Excerpt: Pestilence (Feared Fables Book 3) + giveaway

Pestilence: A Modern Retelling of the Four Horsemen (Feared Fables Book 3)
by Klarissa King
September 3rd, 2019
Genres: Fantasy, New Adult, Retelling
For centuries, Pestilence has tried to fall out of love with Death—the reason for her curse. But with her heart and mind at odds, humanity’s fate doesn’t stand a chance in her cold, grey hands.

Pestilence and Shadow, her trusted steed, walk the earth to deliver plagues upon the humans. But when they wake to a world they don’t recognise, Pestilence must learn to navigate the advanced technology of the humans and evade their interest in her.
It isn’t long until videos of her destruction are spread across the human world.

Soon, Pestilence finds herself with more than just her steed as her shadow. Now, the humans and Death are tracking her to the ends of the earth.
This mission is different. There’s a new Horserider, War, whose bloodthirst can only be matched by Pestilence’s, and he carries with him a past so mysterious that Pestilence suspects he hasn’t come to end just the humans, but her, too.

And Death, after centuries, suddenly yearns for her again.
Something is different about this mission. Something is different about the Horseriders.
And it’s something Pestilence must uncover if she’s to outlive the species she loathes so much and survive whatever malevolence Death and War are brewing.
The end has come … but for who?

Third Book in the ANTHOLOGY series, Feared Fables.

Spotlight: On a Pale Horse (Revelations Book 4) by Monica Corwin + giveaway

The highly anticipating conclusion to the Revelations series is out now!

by Monica Corwin
May 16, 2017
Genre: Paranormal Romance
And behold a pale horse that carried the name death…. Management of The Underground, a New York club with a reputation for delivering a host of guilty pleasures, could have been a whole lot more fun if Cloris didn’t spend half that time avoiding Hades. Despite the burning attraction to the former God of the Underworld, she still harbors a nagging fear that her advances could rekindle the disturbing experiences of Hel’s hospitality. But when the four horsemen discover that it may be possible to hang up their mantels for good, Cloris is torn between her desire to no longer be a horseman and her hesitation that she could be anything other than death…. Regardless of the scars he gathered from enduring time at the hands of Hel, Hades craves nothing more than to immerse himself in Cloris’s attentions. Frustrated by his inability to convince her that he desires her in every imaginable way, he fears she only sees him as damaged or worthless. But when the horsemen decide to truly embrace mortality, he realizes that he will have to move quickly… or risk losing her forever. In a race to the end, can Cloris and Hades embrace the love they could possibly share or will their stubbornness doom the horseman to live a life worse than death —remaining horseman forever? On a Pale Horse is the exciting conclusion to the Revelations Series from New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Monica Corwin. If you like the work of Larissa Ione, Karen Marie Moning and Kresley Cole you will love the four book to the Revelations series!

Book Review: The Book of Ren (The Gospels of Cal'eia Book 4) by Calandra Usher

by Calandra Usher
June 21st 2015
Paperback, 436 pages
Cali swore she'd never use her power to kill again, yet that's exactly what she's being asked to do, and she can't refuse. Her life and that of her unborn daughter are on the line. She's playing a deadly game, and has pledged her fealty to Lucifer, the very monster she's been running from all this time. She's betrayed her husband, her heart, and her very soul. She's fallen in love with another man and knows her husband will never forgive her. Why should he, when she can't forgive herself? She's already lost everything... That is, unless she can out fiddle the Fiddler.

WOW...WOW...WOW...I didn't think these reads could get any better after reading Book 1 in this series but I was WRONG! I have read all four of these books and am realizing I am sooo going to miss Cali and her four horsemen. Ms Usher pulled me into this world, now I feel like she needs to offer me withdrawal support!

Great writing, great story (although I wanted to just smack Cali for some of her antics), great characters! I even enjoyed her Acknowledgements! Calandra Usher has put together a must read series. Sure, there may be some controversial subject matter but "Hey", when you're telling your life story, who can argue!

Each of her books tell the tale of the four horseman of the apocalypse and how their thousands of years journey has been brought to conclusion. Oh and did I mention there are other Angels (sorry guys...Seraphins)? Lucifer, Michaela, Raphael and a few half-breeds inserted for good measure? You even get a great playlist of music as a side effect. Do yourself a favor and pick these up....keep an open mind and I guarantee you will not be sorry! Immerse yourself in this fantasy with danger, emotion, an unusual love story and a "family" that you would adopt (or want to be adopted into) in a heartbeat. 'Sigh', were that it be mine! Thanks Calandra for a great run!

About the Author:
Calandra Usher, or Cali as she prefers to be called is the author of the Urban Paranormal Fantasy Romance Series, The Gospels of Cal’eia. She never intended to be a writer but was persuaded (cajoled, guilted, bullied, and bribed) into doing so by her very unique family. Once it began, the words poured out of her fingers like sand through an hourglass and she had a hard time keeping up. The original drafts were written over a five month time period (Yes, all four books, half a million words… in five months. Not a lot of sleeping occurred.)

Prompted by her family and a few old friends, she self published it through CreateSpace and let it loose into the wild in September of 2014.

A long time lover of stories in general, she’s been influenced by a plethora of Authors, Actors, Artists, and all the wonderful people she’s met in her vast travels. You may recognize hints of Sir Terry Pratchett, Stephan King, Joss Whedon, Dr. Who, Star Trek… and many others we Geeks hold dear to our hearts.

The Gospels are her first writing endeavor, but wont be her last. More stories are forthcoming, both about The Riders and other subjects. An artist all her life, she loves drawing, painting, and carving wood. Lately however, sculpting words has become her passion.

Book Review: The Book of Dean (The Gospels of Cal'eia 1) by Calandra Usher

The Book of Dean (The Gospels of Cal'eia 1)
by Calandra Usher
Kindle Edition, 287 pages
September 18th 2014
Sarah is terrified to stay in any one place for too long, lest they find her, and force her to use her special abilities to hurt, to maim, to kill. Exhausted, and at the end of her rope, she takes refuge from a storm upon an enormous estate in the middle of the North Carolina country side. Due to a freak accident she is forced to remain with the four unusual men who live there, putting herself and them at great risk. Will they discover her secret powers and turn her in to the authorities, or will she discover their secrets first, and realize that what she's found is worse than what she's been running from?

I loved the witty and sometimes snarky writing in this unique take on Love, the apocalypse and a deity most would relate to as "God". A young woman's adventure to self discovery.

I was hooked before even starting the book. The "Foreward" gave just a sampling of the author's amazing ability to make a story interesting with her thought process and writing style. I wanted to imagine that if I had the ability to be a storyteller and writer, my style would mirror her's.

What an adventure! This story is sometimes mindless ramblinging, descriptive but not overly wordy, shockingly insightful at times and always with the undertone of purpose. A great cloaking of the story of the four horsemen of the apocalypse and the missing piece of the group needed to bring sense and closure to their lengthy existence. Look closely and I think you will "see" a little "history" regurgitated as the author's viewpoint and even, perhaps, some literary "licensed" prophecy!

Bit by bit, Sara's (Cali's) attributes are revealed and the discovery is enthralling albeit fantastical (Ha, see, even I can make up words!).

I have already started the second book in this series but needed to stop and write this review! Whoa! Slow down and take one at a time. I hope the others follow suit and are as enjoyable as this "Book of Dean".

Sheep Book Review: Rogue Rider by Larissa Ione

*Since it's 12-12-12, and the end of the world, thought it was the best day to post a review about the four horsemen! It's been real, world. Peace out peoples!(Pours some Kool-Aid out for the homies)*

Rogue Rider, by Larissa Ione, is the fourth and final installment of her PNR series: Lords of Deliverance. With all the build up for the final Horseman I was very eager to find out how this would all come to an end, and while I wasn't disappointed I am tacking on a qualifying "much" on that statement.

Plot:
Jillian Cardiff came to this remote mountain town to forget the demon attack that almost killed her. Instead, she rescues-and falls for-a gorgeous stranger who has no memory of anything other than his name. Handsome, charming, and protective, Reseph seems like the kind of man whom Jillian can trust. But with hints of a troubling history of his own, he's also the kind of man who can be very dangerous . . .

Reseph may not know why he mysteriously appeared in Jillian's life, but he knows he wants to stay. Yet when Jillian's neighbors are killed, and demon hunters arrive on the scene, Reseph fears that he's putting Jillian in danger. And once it's revealed that Reseph is also Pestilence, the Horseman responsible for ravaging the world, he and Jillian must face the greatest challenge of all: Can they forget the horrors of a chilling past to save the future they both desire?

First I just want to say that Larissa is one of those writers I can't help but love! Her Demonica series was one of the first PNR series I read that really grabbed me, so a soft spot in my heart will always be held for this talented writer. A lot of her books are the most diverse and well-written stories out there today, so truly you cannot go wrong with her titles. But, as the super fan that I am I wanted a little less fluff and a bit more emotion in the final leg of this journey.

Second, Ares is still and will always be my man and his story will remain at the top of my list for this saga and all others. Hands down I am his, body and soul! However, this story focuses on Reseph, and while he did eventually win me over, I really hated this guy for a long time during the series. He was down right evil to the core and twisted beyond belief because he was being ruled by his evil half, Pestilence. Still you can't ignore assigning some blame for all he did, and trust me, he did a lot! As things get going we find Reseph with amnesia and dumped in the middle of nowhere snow country.

Enter Jillian, the woman who's hiding out in the big bad woods to both escape and heal from mental and physical wounds. Jillian takes in a stranger she finds buried in the snow, completely naked, and makes him her famous chili! I can't say that I would do what she did but it's a story and so it goes. What I did find lacking was that bond that developed between other characters in previous stories. Jilly is surely a nice person and hard working on the farm she loves, but was she Reseph material...I don't know.

For someone who has so many issues, Jilly also sure does overlook so much about Reseph. When he gets his memory back, they both find out that not only was he the guy who was leading demons on an attack across the globe but that he's been a huge man whore. For some reason Jillian can just look past all that and take him for who he is now, even if he doesn't know who he is.

As the story hits its stride and the drama builds, demons from all sides of the paranormal world want to take these pair down. The side of good needs Reseph to play a role in the biblical apocalypse while the side of evil needs him to let the bad loose again. The one major bone I have to pick here is that, if Jillian is the key to keeping him sane, why did no one think to plant some kind of protection around the farm and Jilly? Not even my War strategy-loving man Ares? Really?

All in all the story was good, and you get a big dose of the Horsemen and their mates plus some of the Demonica folks that you can't help but love all over again. Great drama and several funny laugh out loud moments all set to adventure and action I've come to love from Ione.

You have to read this book to continue with the different series arcs but if you're a fan it will be well worth it!

Sheep Book Review: Lethal Rider by Larissa Ione

Lethal Rider, by Larissa Ione, is the third edition in her Lords of Deliverance PNR saga. The four horsemen of the apocalypse have continued to entertain and while THIS story may not be my personal favorite it’s still an alpha male horseman stud party that I’d gladly attend!
(Shirts not required)

Plot:
Thanatos, the most deadly Horseman of the Apocalypse, has endured thousands of years of celibacy to prevent the end of days. But just one night with the wickedly sexy Aegis Guardian, ReganCooper, shatters centuries of resolve. Yet their passion comes with a price. And Thanatos must face a truth more terrifying than an apocalypse-he's about to become a father.

Demon-slayer Regan Cooper never imagined herself the maternal type, but with the fate of the world hanging in the balance she had no choice but to seduce Thanatos and bear his child. Now, as the final battle draws closer and his rage at being betrayed is overshadowed by an undeniable passion for the mother of his child, Thanatos has a life-shattering realization: To save the world, he must sacrifice the only thing he's ever wanted-a family.

Let me start out by saying that Regan did not endear herself to me at all with the things she did to my boy Than, the lies and deceit left a very sour taste in my mouth. Trickery is fun for small stuff but Regan agrees to take the game a tad too far! So like Than I wanted to bash her brains in initially, but I did start to see her p.o.v. and get why she did all the things that led to her getting knocked up. That being said by the end of the story Regan and I squashed all the bad blood drama. Look at us playing like big girls! *fist pumps*

Than’s got a serious dark side that will unfortunately always be with him. Drawn to death and destruction the poor sap's never going to get a good night's sleep. But that being the burden he has to bear I don’t think any other character in this saga could carry the weight of so many souls on his shoulders. The guys got grace and style plus a very tender side that just needs a little nurturing to bring out the best in him. He’s the type to go all in or not at all, which I personally love in a lead male.

The chemistry between Regan and Than was pretty good for the most part. I only take issue with getting busy while almost nine months pregnant. As someone who’s been down that road let me just say it was not easy, enjoyable or pretty in any way shape or form. So anything relating to bedroom playtime I had a hard time believing.

Aside from the romance a few grammar errors popped up in the paperback copy I purchased which always slows down the reading flow. Having to go back and reread sentences or trying to decode what was really trying to be said can be a pain. And one time Regan’s reaction, or lack thereof, to finding out some devastating news was so under whelming that I wondered why it was skipped over. Bad news given and next sentence now it’s on with lunch!

But no matter what the tiny details are the overall story and saga as a whole is a slamming good time that would make any gal dream of the apocalypse coming. A little less action this time around but some nice plot twists that lead right up to the next book!

Sheep Book Review: Immortal Rider by Larissa Ione

Immortal Rider, by author Larissa Ione, is the second novel in her Lords of Deliverance series. Most folks might run and hide from the four Horsemen of the Apocalypse but I'd run straight into their fearsome arms. These men are Hot with a capital H, and when you combine Larissa's uncanny ability to write top quality literature, you have yourself one heck of a party!

Plot:

The signs are everywhere...disastrous world events. Evil rising up, unleashed upon the innocent. The prophecies were there...but no one listened. Until now. The time has come for those who can either usher in Doomsday...or prevent it. They are here. They ride. The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse.

Arik Wagner, a soldier with the U.S. Army's paranormal unit, the R-XR, kissed a girl and liked it. And then he went to hell as punishment. Where he's spent weeks being tortured...and plotting revenge.

Limos, Horsewoman of the Apocalypse, isn't your average girl. She's immortal, dangerous, and her fiancé is Satan himself. In a moment of weakness, she gave in to her desire and kissed Arik, triggering her fiancé's wrath - and his claim on her. In order to save Arik, and the world, Limos must make a dangerous pact with her recently turned evil brother, Pestilence. A deal that might just cost her her soul...and her heart.

For those of you that don't know, I fell in love with Larissa's Demonica series a long time ago. So when she started this spin-off series to Demonica, I knew that I had to jump on board. Book one in the LOD series, Eternal Rider, sold me lock stock and smokin' barrel all because of uber man muffin Ares. *dreamy sigh* That man is one of my fav alpha males from the vast number of books I read. That being said, I was a little concerned going into this story with Limos being the focal character. The sister to the three kickass Horseman brothers has big shoes to fill, but Limos brings the girl power with a vengeance! She's one tuff chick who enjoys a lot of pain with her pleasure. I can dig it. *winks*

Forced to wear a chastity belt for the last three thousand years, Limos is well past due for some romps in the stables. But when your betrothed is Satan himself, getting some action isn't going to be that easy. Limos wants to get her freak on with Mr. beef candy land in the form of military heart-throb Arik. (Sir! Yes, Sir!) BUT with a history of lies and deceit this means Limos has some serious patching up to do with her family. Will she be able to stop all the lying when it's become a habit of survival over the centuries? I'm not telling! As the reader you really are pulling for Limos but things get heated in the book and the path ahead looks bleak and unsure. I gotta hand it to Arik for being the type of man who can understand the "crazy" yet still he's ready to die for his woman.

Larissa puts together some of the most incredible stories with a ton of interesting dialog between characters. Ultimately it gives her books a stamp of believability. Immortal Rider also has tons of action-packed fighting with blood and guts for those that love some gore in there adventure stories. These are not the boring type of books I can't really stomach reading, these are a nonstop journey in the world of the Lords.

I'm going to recommend to newbies that you start with either book one of this series or even go back to the Demonica series and work through those first. There's a bunch of cross-over characters from those books, which for folks that are up to date with Larissa's works is a great thing. Not that you CAN'T enjoy this book but a few things are mentioned with little or no explanation in THIS story. Those details have been talked about throughly in previous books. I think readers would understand the series as a whole better if you read them in order. So it's good for the fans, but a little tuff for new guys in certain areas.

I did get a nice hunk of Ares, so hats off to Larissa for keeping the previous characters still VERY involved in the continuing series.

Sheep Interview: author Larissa Ione + giveaway!

Today the Sheep are honored to bring you our interview with PNR Goddess Larissa Ione. Her amazing series of books have captivated readers around the globe, truly a fantastic read I'd recommend to anyone. If you're all now thinking this hottie author is one to marry and keep forever in unicorn filled rooms of wonder....you can't! She's mine! Mine! No touching! *hiss*

Katie: Thanks so much for coming back to chat with us Larissa, how have things been since we last spoke in February?
Larissa: Busy! Like, OMG, I need a year-long vacation, busy! And thanks for having me back!

Katie: For those that don't know about your Lords of Deliverance can you fill folks in a little?
Larissa: Sure! The LOD series is a spinoff of the Demonica series. It's about the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, and they're trying to save the world after the events that took place in the fifth Demonica book, Sin Undone, unleashed a new wave of terror that could bring about the End of Days. The Horsemen are neither good nor evil until their Seals break, and now that one has broken, it's only a matter of time before they all break. You'll see lots of gritty violence, steamy love scenes, and best of all, you'll see all of the Demonica characters, some of whom play large roles.

Katie: Ares is my lover, I don't care who he's "with" he is mine and I will not take no for an answer! Sorry had too much caffeine today. Anyway, what's been the best part about writing the stories of the Four Horsemen?
Larissa: LOL -- glad you love Ares so much! I'd say the best part about writing them has been that I get to incorporate real legends and events into the books. I'm a history buff, so any time I can squeeze some of it in, I'm happy!

Sharon: We are asking authors what they like and/or dislike on review blogs. Got any advice for us and other bloggers?
Larissa: I love bloggers and review blogs! It's you who help spread the word about our books, and I appreciate it more than I can say. I really hate to criticize or offer advice, but I guess the one thing I dislike seeing is when reviews get personal against the author or presume to know what the author was thinking when they were writing the book. Fortunately, this doesn't happen often, especially on blogs. Seems to be more of an Amazon thing!.

Katie: Aside from an amazingly written story you sure do know how to spice things up with these beef cakes. What new, uh how to put this, "extra curricular activities" can we look forward to. (Yeah I went there, don't look at me like that Sharon!)
Sharon: Wha? I was just thinking how unusually tactful you were. Your shock treatments must be…er…nevermind….
Larissa: LOL -- well, look for a lot of, um, hand action in Immortal Rider. When you have two virgins (Limos and Thanatos) in one book, you get a lot of sexual frustration!

Katie: Some folks may not know that you're something of a dog whisper haha can you share the things you've been teaching the animals at your house?
Larissa: Ha! My dog doesn't think I "whisper" at all! But we've been learning the usual obedience stuff, as well as ringing a bell to go out, going potty on command, taking her chew toys to her bed (to chew ONLY on the bed so the floors don't get messy,) and the big one: LEAVE THE CAT ALONE!!!! :)

Sharon: If I blindly stuck my hand in your purse and grabbed something what would I probably find?
Larissa: Receipts. I never clean out my purse.

Katie: Your Demonica Series is another entertaining storyline, what can fans look forward to from the hottie UG doctors?
Larissa: Ooh, UG doctors play big roles in Lethal Rider. You'll be seeing a lot of our Demonica peeps, because the world is a messy, messy place in the LOD books!

Sharon: Which book (either series) was your favorite to write and why?
Larissa: Hmmm...I really loved writing Passion Unleashed because Wraith is just so much fun, but I think the final LOD book (Reseph's book,) is just as much fun, because Reseph is a blast -- such an easygoing, happy guy. Well, sort of. He's a little out of sorts given what he's done as Pestilence!

Katie: If you could go out on a date with anyone from past to present who would it be and why?
Larissa: Not a clue. Really. I think I like fictional people too much!

Sharon: Give use a few favorites (song, gum, dessert, tv show, weapon of mass destruction)
Larissa: Pizza, beer, fried cheese curds, cinnamon gum, country music, Independence Day (the movie,) Star Trek (in general,) zombie (favorite kind of apocalypse)

Katie: Where can folks find you in the coming months?
Larissa: Check your local insane asylum

Katie: Larissa's been through the drill before so lets get some Rapid Fire questions going! GO!

Katie: Country Side or Sea Side
Larissa: Sea!

Sharon: Crunchy insides or chewy insides
Larissa: You scare me

Katie: Creepy Attic or Creepy Basement
Larissa: Um...neither?

Sharon: Thunder or lightning
Larissa: (Well, technically, you can't have one without the other...yes, I'm a meteorologist. Obnoxious, I know...)

Katie: Singing in the car or Shower
Larissa: Car!

Katie: True Blood or Dexter
Larissa: True Blood!

Sharon: Speedboat or sailboat
Larissa: Speedboat

Katie: Star Trek Next Gen or Battlestar Galactia
Larissa: Star Trek TNG

Katie: D&D or Pathfinder
Larissa: D&D

Katie: Fae or Shifters
Sharon: aw, this one just isn’t fair!
Larissa: Shifters
Katie: haha I know Sharon, that would be like me asking you Shifters or Prime.

Katie: Cookie Crisp or Lucky Charms
Larissa: Lucky Charms!

Sharon: Fire magic or Water magic
Larissa: Fire

Katie: Larissa, as always it's been a pleasure. We love you and can't wait to see what you come up with next! Anything you'd like to add before we wrap?
Larissa: Thanks so much, ladies! Love you right back! Can't think of anything to add, but I appreciate the time you took to write up the questions and to be so great! Hugs!
