Book Review: Lucky Son of a Gun (The Demo Accords Book 19) by John Conroe

Lucky Son of a Gun (The Demon Accords Book 19)

Mack Sutton is a normal guy who just happens to attend a very abnormal school. In a college where the pretty girls can kill you with a whisper and most of the guys can bench press a car, Mack and his sister Jetta are just run of the mill people -- or are they? Formerly printed as a Kindle Vella, this is a novel of the Demon Accords that gives a glimpse into the lives of the only non-supernatural kids in College Arcane.

Mack Sutton and his sister Jetta attend a school for supernaturals and are the only two students who are considered normal or nonmagical, yet they are the luckiest people ever. Is it simply a case of luck or is it something more? Mack has been known as a player with the women but after a very bad experience where he was tricked by a demon, he hasn’t been dating anyone. Cue beautiful witch girl, Veronica. He’s not sure if he’s scared of her or just really into her but everyone else can see they are clearly into each other.

One of the things I really enjoyed about Conroe’s books is the underlying meanings. Often his books in some way reflect what’s going on in the real world or what could soon be happening in the real world, and I find it interesting to see his take on things. In this series I don’t think you can even have a favorite character because each book makes a character your favorite.

From the Demon Accords Universe: meet Katrina Westing. One of Tatiana Demidova's fixers, deadly fighter, borderline psycho. She can make personnel problems literally disappear. Turned at age twelve, trapped in a child's body for 170 years, rescued from personal hell by Chris Gordon. This is her story.

Amazon

Katrina Westing is one of Tatiana’s fixers, one she can send on a mission where stealth or violence is necessary, and she always delivers. Katrina was turned at the age of 12, a taboo in the Darkkin world, but with the help from others in the vampire world she was able to survive and thrive. She is one who in today’s modern world may be termed a sociopath or a psychopath as she doesn’t feel the emotions as most do.

This was a story that needed telling. It gives insight into how the Darkkin view themselves and the rules they have. It tells how if someone was given the chance, a person can thrive in a new environment, and it might just save their life. Katrina has been around in the series, but I really enjoyed getting to know her more.

Book Review: The Book of Levi (Formerly published as the Kindle Vella Demon Accords Beginnings) by John Conroe

The Book of Levi (Formerly published as the Kindle Vella Demon Accords Beginnings)

How do you raise a boy who can bend reality with his mind? How do you keep him level-headed, sane and good? Raising any child is a tremendous undertaking, let alone one blessed by the goddess herself. Levi Guildersleeve, retired soldier and successful collector of rare books finds himself as the only male role model of the most powerful witch ever born. This is a prequel story of the childhood of Declan O'Carroll, as told by Levi.

The Book of Levi was previously published as the Kindle Vella Demon Accords Beginnings which is a prequel story of Declan O’Carroll’s childhood from Levi’s perspective.

Ashling has raised Declan since his sister was killed when he was just a young boy. Ashling, Darci, and Declan are very wary of strangers and Levi was no exception. Levi trades in rare books and has a touch of the sight. Through rumors and such he decides to visit Rowan West and check out the food, the bookstore as well as the owner. What he finds is so much more than he ever expected. It takes some time for Ashling to decide she can trust Levi and hires him to teach Declan Krav Maga. Through the years, we learn things that made Declan the man he becomes, more about what Ashling can do and about Levi himself.

This was a book I loved reading. I don’t usually love a prequel because I hate going back to the beginning and reliving things I already know but this one was needed and written so it didn’t seem like you were just rereading a previous book.

Book Review: Blood Cull (A novel of the Demon Accords Book 18) by John Conroe

by John Conroe
Sept 2, 2022
Pages: 379
Before the end, there is often change, and change can be very painful. Declan and Stacia come face-to-face with the most powerful elemental of them all, one with the power to eliminate mankind before the Vorsook ever show up. It’s time to confront his destiny, and decide what it means to be the most powerful witch of all time.

Blood cull brings us face-to-face with some real dire situations for Declan, Stacia and all of humankind. Declan and the team strategize on how to survive a Vorsook attack which is imminent when the most powerful elemental of all the elementals shows up and changes everything. One thing is for sure, if humans and the supernatural don’t work together, there will be no planet left.

I have been Conroe’s books for years and I have to say this one might be the best one yet. It challenges readers to think about where our world is right now and many of the social, political, and world events are front and center in this story. This book is so well written. It’s thoughtful but yet the story is still excellent, and the book is a breeze to read. I look forward to seeing what the next book in the series brings.

Book Review: Blood Drawn (A novel of the Demon Accords – Book 17) by John Conroe

Blood Drawn (A novel of the Demon Accords – Book 17)
by John Conroe
September 2, 2021
Pages: 368
Demon Accords number 17. Chris Gordon and Tanya Demidova are the world's top close quarters battle experts. As fast and powerful as elder vampires, with supernatural weapons that match their supernatural speed, strength and senses. But how does a close-quarters warrior fight an enemy that is literally light years away -- 25,000 light years away?

It would take one hell of a ranged weapon, something that can cross unimaginable distances with unfathomable power. Something... or... someone. Hmm, but witch is best?

The world is trying to believe that aliens will attack and destroy everyone and everything. The Vorsook are intelligent beings who conquer worlds for their resources and have amped up their strategy to avoid being stopped by Chris, Tanya, Declan, and the rest of the team.

Declan’s power has grown exponentially and even Chris and Tanya are shocked at some of the things he can do. Governments are afraid of him, but can the world be saved without him and his elementals? Declan is the type of person you would want your kids to grow up to be. He is quiet, thoughtful, respectful, and doesn’t let power go to his head. It doesn’t hurt that Stacia; his werewolf mate keeps him in check if things seem to be going out of control.

Chris and Tanya are front in center with aliens, people, and governments still trying to use their family members against them. One thing that they forget is that Chris and Tanya are very powerful all on their own but that their team is the best ever seen to thwart these kinds of attacks but the team can’t be everywhere at the same time.

Book Review: Darkkin Queen (A novel of the Demon Accords – Book 16) by John Conroe

Darkkin Queen (A novel of the Demon Accords – Book 16)
by John Conroe
May 30, 2020
Pages: 335
Book 16 of the Demon Accords. Tatiana Demidova - natural born vampire, Coven royalty, fighter, CEO, mate of the God Hammer, Fallen Angel... mother. She wears many hats, balances diverse duties, multi-tasks like any other woman, except most of those don't face demons from Hell, monsters from Fairie, alien invaders, or pissy world leaders. Follow Tanya through a week of her busy life as she works to save the her children, her mate, her friends, stockholders and the very world, in that order.

Darkkin Queen is set in the perspective of Tanya which is something we haven’t seen a lot of in this series and it was refreshing to see things through her eyes. The most important thing in her life, next to her Chosen is her kids. When the powers of the world decide that threatening those closest to her will help them achieve their goals the aftermath could be world ending.

Declan and Stacia have become a vital part of saving the world from the Vorsook, if the governments of the world, Fairie, and their own team doesn’t alienate them from the mission than there might be a chance of saving most of the humans on the planet. As Declan’s powers have grown so has his concern on how they are used. Omega, however, has no qualms about taking over countries if they aren’t going to play nice with others which is somewhat concerning to the team.

The Demon Accords series has grown over the years and is still one of my ultimate favorites.

Book Review: Web of Extinction (Zone War Series Book 3) by John Conroe

Web of Extinction (Zone War Series Book 3)
by John Conroe

Pages: 382
The finale to the Zone War series. Alone and weaponless, with a remote-controlled bomb in his neck, Ajaya Gurung must plan and fight better and harder than ever before. The last Spider is out there, in the Zone, plotting the end of man, and man is ignoring the danger. Left with only his skills, wits and courage, he must adapt and overcome before it's too late. If only he had an ace in the hole... oh wait... he does!

In the final book of the Zone War series, everything finally comes to a head. Ajaya and Rikki must figure out how to stop the final Spider before it finds a way out of the Zone to end mankind. Even though Ajaya has done everything in his power to stop the Spider, the public and the government aren’t taking his warnings seriously so the only thing he can do is something drastic that might get him killed.

Even though this series takes place in the near future, the reality of it is that this series is so very real. Humanity is becoming more reliant on technology in today’s age and it is unknown what the future could bring with these advancements. Zone Wars could be humanity’s reality in the future or maybe not that’s the fun in reading this unique and well-written series.

Book Review: C.A.E.C.O. (A novel of the Demon Accords – Book 15) by John Conroe

Demon Accords book 15. Combat is literally her middle name, Chimeric Adaptive Enhanced Combat Operator, but now Caeco Jensen works for the FBI, building a new life and trying to learn from a painful past. It’s hard to fit in when you are one of a kind, but maybe, just maybe, there’s a place for her in this world. That is if threats from off planet don’t ruin it first. Forging and protecting a new future with a her unique skillset won’t be easy, maybe almost as hard as making new friends.

Caeco hasn’t been around in the recent books of the demon accords series, and Conroe brings her back front and center in book 15 of the series. Caeco is a unique individual, who was raised in a lab and is a Chimeric Adaptive Enhanced Combat Operator. Lately, she has been putting her skills to work for the FBI and is hoping that her new SAC will listen to her instincts and use her abilities to help the team achieve their objectives.

A new mystery character is introduced in the story, that leaves Caeco thinking twice about many aspects of her personal and professional life. She is the outsider of the team, with special skills, her ability to talk with Omega and her connections with Declan and others from the school she struggles to fit in. Caeco and her team want to stop the aliens from destroying the earth and each member struggles to accept the help that Omega can offer them as well as the President of the United States. The character development and individuality that each received makes this book another winner.

Book Review: Borough of Bones (Zone War Series Book 2) by John Conroe

Borough of Bones (Zone War Series Book 2)
by John Conroe

Pages: 287
Zone War 2. Ajaya is back in the Zone again - training soldiers to survive the unsurvivable, and using his time inside to hunt for answers of his own. And what he finds reaches far, far outside Manhattan. Human life has been extinguished from the Zone, but what's brewing there is far from satisfied. Racing to contain the danger, Ajaya must protect his own from threats in every direction, both outside and inside the deadliest Borough on the planet.

In the second book of the zone war trilogy Ajaya is training solders to try to survive in the zone. The challenges that he faces as a young instructor is something that many of us can relate to at one time or another in our life. Ajaya also wants to know the truth about something he thought he saw in the zone and digging into this may bring more danger to him and his family then the zone does every time he enters.

At first when I started reading book 2 I thought it wasn’t as fast paced and exciting as book 1, little did I know that patience is a virtue and the best was yet to come. This book is so well written and Conroe does a tremendous job of painting a picture of what our future could hold with technology and the greed of the human race.

Book Review: Zone War (Zone War Series Book 1) by John Conroe

Zone War (Zone War Series Book 1)
by John Conroe
August 29, 2018

A few short years from now, eco-terrorists unleash the worst attack the world has ever seen. Over 25,000 autonomous combat drones are released in Manhattan from the hold of a ship. Hundreds of thousands are dead, and the entire island is evacuated and quarantined in just a few days’ time.

Ten years later, Manhattan is still empty of humans, with the exception of the salvage specialists of the most watched reality show in history: Zone War. Produced live and unedited, the show follows five teams of armored vehicle specialists who brave the active drones to recover lost riches and collect bounties on dead ones. Ram it, slam it, grab the goods and bull your way back out. And don’t break down, because no one will be coming to your aid. Armored entry is the way to go… Unless…

Meet Ajaya “AJ” Gurung, sniper’s son, drone technician and Zone infiltrator. Following his father’s footsteps while forging ahead in ways all his own, AJ has the potential to be the most successful recovery specialist of all time. The drones are changing, the rules have been thrown out and nothing about the Zone is what it seems. Adapt or die.

In the near future, Manhattan is attacked with over 25,000 autonomous combat drones that were released by eco-terrorists and hundreds of thousands of people are killed. The entire island has to be evacuated and quarantined to keep the number from rising. Ten years after the attack and the drones are still controlling Manhattan.

The only people who venture onto the island are salvage specialists. A popular reality show, called Zone War is produced live and unedited which follows teams of armored vehicle specialists into the area to recover lost riches without being killed by the drones. AJ, who was raised as a sniper, is a drone technician and Zone salvage person. He is the most successful recovery specialist that has ever went into the Zone and this brings unwanted attention his way.

Conroe has branched out with his new series Zone War’s and it is every bit as good as his Demon Accords series. Imaginative artificial intelligence mixed with a bit of possible romance and death brings a new adventure for Conroe fans to enjoy. AJ is the type of character that is humble and has no idea how special his skills are. His family is likeable and relatable which adds to the appeal. If you like Terminator or any robot books or movies really, you will enjoy this.

Demon Divine (A Novel of the Demon Accords #14)
by John Conroe
January 2, 2019
Pages: 303
Something unholy is hunting the streets of Burlington, Vermont, stalking the campus of the local university. Chris Gordon and his contingent of demon hunters is drawn to the northern Vermont city by a brutal murder of hellish proportions, ready to banish it from Earth.

But this Hellion is direct from the Abyss, incarnate and fully possessed of all the powers of high Hell royalty – female royalty at that. It’s been said that the female of the species is deadlier than the male, and this one might be the deadliest of all.

How do you flush out such dangerous prey without recreating the chaos that befell Washington such a short time ago? The answer: bait. The bait: Declan O’Carroll, witch prodigy with powers so sweet it’s like candy for the Devil’s own. Can Chris and company catch this monster before any harm comes to their friend and colleague? Or will Hell have its way? Can they see all the angles or does this Abyss bitch have the edge?

An incarnate demoness is hunting in Burlington, Vermont, and Chris and his team head to the Arcane School and the local university to find and destroy this creature from the Abyss. Female demon royalty is considered the most dangerous of demons and their powers of deception rival the males of the species.

It appears that this deadly demoness is hunting Declan for unknown reasons and the team decides the best way to draw her out is to use Declan as bait. Stacia and Omega, who are both overprotective of Declan are keen on the idea but know it is the right way to go. Meanwhile, Tanya, Galia, and Lydia are summoned to Europe to represent Senka, who is facing a threat from the Coven. It is hard to know which character in this series is the most important or even favorite when all are well developed and likable. Conroe has been able to continue this series magnificently by continuing to create new avenues for readers to discover and love.

Book Review: The Demon Accords Compendium Vol. 2 (Stories from the Demon Accords Universe) by John Conroe

The Demon Accords Compendium Vol. 2 (Stories from the Demon Accords Universe)
by John Conroe
May 13, 2018
Pages: 77
Volume 2. Four more stories set in Amazon bestselling author John Conroe's Demon Accords universe: the mind of a mind reader, babysitting the supernatural, packing up, and what's it like to be a queen. More fun for fans of the Accords with set up for the series story arc.

In volume 2 of The Demon Accords Compendium back stories continue for the demon accords universe.

It starts out with Lost Souls, which features Nika, the resident telepath who follows a man who kidnapped a baby. What she finds is a Vorsook, a very powerful alien who can control the minds of almost anyone. Hoping that she can block the alien from taking over her mind she is in for the fight of her life.

Sitting Pretty follows Toni, as she babysits the twins and tries to take them out for a peaceful walk on a beautiful day. As with most things in the Demidova life, nothing is ever as easy and peaceful as one hopes. The twins powers are still a mystery, but insights begin to emerge in this exciting tale.

Pack is All takes place right before Sitting Pretty and takes place between the New York Pack Alpha’s and Declan, who much to the alpha’s dismay has slighted them and the pack by interfering in pack business. Declan, however, feels that as Stacia’s mate he has the right under pack to law to use all resources at his disposal to protect his mate and any family they have down the road. This is a pivotal point for Declan, Statia and Holly and where they may go in the future.

Finally, the compendium finishes up with Queen of the Night which is done from Tanya’s point of view and a trip to Orlando and Disneyland. A demon portal is found in Orlando and needs to be closed. Chris plans a trip to Disneyland for the entire crew to check out the portal and hopefully close it. A glimpse of what we might expect in the Conroe’s next demon accords book is seen here.

Book Review: The Demon Accords Compendium (Stories from the Demon Accords Universe) by John Conroe

The Demon Accords Compendium (Stories from the Demon Accords Universe)
by John Conroe
April 29, 2018
Pages: 131
Now in an exciting group of stories from the Amazon bestselling Demon Accords series find out how it all started - from another pair of eyes. How to raise a God Touched exorcist. Extracurricular college fun. What do you get the vampire who has everything - excitement. Four stories from the Demon Accords Universe starring some favorite characters and introducing a new one. Novella length fun.

Conroe has put together the first volume of stories that give you a glimpse into the demon accords universe from another perspective.

The first story gives Lydia’s insight into Chris and Tanya meeting for the first time. It was fun to see it from her side of things not to mention it’s always nice to revisit the beginning of this love story.

The second story is the story of Chris from his grandfather’s eyes when he was about 15 years old. Chris and Alex get called in to search and rescue a couple of fishermen who have gone missing. The insight into what Alex feels for Chris and how Chris handles demon hunting close to when it all started for him was a story worth including in this book.

The third story gives us a glimpse into the werewolf pack. Keitan is accompanying a friend camping and one of the guys with them is giving off a very strange vibe. Quick thinking maybe the only way the group survives the night.

Finally, the compendium finishes up with a few character favorites. Arkady is bored and decides to mess with Declan only to find that Lydia is not at all impressed. These leads Arkady to question his honor and purpose on this earth.
