queen of the disciplinarian tribe, is responsible for spearheading attacks on the land’s worst enemies.

Spike, the son of king Theo and Mina’s biggest adversary, no longer believes in provoking battles on this love-filled holiday. He secretly encourages the Zanalians to put away their weapons and spend time with their loved ones instead. The absurd suggestion goes against the territory’s oldest tradition and is rejected by many, to the point where Spike receives death threats. His father grows worried for his son and orders Mina to stage his kidnapping, then provide him with personal, around-the-clock protection.

Mina is infuriated by the mission as she’s being forced to protect a disloyal traitor. She vows to make Spike’s time with her as torturous as possible until she unwittingly finds pleasure in the pain she inflicts upon him, while he seemingly relishes in her harsh punishments. Emotions run high between the pair, and Mina realizes that Spike’s wish to spread love this Valentine’s Day just may come true after all.

Book Excerpt
Mina slowly climbed the winding, glass staircase inside of Spike’s compound. She pressed her back against the wall while watching every angle around her. In order to gain access to his home, Mina had utilized her narcoleptic machine gun, which was capable of putting its victims to sleep within less than a second. She’d shot several darts into the necks of four armed guards manning the exterior. According to her surveillance, there were only two guards inside of the complex. Mina planned to quickly knock them out, grab hold of Spike, and get him inside of the transporter.

When she approached Spike’s master bedroom, Mina pressed her ear against the door and listened as he and the creatures spoke in hushed tones. She slowly turned the knob and cocked her gun. The minute she swung open the door, Mina shot a dart into the neck of a watchman standing to her left, then the one to her right. Spike made a run toward the bathroom, but just as he reached the threshold, she fired a dart into his throat. He fell to the floor, and along with the other two guards, fell into a deep, snoring slumber.

Mina swooped in immediately, lifting Spike up off the floor, carried him out of the house and threw him inside the transporter. There was a comfortable velvet couch that had been placed in the back, but instead of lying him there, she dragged his body onto a hard, cold iron bench.

“You’re going to pay for disrupting my retirement as Queen of the Disciplinarian Tribe and betraying our beloved Zanalian tradition,” she said, her wicked tone filled with satisfaction.

Mina stripped Spike down to his scant undergarments. She handcuffed his wrists and ankles, then wrapped a heavy metal chain around his waist and secured it with a huge padlock. As he lay there knocked out cold, she looked down at his muscular body, handsome face, and soft, vulnerable expression.

“Don’t you dare start that,” Mina told herself, shaking off the feeling of lust that briefly overcame her.

She headed to the front of the transporter and typed the name of a secret back road into the navigation system that would lead them far away from Spike’s compound and in the direction of her quarters. Once a map popped up on the overhead screen, Mina signaled to the horses that it was time to take off then sped away into the night.

“Help…help. Help!”

Mina’s ears perked up while she listened to Spike scream from the back of the transporter.

“What is going on?” he screeched. “Where the hell am I? Somebody, please, help me!”

“Ugh,” Mina moaned, ignoring his pleas. She grabbed hold of the steering bar and maneuvered the vehicle through a dark, dank, hilly road. According to her digital dashboard, they had been traveling for well over three hours. Mina had been in constant contact with Theo, who warned her to remain on the outskirts of Zanalia as Spike’s protestors were circling every inch of the land, waiting to attack him the moment he appeared.

“Whoever is holding me captive,” Spike called out, “you must release me at once! Do you know who I am? Do you know who my father is? I am the prince of Zanalia, soon to be king!”

“Please, shut up,” Mina muttered, unsympathetically. She pulled the steering bar back, anxious to get through the swampy territory and onto smoother terrain. When the chargers slowed down instead of speeding up, Mina realized they had yet to stop and take a break and assumed they were exhausted.

She directed them toward the side of the road, then grabbed several buckets of food and water and carried them outside. Once the chargers began feeding away, she hopped back into the transporter and headed toward the back where Spike was being held.

“What the…” he yelled the moment he saw her. “What is going on here, Mina? Where are we, and why am I in shackles? Release me, now! I insist!”

“Unfortunately for you, Spike, that is not going to happen. You see, because of your little attempt to disrupt Zanalia’s Valentine’s Day tradition, your father ordered that I kidnap and hold you captive until the holiday is over and our battle against Raynalium is complete. If you’re angry, be mad at yourself, but you should actually be thanking me, because I’m the reason you’re still alive.”

Spike glared at Mina. “If you do not remove these cuffs and chain at once, you will forever regret it,” he spewed, rattling the restraints to the point they almost tore into his skin.

“If you keep threatening me, you’ll be the only one with regrets.”

Spike tried to sit up, but the chain around his waist forced him back down onto the freezing bench. He jerked his head toward Mina and let out a resounding roar.

“My guards will know where to find me,” he told her. “The second they free me, I swear I’m going to kill you!”

She walked over to Spike and leaned in so closely her face was mere inches away from his.

“You know what? I was going to play nice with you. Well…semi-nice. But now? Playtime is over. You’re going to be sorry for the way you just spoke to me.”

Mina sauntered toward the front of the transporter, ignoring Spike’s cries as he called out her name. She grabbed the metal suitcase she’d secretly packed before heading out on the mission in the event she’d need its contents. Judging from Spike’s rebellious behavior, Mina realized that she had done the right thing.

“What are you doing?” he asked when she opened the case and pulled out two steel clamps. “What are those?”

She's penned over forty acclaimed titles and six award-winning series, and been awarded the RT Book Reviews Career Achievement Award for Erotica. But she's especially proud and humbled to have won the support and enthusiasm of a wonderful, widely diverse readership.

So why erotic romance? “Writing great erotic romance is all about exploring the true face of who we are – the best and worst - which typically comes out in the most vulnerable moments of sexual intimacy.” She has earned a reputation for writing BDSM romance that not only wins her fans of that genre, but readers who would “never” read BDSM romance. She believes that's because strong, compelling characters are the most important part of her books.

“Whatever genre you’re writing, if the characters are captivating and sympathetic, the readers are going to want to see what happens to them. That was the defining element of the romances I loved most and which shaped my own writing. Bringing characters together who have numerous emotional obstacles standing in their way, watching them reach a soul-deep understanding of one another through the expression of their darkest sexual needs, and then growing from that understanding into love - that's the kind of story I love to write."

Character Confessions: Conoll has something to say to his author Nicole Krizek + giveaway

Thank you, I Smell Sheep for having me as a guest author today! I am thrilled to be sharing my new novel with you, Alien Revelation.

As excited as I am about my new book being released, I have one main character who’s less than happy. His name is Conall, and seeing as though I put him through the proverbial ringer, I felt it fair to let him vent some of his frustration.

He’s joining us via vid screen from his new home on the planet of Arath, thousands of lightyears from Earth.

Nicole- “Conall, thank you for joining me today! I feel like we haven’t talked in a while.”

Conall- “That’s because I’ve been avoiding you, but I’m glad to hear you admit that what you put me through while writing this bloody book was wrong.”

(I’d forgotten how much I LOVE his Scottish brogue!)

Nicole- “I didn’t say that I what did was wrong. I said I put you ‘through the ringer.’”
Conall- “Either way, I didn’t appreciate it.”

Nicole- “I know. You made that abundantly clear while I was writing the story. Remember that blog post I wrote last year? I spent a several hundred words venting my frustration with how obstinate you were being.”
Conall- “That’s because you moved me to an alien planet! And as if that’s no’ bad enough, you foisted Brogan and Onalee at me, knowing perfectly well what would happen.”
Nicole- “I didn’t foist anyone.”
Conall- “You did.”
Nicole- … “Maybe.”

Conall- “You introduced me to a male you knew I’d have confusing feelings for.”
Nicole- “Guilty. But in my defense, I was hoping that you’d develop deep feelings for Brogan, not just confusing feelings.”

Conall-“That doesn’t make it better. And as if that wasn’t bad enough, right when I was about to take a leap of faith, you abandoned me.”

(wince)

Nicole- “That’s true, I did take a break from your story to write something else. But in my defense, I did that because of your stubborn refusal to listen and trust me! You forced me to take a break to keep my own sanity.”
Conall- “What of my sanity? You left me, confused about my sexuality… wanting two people but unable to move forward.”

Nicole- “I am sorry. At the time I didn’t know how to convince you to continue in the story with me, and I thought that a little separation would do us some good. In my defense, it worked. When I came back to Alien Revelation, I was able to help you through your self-identity crisis.”
Conall- “More like gave me a swift kick in the arse.”

Nicole- “Well… it worked, didn’t it?”
Conall- “Don’t expect me to thank you for the heartache.”

Nicole- “Conall, don’t you understand? Everything I did was to give you your own happily ever after. I knew that you deserved it, and so did many readers who requested that this book feature you as a main character.”
Conall- “People actually asked you to write my story?”

Nicole- “Yes, and I listened to them because I care about you and your son, Oliver. I knew that it would be a hard journey for you, but I wrote your story anyway. What can I say? I have a soft spot for sexy highlanders with a thick… brogue.”
Conall- …
Nicole- “Conall, are you blushing?”
Conall- “Of course no’. It’s just hot in here.”

(Brogan steps onscreen at Conall’s side)

Brogan- “You know perfectly well that the home’s AI keeps this room at a perfect temperature.”
Conall- “You’re no’ helping, Brogan.”

Brogan- “I wasn’t trying to help. You’re doing a good job digging yourself into a hole without me offering you another shovel.”
Conall- “Whose side are you on?!”

Brogan- “Ours. Always. But Nicole did make us an “us.””

Conall- “I suppose.”
Brogan- “You suppose… is that the best you can do?”

(Did Brogan’s voice just lower, going all gravely and sexy?)

Nicole- “Brogan! No nibbling on his neck in public! Boys, we’re the guest on someone’s blog! You can’t act like horny teenagers.”
Brogan- “To quote Onalee: “Don’t you know anything about Arathians? We’re very affectionate.’”

(Onalee joins the two males onscreen)

Onalee- “I said that to Oliver, not Conall.”
Brogan- “It still applies.”

Conall- “Oy, I thought I was the guest on this blog, not the entire bloody household.”
Onalee- “Oh, Conall. Count yourself lucky your mother isn’t here. She’d give you an earful for the things you’ve been saying.”

Conall- “Don’t you dare tell my mother.” (Is that genuine fear in his eyes?)
Onalee- “That all depends.”
Conall- “On what?”
Onalee- “On whether or not you apologize to Nicole for your tone.”

Conall- “But I wasn’t wrong; she put me through hell these last few months!”
Onalee- “She did. But you know it was for your own good. That’s why I’m saying you need to apologize for your tone, not your words.”

(There’s some grumbling about him being treated like his 10-year old son.)

Conall- “Fine. I’m sorry that I was rude before.”
Nicole- “Thank you. And I’m sorry that I left your story to work on another. I’ll try to not leave characters hanging like that ever again.”

Conall- “You’re going to write MORE stories like mine?”
Nicole- “Not like yours exactly, but yes, I have many more in mind.”

Conall- “Poor bastards.”
Nicole- “Conall, thanks for joining me today. Is there anything else you’d like to say to our audience?”

Conall- “Aye, go buy the bloody book so that all of this would have been worth it.”
Nicole- “Conall… seriously?”

(Finally, the corner of his mouth turns up in a saucy grin)

They must act swiftly to secure their future...and that of the entire Arathian race.

Heralded as the saviors of the Arathian species for their ability to procreate with the infertile Arathians, Earthers are honored citizens on Arath. While his son and extended family seem to be enjoying their new lives on the alien planet, the young widower, Conall MacLeod, feels like he doesn’t have a purpose on their extraordinary world.

His future is forever changed when he meets an Arathian male and female who make him wish for a second chance at love. But nothing is ever easy…

Conall’s self-identity is entrenched in the idea that he’s a monogamous—and heterosexual—man, yet he finds himself unexpectedly lusting after two people, one of them, shockingly, male. He can’t deny that he craves things he’s never wanted before, but if he’s ever going to find love again, he must get past his insecurities and rewrite his own self-image.

Who are the Arathians unexpectedly turning Conall’s head, and heart?

Onalee Cormikan is the co-heiress to Cormikan Industries, the leading medical research firm on Arath, which is devoted to finding a cure for their infertility. Considered reclusive by her peers after the tragic death of her parents, she’s content to support her older brother in the search for a cure... until she meets Brogan, Conall, and his family.

They make her yearn to step out of her possessive brother’s shadow, and explore what—and who—she wants in life.

Brogan is a First Lieutenant of the Arathian Royal Guard, entrusted with the protection of Arath’s soon-to-be monarchs. Solely dedicated to his job, he never expected to find a future outside his passion for his work. Yet Conall’s internal struggles seem to stand in the way of their happy future together as a trio. It’s a good thing Brogan likes a challenge.

Conall’s struggle with his sexuality isn’t the only problem facing the threesome.

As the royal coronation for Princess Jayda, Prince Deian, and Prince Lukas draws near, a new terrorist organization emerges: one that threatens not only the royal trio, but all Earthers on Arath.

With the cure to Arathians’ infertility in sight, Conall, Onalee, and Brogan must do what they can to secure both their future, and that of the Arathian race.

Warning: this book contains explicit scenes of intimacy between three consensual adults: M/F, M/M, and M/M/F.

Excerpt From Chapter 3:
Across the field, he saw Forkan Cormikan emerge from the gardens with a female on his arm—a beautiful female.

Brogan felt his breath rush out of his lungs as his entire being focused on the pair across the lawn. Was she Forkan’s mate? No, she couldn’t be. Brogan knew that the male wasn’t mated, and that he rarely brought dates out in public. Was this his sister? Please let her be his sister.

Her long hair was held back from her face by braids, and fell down her back in a black waterfall. She was slight in stature, and thin—as if she hadn’t eaten a decent meal in months. Her head turned, taking in the scene, and Brogan wondered what shade of green her eyes were.

He casually moved towards them—not because he felt a pull to do so. Nope. Not at all. It was his duty to keep tabs on all of the guests, including the beautiful females.

He was halfway to the pair, when Forkan broke away from her and headed towards a group of council members. The female was left alone, standing at the edge of the lawn, holding her small purse with both hands in front of herself.

Brogan stopped and pretended to be admiring the nearby foliage. He sipped his glass of water and watched the female. She didn’t seem upset that she’d just been abandoned.

Her gaze wandered over the lawn, while his eyes stayed glued to her. She was absolutely beautiful. Her skin was a light shade of tan, decorated with golden oriaglyphs that ran the length of her arms.

Oriaglyphs were extremely expensive, and few women had that level of decoration on their bodies. The golden tattoos shone in the sunlight, and seemed to make her glimmer. Brogan focused on the symbol high on her shoulder that signified her family, and was unsurprised to see the Cormikan family crest.

This was definitely Onalee, Forkan’s reclusive sister.

Brogan had long ago learned all of the Council members and their families by name and appearance, but even after the dozens of events he’d attended as a Guard for the royal family, he’d never seen Onalee in person. He remembered that she’d been home-schooled after the loss of her parents when she was practically a child. Still a young man himself, Forkan had become her guardian. She’d never gone to vocational training, like most young people, and instead had had private tutors. Now a grown woman, she didn’t have a profession, and had never mated.

Brogan couldn’t see why: she was lovely. There was no way males had stayed away from her, especially given her family’s status.

He heard a large splash come from the lake, and watched Onalee’s face light up in a bright smile. If he’d thought her beautiful standing there placid, it didn’t compare to when she genuinely smiled; it was like she was lit from within. Brogan stared, completely transfixed, as something inside of him shifted.

He reached out and grasped a nearby tree trunk to keep himself grounded. Inside, he had no clue what the hell was going on. His chest was tight, his heart hammered so hard that he was becoming lightheaded. Farther south, his groin tightened with each moment he watched the female.

Brogan closed his eyes tightly, and willed his body to gain control of itself. Nothing like this had ever happened, and he wasn’t sure if it was a positive thing or not.

Most assuredly not, he told himself. He’d gone through years of specialized training to be at the top of his profession. Nothing had ever thrown him off-kilter. Until one tiny slip of a female, he added.

Against his wishes, Brogan’s attention remained on Onalee. She spent another few moments watching the children play at the lake, before she shook herself and moved towards the food tents.
