Book Review: Taken by a Dragon (Eternal Mates #7) by Felicity Heaton

Taken by a Dragon (Eternal Mates #7)
by Felicity Heaton
Possessed by a need to save a beautiful Amazon warrior from the vision he witnessed, Loke snatched her from the midst of the battle between the Third and Fifth realm of the demons, and carried her to his home deep in the black mountains of Hell to protect her. But as the fierce little female awakens, he finds she’s anything but grateful, and his dragon instincts roar to life to warn she might be more to him than an enemy—she might be his fated female.

Anais remembers meeting a handsome warrior in the heat of battle, a man who was her enemy but who looked at her with eyes that held dark heat and wicked promises. When she wakes to find that same dragon shifter has taken her captive, desire is the last thing on her mind, but escaping him to return to Archangel, the hunter organisation she works for, sounds less than appealing when he reveals the reason he took her—to stop her from dying.

Can Loke protect Anais from the dangers of his realm and how far will he go to save her from the future he keeps witnessing? Can Anais resist the fierce attraction that burns between them as hot as fire and stay true to Archangel or will her heart be taken by the dragon? A psychic vision leads Loke the dragon to snatch warrior Anais away from the battlefield in order to save her life. When he reaches his home with the unconscious woman, he thinks she’s going to wake up and be grateful to him for saving her life. She’s not. From fighting to reluctantly working with the enemy, Anais slowly begins to fall for the dragon who saved her life, but her home is somewhere else and she’s not sure she wants to stay with Loke.

Getting back to what I, as a reader was familiar with, Taken by a Dragon reintroduces the connecting storyline from books one and two. Readers are taken back to the moment during a battle between the Third and Fifth Realms where human warrior Anais is snatched by a dragon and carried off. That marks the beginning of what I thought was a fun journey to another part of the world that author Felicity Heaton created while still staying connected to the characters and events in books 1 & 2. The continuity felt good and while I enjoyed the two previous books, I wanted to get back to this storyline, with these characters.

Loke, was adorably befuddled by Anais. They should have been enemies yet something in him pushed him to save her. Watching them fight and get to know each other balanced Taken by a Dragon out and had some fun moments. Their chemistry was interesting, going from enemies to allies to lovers to friends. Anais didn’t have any choice but to be twice as tough, intelligent and resilient given that she was human. She had some brass ones for sure. Standing her ground and making demands of a dragon? Then actually attempting to go hand to hand with one? She was both brave and reckless mixed with a little insanity. That’s typical Heaton style and that’s why her heroines are some of my absolute favorites. They don’t sit around waiting to be saved and they’re never outshined by the heroes, they’re equals and they’re fierce!

Taken by a Dragon delighted me as a reader, mostly because of the return to the battlefield and the larger plot that was started at the beginning of this series. Loke and Anais were a great couple and their story didn’t let me down. I can’t wait for the next book in the series, and I have my fingers crossed that the next hero is a certain elf warrior from book 1 that appeared briefly in Bitten by a Hellcat. *sigh* That character is one of my favorites.

Felicity Heaton is one of the top paranormal romance authors I’ve come across in all my years of reading the genre. If you haven’t given her books a try yet, now is the perfect time to do so!
