New Release: The Last Unforgiven: Cursed (Demons #4) by Marina Simcoe

The Last Unforgiven: Cursed (Demons #4)
by Marina Simcoe
February 27, 2020
131 pages
Every villain has a backstory.
A millennium is a dreadfully long time to walk the Earth, and memories that last a lifetime are doubly cursed for Raim, the longest-serving Grand Master.
Unlike the rest of the Incubi, he doesn’t get the oblivion of Deep Sleep. Instead, he lives through every day of each century, with vivid memories that torment him throughout the endless ages…
Of her, the only woman who ever stirred feelings in his heart.
Of him, the only Incubus who ever had his complete trust.
Of their betrayal, and the way he lost them both…

Every villain has a backstory.
This one is Raim’s.

Warning: The Last Unforgiven: Cursed is not a Romance. It’s the backstory of a villain. There is no HEA. He hasn’t earned it. Not yet.
Intended for mature readers.
About the Author:

Double Book Review: Raising Cain (The Key Guardians #1) by Kelli Ireland

Raising Cain (The Key Guardians #1)
by Kelli Ireland

Paperback, 378 pages
Published April 7th 2015
Hiding places are scarce when both Heaven and Hell intend to find you.

Dani Fayel’s backbreaking job as a stable hand at The Freaks’ Fair isn’t glamorous, but for someone looking to keep to the shadows? It’s perfect. Neither paranormal freaks nor human norms ever notice her. But when Dani is forced to either let a child die in order to maintain her anonymity or choose to save him and risk being discovered, she finds herself unwillingly thrust into the spotlight.

Cain, Hell’s premier assassin and a predatory incubus, is close to fulfilling his final contract and earning his freedom. Hired by the Archangel of Death to find his daughter, Cain follows her trail to the Fair. He works undercover, certain his mark is inside one of the portable canopies or traveling cages. Dead or alive, she equals his ticket to freedom.

When Cain’s objective is divulged, Dani realizes she can’t outrun her destiny. As the fabled Key—the one soul with absolute free will who is tied to the three realms of Heaven, Earth and Hell—only she is capable of opening the gates for the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. Whoever frees the Horsemen allegedly commands them. Now both Heaven and Hell are vying for her allegiance, and there are no limits as to how dirty they’ll fight to obtain it. With Hell raining indiscriminate chaos as Heaven maneuvers its players around her, Dani realizes her would-be assassin may be the only man capable of helping her survive.

Review by Jeanie G
The story caught my attention from the first chapter!

Dani is a very independent, snarky character that is easy to fall in love with for the reader. She shows great compassion with lots of moxie. Cain discovers that she is the "Key" he is seeking but is having trouble carrying out the contract and delivering her to her father Sahill of the underworld. He protects her through many harrowing battles and even helps her develop her Archangel talents by throwing her off a roof! Nice guy huh?

There seems to be many concurrent themes evolving in this book. Self preservation, friendship, loyalty, greed, power with a suggestion of sex and romance are a few. The first half of the story moved along at a great pace and developed the characters well. I was riveted by the story and couldn't put the book down. The second half became a little stagnant with many scenes of "capture, escape, battles, waiting, repeat" along with the introduction of new characters. At times I felt as if the story seemed to get lost in the action but the author does bring it home in the finale.

The ending leaves you thinking there will be more adventures for Cain and Dani coming in future episodes. The relationship of Dani and Cain is intriguing and makes you want to keep reading until you come to a "Happily Ever After" place!

I give this story 4 "hopeful" sheep

Review by Bianca Greenwood
In the world of this urban fantasy, paranormal creatures exit alongside humans. Select paranormal beings are on display to entertain the norms in ‘The Freaks Fair,’ a travelling circus of sorts that cashes in on human curiosity. Dani has enjoyed an insular, fairly anonymous existence as the fair’s stable hand; with secrets to keep she cannot afford to draw attention. But when Cain, the fair’s newest muscle-bound employee, starts to keep tabs on the introverted Dani, she is forced to confront some fantastic facts, quickly.

With her first book in this series, Ireland has created a fast-paced, entertaining hook for her readers. I don’t think anything particularly novel or inventive is occurring here, but the book is well crafted, the action non-stop, and the characters likeable. I devoured most of this book in one sitting. I liked Ireland’s colourful diction and dialogue and appreciated her well-written descriptions.

There is, however, a fine line between tension and frustration. I grew slightly weary of the Cain-Dani cat and mouse game. The pace of these characters’ relationship is at odds with the fast pace of the story’s action. The burgeoning relationship between Dani and Cain, along with a tonne of unanswered questions, poises readers to anxiously anticipate book two. I hope Ireland effectively capitalizes on the wave of anticipation and expediently releases book two. I wouldn’t want my friendly frustration to lead to forgetfulness.

About the Author:
Kelli Ireland has the heart of gypsy. She credits it to having lived all over the United States, from the West Coast to the East, from densely populated urban metropolises to a cattle ranch in very rural New Mexico.

When the Fates decided to clip the thread that had tied her to an office in corporate America for more than a decade, Kelli found herself with an immense amount of time on her hands. For two years, she hid from the world as she read All The Books. With her little house bursting at the seams, her husband bought her first an e-reader and, second, a laptop. “Write,” he said. “It used to make you happy.”

Kelli currently lives in the heart of the south where all foods are considered fry-able and bugs die only to be reincarnated in blood-sucking triplicate. It’s ironic, really, seeing as she hates the heat. Her house is occupied by two parrots (Cockatoo and African Gray, both of whom talk…incessantly), two dogs (a narcoleptic bullmastiff and a freakishly smart pound hound with anxiety issues), one Blue Russian terror and a Maine Coon cat to rule them all. Oh, and her husband. But really, they just live there to ensure the animals are tended to in the manner to which they’ve all become accustomed.

Guest Post: Claire Ashgrove: Inherited Damnation Series (book 2) BookTour + giveaway

Claire Ashgrove shares with us why she chose the Selgovae Celt tribe to write about and ponders what happened to them...

Why The Selgovae?
There are many different Celt tribes, some of which we’ve been able to learn a lot about through Archaeological records and historical accounts. Almost all of us have heard of the Brigantes, or Bodacai, and we’ve certainly been familiarized with the Picts. What we know of those tribes is fascinating and exciting, and using those would put, admittedly, another layer of relatability into the stories.

But the Selgovae intrigue me. They were mentioned once, and only once, in Ptolemy’s accounts. And most of what we know about the tribe is “educated speculation” based on what we know of the other tribes that have more accurate and documentable records. Which makes the Selgovae perfect for an author’s creativity. I can write, within bounds, anything I want to!

More than that though, the lack of documented history makes me question possibilities. Not just the paranormal ideas that are in Inherited Damnation, but more – what happened to these people? I created my own theory, which is actually supported by historical record, and as you read Inherited Damnation, you’ll find threads of fact written in. Like which tribe they joined with during the Roman invasions. What history is in Inherited Damnation, is accurate.

Which brings me to another question. Throughout all of history we find records of peoples who existed, but then… vanished. The Anasazi, the Maya, The Selgovae, (The Templars!), and Atlantis to name a few. What do you think happened to these advanced people, who seemingly fell off the face of the earth? Do you believe they were absorbed into other cultures, the occurrence of which not being important enough to document? Do you believe they were only here on earth…temporarily… and returned, somewhere else? Do you think they died out, their isolation leaving them with no one to record their last accounts? Let me know your thoughts! This subject fascinates me!

Spotlight: The Incubus Saga #1 by Amanda Meuwissen

Incubus (The Incubus Saga #1)
by Amanda Meuwissen

Paperback, 1st Edition, 371 pages
Published July 1st 2013 by BigWorldNetwork.com, LLC
Nathan only ever wanted a normal life, but for him, life, family, and love are anything but normal.

On the other side of the Veil, dark and light fae exist outside the knowledge of most humans. Nathan Grier was born human, but his twin brother Jim is a changeling. On the run since they were children, time for both of them is running out. Turning to fae hunter Sasha Kelly for help, Nathan must soon face his growing feelings for the other man while trying to save himself and his brother from a fate worse than death.

This series is an Urban Paranormal Fantasy/Gay Romance story that kicks off the beginning of an epic trilogy of love, family, and a fight to save the world.

Excerpt:
Sprinting was actually not the best way to describe Nathan's slogging and slipping through the mud, trying to avoid trees, rocks, and other nameless bits of nature which he did his best to baptize with expletives. It wasn't long before his breath was coming in harsh pants. He was fit, but he was carrying a good extra ten pounds of rain water soaked into his clothing and felt like he was running through quicksand.

Nathan was thankful when the pursuit brought him into a more heavily wooded, slightly elevated area. The going was a lot easier, but he still had to stop running to get a lead on the sounds of the golem over his own harsh breathing, the slap of wet clothing against his body, and the sucking noise of his feet in the mud.

He wasn't even really sure if he was gaining on the thing. It seemed to be moving on a course parallel to his. At least they soon started heading downhill, but that also meant that Nathan started to pick up speed.

Bursting out of the trees into a clearing, Nathan was moving faster than he could control. He saw two things very clearly. First, Sasha had just run into the clearing from the opposite side and was standing with his phone at his ear. For the life of him, Nathan couldn't understand why Sasha was staring transfixed at that part of the trees. Sasha was also breathing heavily, and combined with the cell phone might explain why he couldn’t hear Nathan yelling at him in warning.

Because the second thing Nathan saw was the golem hurtling across the clearing toward Sasha’s turned back.

Changeling (The Incubus Saga #2)
by Amanda Meuwissen

Paperback, 468 pages
Published June 10th 2014 by BigWorldNetwork.com
Nathan Grier’s dark fae bounty looms overhead. As he faces the very real threat of becoming a slave to the bounty’s owner, his brother Jim uses his changeling abilities more and more trying to save him. Every changeling throughout history turns evil once their powers manifest, meaning time may be running out for both of them as Jim nears True Awakening.

Fae hunter and incubus, Sasha Kelly, is prophesized to save Nathan, but while Nathan has embraced his feelings for the other man, he fears their time together will be cut short—either from his impending fate…or Jim’s.

Excerpt
“You have…what? Less than thirty years life experience? And you think you can beat almost two-hundred?” Faust sneered.

He had an arm hooking both of Nathan’s arms behind him, which made Nathan’s eyes water with the pressure on his injured shoulder. All of Faust’s weight was centered on a leg that was thrown over Nathan to keep him pinned to the floor.

“When you’ve seen what I’ve seen, touched magic and fae as much as I have, you start seeing everything differently,” Faust said. “Like being able to recognize a succubus and fool her senses. Or weave tapestries of memory just to steal a few meager years. The Veil is coming to an end, boy, and only an immortal will be able to keep up with the dark fae once they retake this world. They already have everything in motion. The chosen changeling has already been tapped. It is only a matter of time.”

Nathan felt a chill run through his body at the mention of the ‘chosen changeling’. His sore shoulder was screaming in pain, and he knew he was being self-conscious of the wounds on his chest, which was slowing him down.

“Ah, but you…I knew there was something about you,” Faust continued. “The house wouldn’t have taken you even if you had chosen the other door like your friends. Because the thing is…” Faust’s voice fell to a whisper beside Nathan’s ear, “…you can’t steal life from the damned.”

When Lambs attack: Erotic PNR author Jocelyn Dex - giveaway

Sometimes you never know what traumatic experiences people have suffered at the hooves of farm animals. Lucky for erotica PNR author Jocelyn Dex she wasn't emotionally scarred by her run in with an evil lamb. YES, they do exist! Read on if you dare... and when you are done check out her super smexy story about an incubus.

When I Smell Sheep agreed to have me guest post on their blog, I was totally excited and then I panicked. I scanned my brain for what to blog about and ultimately their logo inspired me.

I lived on a farm, when I was four, and guess what kind of animals we had on that farm. If you guessed sheep, you got it!

Being a huge animal lover, I loved bottle feeding the little lambs. It was totally awesome. But, there was one lamb that always had his grouchy-pants on. He hated everyone. He was the monster in my four-year-old nightmares.

As soon as you’d step through the gate, that little punk would run straight for you and violently ram his head into your legs while making deranged sheep noises. It was scary for a four-year-old and I’d run from him and scream the whole time.

One day, he chased me to the far end of the fence line and I made it to the other side before he could get me. He stood there, giving me the evil eye. Feeling cocky, with a barrier between us, I kicked at the fence. Big mistake!

My foot got stuck in the fence and I fell backward and the lamb had the last laugh. He head-butted my foot over and over and over until my mom heard my hysterical cries and came to free me. I swear I saw his eyes flash red; his fangs extend and heard him laugh cruelly at me.

We only lived on that farm for a year. I often wonder what happened to that lamb. Even though he terrified me, I like to think he grew up, felt remorse for being such a meanie to me, found a sexy sheep girlfriend, made deranged sheep babies and lived happily ever after.

When Kean wakes up naked, collared and locked in a cell, he knows thinking with his dick has finally gotten him into trouble. Part Incubus, Kean enjoys scorching sexual liaisons, a habit that has found him trapped, forced to help a Sempire rescue her daughter from certain death.

Unwilling to aid in anyone’s imprisonment, Araya initially refuses her mother’s “gift”, but the passion simmering between her and Kean is undeniable. As they explore their shared lust, both Araya and Kean enact schemes to save each other. Their best laid plans may awaken emotions that will bind them forever.
