As a total cat person, it was my utmost pleasure to read Inkblot, Volume 1. Kubert and Gladd do an excellent job of setting up their world, delivering the backstory in an engaging and visually stunning manner, and providing a fun inciting incident with the creation of the cat, after which the time-travelling adventures begin. Their blurb nicely sums up what’s what, so let’s talk about my favorite bits of the volume.

1. The Cat!
What can I say? I love this mischievous, time-traveling, reality-bending critter. A simply drawn black cat, the dark color has it leaping out at you from the panels while at the same time it continually explodes with personality. Though all it can say, in true cat fashion, is “Mow,” this one simple sound conveys a universe of emotion. This is a testament to the stellar talent of the creators. They nailed the mystery of the species, and I eagerly turned pages to see what the crazy kitten would do next and where it would take us…

2. Time Travel
I’m always a fan of a good bit of, as the tenth Doctor says, a bit of “wibbly wobbly timey wimey stuff,” and thanks to the wanderlust of our feline friend, we’re moved through various points in time to bear witness to events, some with and some without the main character sorceress present. As the creators say, “the timeline is a ruin, as it would be if handled by the elastic moods of a cat,” and it is certainly entertaining to experience as a reader.

3. The Seeker, aka The Bookworm

Sister of the king Xenthos Voidbreaker, the Seeker is thousands of years old and tasked with recording the history and adventures of her many sorcerer siblings. She spends all her time in the library of the Living Castle, experimenting with and studying magic, and documenting and documenting and documenting… until one night she falls asleep, spills some ink, and voila! Instant cat! As a character, she’s both a competent narrator and a take-charge protagonist with some fun quirks, such as the way she swears. Instead of foul language, she busts out with amusing little ditties like “fairy farts” and “sweet suckleberries.”

4. Bonus Material: “Tales from the Kube”
At the end of the volume, there’s an extra story from Kubert & Gladd, detailing their collaborative process. It’s both a fascinating read and a visual delight. And yes, there’s more black-cat goodness, as well.

In short, dear comic readers, if you enjoy surreal, time-travelling fantasy tales with beautiful art - and cat! - this comic is for you.

Cait is no domestic kitty. As one of the rarest kinds of shifters, this hellcat isn’t about to have some random male collar her and use her as a breeding machine. After being chased for so long by a dangerous male hellcat, she’s had enough. She hires mercenary Owen Nightingale to “get rid of” her problem. The Nightingale family name has long been associated with shifter hunting and not mercenary work. Owen has built a solid reputation as someone not to be messed with but he can’t resist Cait’s plea and what starts off as a job ends up being so much more.

Holy Hellcats! They’re even more bad a** than your everyday cat shifter and Cait definitely backs up that claim. Cait may have needed Owen’s skills as a hunter to resolve her problem but that didn’t mean she sat back and let him do all the heavy lifting. While she was technically the damsel in distress, she didn’t act like it. She was more than willing to jump into a fight and kick some serious booty! You go girl! I loved her!

Secretive Owen is more than capable of handling Cait’s persistent suitor, yet I never felt that he developed a “Me man, you helpless woman” mentality (hate those men). He was always aware of Cait’s strength but he never forgot that she was also a woman he was attracted to. He had such a great balance of tough guy persona and yes, vulnerable human being. He was more than just “the muscle” in the story and that made him a lot more interesting than he seemed in the beginning.

Now for the smooching and sexy parts, you can’t have a Felicity Heaton book without some seriously hot scenes and Bitten by a Hellcat is no exception. The only difference is that I felt Cait and Owen’s romance took the back seat to the bigger problem of the male hellcat, which worked for me. If you had a dangerous hellcat after you with the intention of collaring you, thereby taking away your freedom 

wouldn't that be your first priority? I know it would be mine no matter how delicious the mercenary was! Heaton did a great job at creating those fast paced scenes where Cait and Owen are being pursued by their enemies too! I know I caught myself hyperventilating a couple of times with all the close calls they had.

The sixth book in Felicity Heaton’s Eternal Mates series seems to be a book all its own. There isn’t much of a connection between Bitten by a Hellcat and the previous books except for a scene towards the end which features one of my favorite secondary characters from the first book. Talk about having your curiosity piqued! Each of the previous books had its own special magic that I couldn’t get enough of and Bitten by a Hellcat certainly joins that club.

If you do happen to read Bitten by a Hellcat, please let me know if I’m the only one who pictured Cait’s hellcat form like a character from Pokemon will you? Cause I totally pictured one when she shifted.

REVIEW: 

Dragon Heart is an awesome opening to a new PNR world from author Susan Arden. I was  drawn into this world of alpha-male dragon shifters and couldn't wait to read what would happen next!   

Drake is one smoking hot male, no really he can breath fire. Yikes. But it's all worth it when he falls for the wildly fun Shay. She's a bit too naive at times and it gets her into some hot water. This aspect of her bugged me, but that aside she was well written and had plenty of heart. Living a sheltered and pampered life can do that though, so I brushed off those bits and kept going. 

There's tons of entertainment in this story and in-depth dialog, so if you like character interaction you wont be disappointed! Attention to details and setting a stage are all displayed in each chapter. Susan makes you feel like you're right in the mix with each scene!  

Things get heated up between these two love birds, so hold on and get ready for the romance! Overall, this was a very satisfying read that had me rushing to the end!

“Do you have the slightest inkling of what you’re asking for … I’m an alpha dragon, Shay.”

Even if her experience was nil, sex was sex. Sure Drake was frickin’ hot. Sex with him was probably off the charts … but still sex. Wasn’t it?

She stammered, “We’re not mating. So you’re wrong about lasting out the full moon. We can do it once. We’re hardly two shifters falling head over heart hard. No one said anything about you claiming me as your mate. As long as you keep your fangs clear of my neck, we’re kosher. Okay?”

He stared back at her like she’d just announced she had the power to walk through walls. “Shannon, there are still irrefutable issues. This is a no-win situation for both of us,” he whispered, closing his eyes as though that might sever the bond between them.

“Why?” she demanded. “Because you served under my dad a million years ago. So what? And now, who gives a rat’s ass if you work for my parents? I’m not looking for forever, just once.”

He opened his eyes; fire and heat swirled in their depths. “Is that what you’re telling yourself or trying to get me to believe? What would you have me do? You don’t understand the gravity of us in bed. We’d be on the run. Penniless.”

“I get that this is going to torrentially rain on some plans. I don’t care about the money. I’ve got my own destiny.”

“Kitten, with your Prada purses, designer lattes, and chauffeur driven Bentley, how far do you think you’ll get without your daddy’s credit card? Ever made your own bed, fixed your own meal … shot a gun?”

Her eyes widened. “Stuff. Details. I’m not afraid.”

“Your parents—hell, the justice councils on two continents would hunt us down. Not to mention Shawn and Richard. Collectively your brother and father will go ballistic.”

What Drake said had a sliver of truth, but eventually Mom and Dad would get over her not marrying Dimitri. And the justice councils didn’t matter diddly-swat. She and Drake weren’t breaking any laws. In six months, this would blow over and la-de-da, everyone would forget about this idiot idea of using her as leverage to join forces with the Mediterranean Council. Let them find another leopardess to broker—someone who actually had political aspirations. She would be happy, single, and have her accounting career. And Shawn, he’d understand. They were close as siblings—felt each other’s life force.

No way she’d marry Dimitri. This was her life—her way. A one night fling and voilà. That was her happy ever after, minus the lovey-dovey goo. Getting hitched—in love or not—was so not her plan. Leave that to the other leopardess shifters in her family.
