Interview: Abigail Gibbs AUTUMN ROSE Blog Tour + giveaway

Today we have the charming Abigail Gibbs to talk about her Dark Heroine series, what kind of sexy can be found a Oxford University, and coffee!

Sharon: Hello and welcome to The Flock. Here are some moon pies and Kool-Aid. An American delicacy here in the south (okay, not really, but go with it). What did you bring from Oxford to share with us?
Abigail: Rain. Lots of rain.

Sharon: You are a new to me author so tell us a little about The Dark Heroine series? Is this young adult/new adult/adult? And would you classify this as horror?
Abigail: The Dark Heroine series is about a world where mythical beings and humans live side-by-side in multiple dimensions, but not entirely successfully. Alliances are breaking down, and the fragile peace enjoyed by most is at threat. Enter the Heroines: a group of nine women prophesized to rebuild relations. The series is about their journey of discovery: of their destiny; their power; and of love.

The series is crossover, and I would recommend it for young adults 16+ because it does contain sex, blood and rock n’ roll, except not the last one…

Some of the events of the book are horrific, but it’s not horror in the terror sense. More slightly-depressing-but-yay-love!

Sharon: Your success story is quite amazing. You were 15, writing a serial on Wattpad and an agent approached you! Do you remember what you were doing when you got the call/email? What did your parents think?
Abigail: I genuinely can’t remember when my agent approached me. That’s years ago now. But I found out the news about HarperCollins wanting to take my story on whilst on a train. The money they were talking was crazy and I shouted out loud in disbelief. I’m not sure the other passengers were too happy…

Sharon: You are currently a student at Oxford University. So of course our readers want to know are there any sexy vampires there? You don’t have to give names and numbers, but it would be helpful.
Abigail: If by vampire, you mean a soul-sucking, energy-draining, life-ruining kind of vampire, then my tutors fit the bill. There is plenty of sexy though. Lots of sexy. Much sexy. Mainly nerdy sexy, but there is definitely jock sexy, and rowing sexy, and future-Prime-Minister sexy. But I broke the mould and stole a graduate from ‘The Other Place’, Cambridge University. He’s physics-knowing sexy.

Sharon: Have you been to America? If so, what did you like/dislike? If not, what are you most interested in seeing/trying?
Abigail: No! I’d like to though, and put my best British accent on. I’d quite like to travel from coast to coast, and head to the Deep South as well, and see if society there is really as religious as it seems (something of a curiosity, because England has such a secular culture now) and go to a diner, and create a sort of intellectual, anthropological trip that involves food. Lots of food. I like food.
Sharon: *raises hand* I live in the south and yes, there is something called the Bible belt <G>

Sharon: If you could own any piece of art in the world what would it be?
Abigail: Adolphe Weisz’s L’Odalisque (1884).
Sharon: The sequel Autumn Rose has just released. Was she a character from book 1?
Abigail: Well deduced, Watson. Autumn briefly appears in Book 1 as the first Heroine, and we learn a little bit about her kind of dark being, the Sage. The sequel elaborates on her story and how she came to be a Heroine, whilst furthering the overarching story, and of course revisiting the vampires from Book 1…

Sharon: If you were a dog what breed would you be?
Abigail:A husky. I’m more of a cat (secret lion RAWR) kind of person though…

Sharon: You are also a vegetarian. What is your favorite dish to make/eat?
Abigail: If it’s got hummus on it, I’ll eat it. At the moment, one of the favourites is definitely vegetable tagine with pearl barley.

Sharon: If all the gargoyles in your area came to life what would you do?
Abigail: Nothing. I live in Oxford. There are more gargoyles than people and I think I’d be dead before I could even smash one with a book.

Rapid Fire:

Sharon: fried or baked?
Abigail: Baked.

Sharon: The Good Witch or The Bad Witch?
Abigail: Bad!

Sharon: sexy nerd or brooding rock star?
Abigail: Sexy nerd. Every time.

Sharon: planner or panster?
Abigail: Panster with planning tendencies.

Sharon: hand-gliding or scuba diving?
Abigail: I’ve been diving since I was 12!

Sharon: pony tail or braid?
Abigail: Pony tail.

Sharon: Thanks for taking time out of your busy study schedule. Is there anything you would like to say to our readers before you leave?
Abigail: Drink coffee. Always. (And become a fangster by following me about on twitter: @AuthorAbigailG Warning: contains moaning about essays, weather and Middle English).
Sharon: you are taking your rain back with you? Abigail...where did she go? *opens umbrella* sigh...
