Book Review: Kept (The Enforcers #3) by Maya Banks

Kept (The Enforcers #3)
by Maya Banks
Paperback, 368 pages
Published October 25th 2016 by Berkley
From the author of Mastered and Dominated comes the third Enforcers novel—the searing story of a woman who finds sanctuary in surrender...

He can’t change who he is...

A horrific childhood has made Silas the man he is today: dangerous, distrustful, and demanding. He’s lived in self-imposed solitude, convinced that no woman could ever accept his need for absolute control—in business and pleasure. That is, until a young violinist walks into one of his buildings and into his life.

She can’t change what she wants...

Haley has been struggling to fulfill her father’s dying wish: to attend a prestigious music school in New York City. But even working two jobs, she can’t afford the tiniest of apartments. Seeing her hopeless and near tears, Silas vows to help and protect her, no matter the cost to himself. But when Haley meets his every demand with unwavering acceptance and love, he is overwhelmed by her goodness and gentle spirit. He knows that the dark stain on his soul can never be erased—and rather than risk destroying the most beautiful thing he's ever experienced, he knows he'll have to do the hardest thing he's ever had to face. Let her go. But he's totally unprepared for the lengths Haley will go to fight for his love and a future brighter than the sun.

Hayley’s fathers dying wish was for Hayley to attend the most prestigious music school in New York City. Hayley has been doing everything she can to keep that wish, working multiple jobs, attending limited classes to work those jobs and practicing late into the night after her late shift just to make ends meet and keep that wish. She’s now at her wits end, she has to leave her apartment in just a few days and she has nowhere to live or any place she could afford anyway. She was in near tears when Silas saw her, his heart immediately leapt out and he had to help her, protect her anything to make sure he did not see that sadness again. In a matter of minutes his life changed. Her heart so pure and accepting of him he could not stand for her to know how dark his soul was. Could she accept him if she knew, he did not give her a chance. He could not destroy her purity, her acceptance of who she thought he was so he had no choice but to let her go in the end and take his heart with her. However Hayley maybe pure and good but she is also strong and knows what she wants. She does not make it easy.

The Enforcers series is one of my favorites. Banks can take the most dangerous darkest of men and bring them emotionally down on their needs for the woman they love. You feel the raw emotion in them. Kept was no different. Silas’s soul runs the darkest, he kills without a second thought and without emotion. It’s his job. The main men in the Enforcer series all have one thing in common, they were dealt a raw deal; a sucky child hood. They are at heart good men. It is almost as if the universe made up for the original raw deal and sent them pure good woman to make them whole again. Hayley was exactly that for Silas, he saw the light again the goodness he has deep inside which is why in the end he had to let her go. He knew who he was and did not want her to see him any other way but the man who helped her get on her feet so to speak.

I highly recommend

When I’m not writing, I love to hunt and fish with my family. We all love the outdoors and go on family hunting trips every year. We also love to travel.

Perhaps the most rewarding aspect of a writing career is getting to meet so many wonderful readers. There’s nothing better than dishing books with someone who loves the romance genre as much as I do. Romance readers are passionate and vocal. We love our books, love our happily ever afters, and we love to spend time talking to others about our favorites. Book Review: Dominated (The Enforcers #2) by Maya Banks

Dominated (The Enforcers #2)
by Maya Banks

May 3rd 2016 by Berkley
Paperback, 352 pages

The desire that exploded in Mastered continues its conflagration in Dominated—from the New York Times bestselling author of the Surrender Trilogy.

To save her, he had to betray her...

In Drake’s shadowy world, his enemies would exploit any weakness he had in order to bring him to his knees, and so he’s never allowed himself to care about anyone...never exhibited any vulnerability, and it made him a force to be reckoned with. Until Evangeline—his angel. A woman who slipped past his defenses like no one had ever managed. She was his to protect and ultimately, to do that, he had to do the unthinkable and drive the only good thing in his world away.

But he will stop at nothing to get her back...

Devastated and destroyed, Evangeline doesn’t know what made Drake turn on her in such a shocking manner. She only knows she’ll never be the same. He once freed her from all her inhibitions, only now she is a prisoner to never-ending pain. But when Drake finds her again, she realizes there is more to his world than she ever imagined, and she must decide if she can once more trust—and submit—to the man who holds her wounded heart in his hands. And he must convince her of just how far he’ll go to regain her love and forgiveness.

The story picked right up where book one ended. Drake devastated by what he had to do to Evangeline to protect her and Evangeline utterly destroyed by what Drake did to her. Evangeline was his weakness, he got where he is today for the fact he had no weaknesses, no vulnerability. He normally did not care about anything;  he was ruthless. Evangeline, however, changed all that and if his enemies got wind of her it was over. She would be dead or worse. She and only she could bring him down to his knees. On his knees is exactly where he intended to be for her to forgive him. Lucky for him she did forgive him, only for him to do something really stupid again and I mean stupid, come on! This time he really put her in danger and left her in the dust. Even his men couldn’t believe it.

Romance at its best, I enjoyed that aspect. As I stated in book one, you have these hardcore men living a very dangerous life but that really was not brought in the picture until the end. The idea was you knew danger lurked but it did not really surface. The action was really around the romantic drama and their trust in each other not just with Drake but with his men too. At times I thought the love trust with his men and Evangeline were a little over the top but Banks made me believe when she layered on the family aspect of it in each and every one of them, what they meant to her and her to them.

All in all it was fun and interesting with some hot steamy scenes.

Book Review: Mastered (The Enforcers #1) by Maya Banks

Mastered (The Enforcers #1)
by Maya Banks

December 29th 2015
Paperback, 368 pages
From the #1 New York Times bestselling author of the Breathless Trilogy comes the first novel in the Enforcers series—a bold new direction in erotic romance that explores the games men and women play, and the price they’re willing to pay for pleasure.

What he wants, he takes with no remorse or guilt.

She stood out in his club like a gem, unspoiled and untouched. A lamb among wolves, she clearly didn’t belong. Drawn to her innocence he watched as she was surrounded by men who saw what he did—but no one but him could touch her. He summoned her to his private quarters. He sensed her fear. He also recognized the desire in her eyes. And he knew she wouldn’t leave before he possessed her. She had no need to know his secrets. Not until he had her under his complete and utter control.

What he wants, she isn’t sure she can give him.

The moment he told her want he wanted, she couldn’t resist. Instinct told her to run, but her heart said stay and walk the fine line between pleasure and pain. Though she wasn’t sure she could ever completely surrender, the primal part of her wanted to try, even knowing this man could break her in ways she never imagined. Because once he possessed her, he owned her and it would be too late to turn back. She can only pray that he doesn’t destroy her in the end.

Coming May 2016: The Enforcers Book II: Dominated

Evangeline knew she did not fit in. Her friends talked her into going to the hottest club around just to make her ex squirm a bit for dumping her and see what he is missing. Instead of feeling beautiful and sexy however, she felt like a complete outcast. The looks she received from the club goers even the workers told her she did not belong, she did not have what it takes. Everyone here was beautiful and she was just, well just Evangeline. Everything she came to do completely backfired and put her in the hands of the clubs owner, the most handsome intimidating man she ever met, Drake Donavan.

Drake Donavan, watched her walk into his club, annoyed at his bouncers for even letting her in. She did not belong, they would eat her alive. Her beauty and innocence was so alluring and she had no inclination at all of what she possessed and every man in the room knew it. He had to have her, summoning her to his private domain he will have her and there is no doubt about that.

If you like steamy romances with hot domineering sex, then this book is for you. Alpha male vs Innocent female, she did not know what hit her and by the time you finish this book you won’t know what hit you either. Putting it down just was not in the cards, I could not. Was it the steamy crazy sex, or the story itself that kept me so enthralled honestly it was all the above. It started off with a wow moment, did that just really happen and it did not stop until the end.

There is not a lot of drama the story's focus was the building of the relationships and not just between Drake and Evangeline but with the secondary characters as well. Characters that could have created a stir and added a depth of drama was introduced in the end but the story ended. Maya Banks did state that Drake’s and Evangeline’s story was supposed to be only one book but their story consumed her which I love because you can definitely feel that in her writing. Their story was so compelling.

I cannot wait to see how their story ends
