Sharon: Hello,
and welcome to the Flock. We are going to talk vampires! A subject Katie here
loves…and by loves I mean obsessed.
Katie: *rolls
eyes* please! The doctors cleared me for doing interviews with vampire authors
again. By the way, did you bring one with you? *scoots a little closer to DN*
Sharon: You
are a new to me author so tell me and our audience *waves to the crowd in the
bleachers* about your new series The Dead War Series. There are vampires, but
what is the threat that is coming for us?!
Katie: tell us
about the vampires…names, numbers, ticklish spots? *scoots closer to DN*
Cassian is the master vampire of Chicago, which is the
city that is under attack first by the virus. He realizes that they have to
take immediate action against the zombies. Other vampires are introduced, each
with their own sexy and powerful personality. You'll love them or you may even
love to hate them.
Sharon: Would
you classify this as a horror? Is there a reluctance to use the horror label on books and use the “dark”
label instead?
D.N.: I would classify the Dead War series as a
horror/dystopian. The story is fast paced and terrifying. Gory and
action-packed. I don't have any reluctance to writing dark fiction. I love
creating stories so intense and horrific, that they grip you and don't let go. It's fun to read and
they're fun to write.
Katie: You
already have a successful vampire series out called The Knights of Darkness
Chronicles. Is there as much vampire sex romance in The Dead War Series?
*scoots a little closer to DN*
D.N.: LOL! The KOTDC is in a league of its own.
Unfortunately, there isn't much time for romance or sex in The Dead War series.
Things move so quickly, that our characters and the readers barely have enough
time to breathe before more danger comes their way. But who can say what future
books will bring? ;)
Sharon: When
the apocalypse hits what fictional character would like to have your back?
D.N.:Superman.
But which one!? |
Sharon: What
is your favorite video game at the moment? And if you could enter any video
game world which would it be?
D.N.:I'm loving Injustice: Gods among us, at the
moment. My favorite all-time video game is Final Fantasy 7. If I had to enter a
gaming world, I guess I'd pick Tekken and hopefully I can pick up some great
fighting skills.
Katie: If you
were an ice cream sundae what would be your toppings?
Sharon: What
are your plans for The Dead War Series? How many books? And are you done with
the Knights of Darkness Chronicles?
D.N.: I have no idea how many books I'm planning
for the Dead War Series. Wherever the story takes me. :D The Knights of the
Darkness Chronicles is complete. Each book builds on the last one and takes
readers on one hell of a ride.
Katie: Do
attend reader or multi-media conventions?
D.N.: I do when I can. I attended the RT Con when
it was in Chicago in 2012 and I'm planning on attending the Author/Reader con
in New Orleans in August 2014.
Sharon: You
wrote a great post on your experiences and thoughts on Self-publishing (link)
What method of marketing do you think works best for self pub authors?
D.N.: To be honest, I'm still trying to find that
spark. That spark that ignites reader interest in the author and her books.
Blog tours are awesome and I really enjoy doing them. Another thing that works
is interacting with potential readers and friends via Facebook.
Rapid Fire
Katie: Pepsi
or Coke?
D.N.: Pepsi
*Sharon does a happy dance till Katie throws a Coke can at her*
Sharon: trampoline
or go carts?
D.N.: Go carts.
Katie: popcorn shrimp or popcorn chicken?
D.N.: Popcorn shrimp
D.N.: Snowman
Katie: giggle
or snort?
D.N.: Giggle.
Sharon: cowboy
or C.E.O.?
D.N.: Cowboy.
Katie: Freddy
or Jason?
D.N.: Freddy.
Sharon: Simon
Says or Mother May I?
D.N.: Simon Says.
Katie: left or
right?
D.N.: Right.
Sharon:
cookies and milk or cookies dunked in milk?
D.N.: Cookies dunked in milk.
Katie: grits
or oatmeal?
D.N.: Grits.
Sharon: Woot! I had grits with dinner tonight...true story.
Sharon:
mountain hiking or beach wandering?
D.N.: Beach Wandering.

SciTech Labs was handsomely commissioned by the United States Military to design a revolutionary serum that would create the ultimate soldier. They would be stronger and more resilient, they would also be smarter and more alert. Last, but not least, they would be faster with more endurance. Everything was looking hopeful until an experiment went horribly wrong. The scientists mutated their specimen's DNA, turning into something monstrous. Now life as we know it will never be the same.
Those things are coming for us.
The entire world is in danger and our governments forces can't stop them. Humanity's only hope lies with...
The Vampires.
Can their supernatural abilities help save the human race, or is it the end? Can the human race survive being caught in a bloody war between two vicious predators?

I was born in the little, but big bustling city of Chicago, Illinois. I still live there today and I’m loving every second of it ... Except for those harsh cold winters. I started writing short horror stories when I was eleven years old. It wasn't until 2004 that I decided to take the plunge into the professional literary world when I wrote Desires Unleashed.
I love the supernatural world; I've always found it fascinating, especially vampires and shape-shifters. It was my love of the genre that motivated me to create the story I had always wanted to read. I published it, hoping there were other people out there who would be entertained by that same story. I love to entertain people, to offer them that fantasy world they can escape into filled with wonders and good times. I know I appreciate the escapism I've delved into when reading a good book.
Some of the accolades I've won for my writing are: "New Voice of Today" by A Romance Review, "Rising Star" by Love Romance and "Author of the Month" by Warrior of Words. I've been nominated two years in a row in several categories, including "best vampire novel" and "best urban-fantasy" at Love Romance and More. My third novel; The Royal Flush did win honorable mention in 2006.

Ooh, super zombies! I might have to give this series a try.
ReplyDeleteI don't really have a favorite yet. Besides, I fear if I named one aloud, s/he might get murdered. :)
ReplyDeleteI don't have a favorite character because I have not read any of DN's books. Sorry about that DN. This is the first I have heard of your super zombies and I must admit, I would like to meet them. LOL Awesome interview guys!
ReplyDeleteOh, I cannot answer that yet since I have not read all DN's books! I do love the Zombies!
ReplyDeleteRaphel is my favorite character so far by DN Simmons!
