Mad Mab, Fairy godmother from Hell
My Shadow books are each a dark, twisted take on a fairy tale, and Soul Kissed, book two in my Shadow Kissed series is no different. I went with Cinderella, and I had a great time with the fairy godmother. Insane, perverse, giddy, wicked—she’s a megalomaniac with access to limitless power. What’s not to like?
I rejected Disney’s bibbidy-bobbidy-boo, the sweet grandmother, entirely. She might spin a good dress and shoes out of nothing, but she’s got no edge. No sense of what her powers could really do.
I found my first inspiration on Deviant Art (click to see, as I don’t have rights to the image). I printed her out and taped her to the wall above my desk. Feels like she’s looking in on the world, a little (or a lot) crazy. You don’t quite know what she’s capable of, and I love that about her.
Also, Shadow Bound (book one in my original Shadow series) is FREE on Amazon and iTunes ($0.99 on Nook). And Shadow Fall (book two) is $0.99 everywhere through the end of my blog tour.

A halfway decent runner up is LOTR’s Galadriel gone crazy when offered the One Ring, but she lacks a sense of humor. I almost wish she had taken the ring just to see what her world would be like. Yes, “All shall love me and despair!” sounds pretty intense, but I’m curious all the same.
To a random reader who answers my question, I’m giving away a Maleficent doll.

Now here’s the question: What’s your favorite fairy tale villain or villainess? Mine is Maleficent (I pray Angelina Jolie does her justice).

Any fairytale? Hmmm. Jafar probably. Aladdin is my favorite movie :3
ReplyDeleteLOL Jafar is pretty cool. He has the same tall, sweeping lines as Maleficent. I like the curly beard on his chin. :)
ReplyDeleteUrsula. Who doesn't love a villain with tentacles.
ReplyDeleteYeah, Ursula is great. She has an almost unequaled flair for melodrama. Poor unfortunate souls!
ReplyDeletewell Maleficent cause anyone that can turn into a dragon works for me .
ReplyDeleteThe dragon is amazing. She's an easy fave, right?
DeleteMaleficent has always been my favorite villaness. I even have a t-shirt with her likeness on it. Ursula from Little Mermaid comes in a close second, but all those tentacles, yuck!
ReplyDeleteGoing to check Maleficent t-shirts right now....
DeleteMine would be Cruella De Vil. She was one sick "puppy" if you know what I mean.
ReplyDeleteJust replied... but seems it didn't come thru. Hmmm...
DeleteExcellent pun. And agreed.
Maleficent was always the best female villain. I always kinda liked her because she made evil look cool, lol. My other was from a book series and very old movie, The Black Cauldron. The evil Horned King from it was the first villain that ever really freaked me out as a little kid.
ReplyDeleteI read The Black Cauldron when I was a kid! I forgot all about it, so thank you for mentioning it here. It would be perfect for mine now. :)
DeleteMy favorite villain is Gaston from Beauty and the Beast. He's a chauvinist.
ReplyDeleteI've got a blog post in the Soul Kissed tour with Gaston where he's inciting the mob. He is so deliciously vain!
DeleteCruelly DeVille is the all time nasty. How evil do you have to be to make a puppy coat?
ReplyDeleteYeah, she's a nasty, but not a fave b/c of the coat. Besides, if the limit to her evil aspirations is a puppy coat, then she really lacks imagination.
DeleteMine has always been the witch in Hansel and Gretel. I can't think of another villain that is quite as awful as that witch..I mean eating kids..dang. lol
ReplyDeleteAnd luring with the candy house was brilliant. HOWEVER, I think she'd do better if her house had been made out of pizza or tiramisu or vinegar chips (all faves of mine). :)
Deleteor make her house a gaming place. Come in and play all the video games you want! She can feed them and they would sit there and get fat... that would be the modern version :)
DeleteGaston from Beauty and the Beast...Made to be cute but evil!!!!
ReplyDeleteHe does know how to strike a pose. :)
DeleteI got to put in my two cents for bad villian from Disney... Scar! He murdered his brother then blamed it on poor Simba!
ReplyDeleteSCAR! Oh yes. He was bad all the way through. Excellent addition, Sharon!
DeleteFrom classic fairy tales, The Snow Queen because she not only is in the Hans Christian Anderson fairytales but she is also prevalent in Japanese ghost and demon stories. BUT Disney??? Shan Yu because I actually find him HOT, bad boy HOT! The one bad boy in comics I had the hots for!
ReplyDeleteShan Yu from Mulan.
DeleteMaleficent I love her! She is the perfect villainess. She is just misunderstood. Lol!
ReplyDeleteLady Tremaine!!
ReplyDeleteThe Shadow Man!!! From Frog Princess, that dude is FREAKY!!!
ReplyDeleteBut I love all the songs in that movie and who could resist the little firefly guy. He just wants to be with his Evangeline *le sigh*
Thanks for coming by to play with the Sheep Erin! xoxoxox
Wicked witch of the west :)
ReplyDeleteFor me is the evil queen from snow white. :D
ReplyDeleteOkay, my favorite is She Go from the Disney Channel cartoon Kim Possible. I want to be her when I grow up....LOL
ReplyDeleteOh I love Cruelly Deville... but I think the Maleficent would be a close second!!!!
ReplyDeleteand it would help if I could spell right!! Cruella GGZZZZ
DeleteUrsula from Little Mermaid =)
ReplyDeleteMaleficent was one of the best, followed by Cruella DeVille
ReplyDeleteI love Maleficent because she can turn into a dragon.
ReplyDeleteHades
ReplyDeleteMy favorite villain/ villainess (though I have a spot for all of them) would have to be the Red Queen from Alice in Wonderland, the original cartoon though I also enjoyed Tim Burton's version.
ReplyDeleteOkay, I'm clueless on maleficient. Where's she from again? Gotta search her now..
ReplyDeleteFave villain, don't have a fave but i like red queen and snow queen.
she is the fairy that cursed Sleeping Beauty!
DeleteNo wonder i don't remember! It's been years since i watched sleeping beauty.. makes me want to watch it again
DeleteI have to go with the person who said Gaston. I loved him. :) I got Shadowbound the other day, it looks really good. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteMaleficent is my favorite!!
ReplyDeleteLord Farguaad from Shrek cracks me up:)
ReplyDeleteGaston from Beauty and the Beast. Thanks for the giveaway.
ReplyDeleteI would have to say The Shadow Man from The Princess and the Frog. As Prince Naveen says, "He was very charismatic!" :-)
ReplyDeleteCinderella ..thanks
