Book Review: The Demon's Daughter

paranormal romance, demons, cover
The Demon's Daughter (Demon Outlaws #1)
by Paula Altenburg

Hunter is the only man capable of killing the demons that left the
world in ruins. But when he’s hired by a notorious priestess to bring
a thief to justice, the Demon Slayer gets more than he bargains for.

Airie was raised in an abandoned temple as a priestess’s daughter,
having no idea of her true origins. In a time when any half-breed
spawn of a demon is despised by mortal and immortal alike, not knowing
the truth is the only thing keeping her safe.

Forced to flee her home in the wake of disaster and discovery of who
she is, Airie must place her trust in a man who believes she should
never have been born. And when a demon uprising threatens lives he has
sworn to protect, Hunter has to make a choice: abandon Airie to an
uncertain fate, or overcome his own personal demons and love her for
who she truly is.

The priestess has ordered Airie to be captured. Contracted to capture and bring the half-demon to justice, Hunter is more than happy to oblige. As a demon slayer, it is his job to protect the innocent and hunt down and kill the hated demons that are trapped in the world. Hunter is unaware of the why the priestess wants the demon spawn and sets out to find her and bring her in.

Airie has no idea who or what she is. Raised in seclusion, she knows her past has many secrets and she begins to question who her parents really are. She is different than any other demon creature. She is loved by everyone around her and exceptionally beautiful. Airie has abilities she never knew about and has to learn how to use her powers. She also learns who she really is and what she is meant to do.

The author did a wonderful job building this story line. With well-rounded characters with many different traits and personalities, the story is really more about Airie than Hunter which was okay, because I really liked Airies character. Hunter is the aggressive type, which I love! I was expecting to get a hot and juicy love story out of this book but it was not really there. There were tender moments between Airie and Hunter that were sweet.

It is so hard for me not to give spoilers and just go on and on about what happens… I will say there are lots of twists and turns in the story that held my attention. I literally could not put this down until I reached the very end. One thing I will say is that it makes a person really think about what good and evil really means. The author created a world with an interesting story line which is unique and overall very well written. I am really looking forward to the next book in the series.

The story did not quite reach a 5 out of 5 for me because I would liked to have had just a little more hotness in the love scenes.
