Meet Sheep Reviewer: Tammy "If it isn't Love" Kostecki

Over the next week we are going to officially introduce ewe to four of our most recent survivors reviewers*:
Denise, JeanieBianca, Tammy
They might appear mild-mannered, but they are far from it...
*I Smell Sheep denies subjecting potential staff members to "Hunger Game"-like interview process. That would be baaaad.

Name: Tammy  Kostecki

Fav thing to read - I love a good Romantic Mystery and Suspense

Watch - Drama Drama Drama – Shows like ‘Suits’, ‘Good Wife’, ‘Madam Secretary’, ‘24’. My daughter and I secretly watch Dance Moms, Not the drama I look for but very entertaining to say the least

Eat – I am a salt person not a sweet

A power you wish you had – Telepathy, if only!

Something you would do IF you could get away with it – be a fly on a wall

Fan Crush - I have loved Pierce Brosnan since …… I can’t even say I may date myself, yum!

Dream date – I actually had it, no really don’t laugh.  It was late, I was hungry and my boyfriend at the time was not getting off of work for another two hrs.  He told me to just come up and he will order take out while I wait for him to close.   When I got there on the patio which overlooks the grounds of a golf club and lake was a table set up beautifully for us down to our dishes being covered with those silver banquet covers to keep your dishes warm.  We sat down and one of the staff who was already off lifted the silver tops and poured us a delicious wine.   It was the most romantic takeout food ever.  It is now 23 years, 2 kids later. That’s right I married him.

If you were a pizza your toppings would be – Onions – Take it or leave it

If you could own a boat what would you name it and why – Tamarra, It’s my name why not.

Embarrassing story - Running into the mail man on my bike. I knocked him over, his glasses and mail bag went flying and all was done in front of a boy I liked in middle school. Yep he kept walking

Hello My Name Is... Giveaway Hop!

We’re ringing in the New Year with lots of giveaways! And by sharing some fun and wacky facts about ourselves. There’s a new giveaway at each stop so be sure to visit them all!

The I Smell Sheep staff is sharing one disturbing interesting fact about themselves! What kind of people have you been getting book advice from...

Katie Dalton (founder)

I used to be obsessed with any and all things new kids on the block. I had the dolls, shirts, socks, tapes, lunch box, and i bought every teen bop mag they were on. I can still to this day sing all their songs. Lol

Pamela Kinney (reviewer)
I'm a Ghost Wrangler.
(really...she does paranormal investigations and writes books about them!)

Okay this totally makes me feel...Sheepish but when I'm alone in the house I talk to myself with a British, Russian or German accents. It's bad enough I talk to myself but I answer in accents. Don't judge me, I have a hidden weird streak.

Selah Janel (reviewer)
So I watch rom-coms the way other people watch horror movies. I don't know why but I get super embarrassed for/invested in the lead characters so if there are emotional/potentially embarrassing mixup (and there always are) I cannot watch it. I'll have to look away, I'll put a blanket over my head and be all 'YOU IDIOT NOOOO' or have to leave the room and have someone else tell me what's going on and when it's safe to come back in. Obviously I don't do these types of movies in the theatres because that wouldn't be an event for everyone who had to watch me suffer at all.

Sharon Stogner (co-founder)
I started playing Foosball at 15 and played for 13 years. I was a kick ass offensive player. It is how I met my husband. We competed in tournaments and played every weekend until our first baby... my best shot was a pull-reverse cut.

Denise Belt (reviewer)
I love football. My favorite team is the NY Giants. My daughter and I yell at the TV and follow football closer than the men in our house.

JeanieG (reviewer)
I have always been a parapsychology and paranormal geek. Combine that with the absolute distaste for studying and you have my method for getting through high school and college. I would go to bed a little earlier than normal, read once through any notes or chapters then immediately fall asleep. I was convinced that my brain would continue to absorb the necessary information! Kind of like "dream walking" only "dream studying!" No one can convince me otherwise. And PS, I did make it through all my classes just fine, even nursing exams, insurance exams and securities exams. Now if I can just learn to use that mind control on others!

Bianca Greenwood (reviewer)

Okay ... this is F'd, but I like to bite on the plastic pieces that holds price tags to clothing. And I shop ... a lot, so I have a virtual endless supply.

Gef Fox (reviewer)
Love snakes. Hate spiders. Generally ambivalent towards snails.
Or ... Despite being from Canada, I never learned to skate.

Confessions of a Book Reviewer

I’ve been reading a lot of blog posts by authors talking about book reviews and those who give them. Some authors actively seek out reviews while other authors could take or leave them, but one thing is true…good reviews make can make an author's day and bad ones can hurt like hell.

But what does a reviewer’s opinion mean? You guessed it, not a damn thing! There are so many types of UF and PNR out there that any one reviewer's “meh” is another reviewer's “OMG!” So unless you, the book reader, and the reviewer see eye to eye on the same things, you can’t put to much stock in a review.

What does this mean for you, the book reader? Should you even bother to read reviews? Well, yeah, but there are dozens of different blogger sites, and you can probably find one site that likes and dislikes the same books as you. But remember, even then you won’t find the perfect match because the same book can have a different effect on different people. So ideally, you should routinely visit a few different sites if you want to use reviews to help you decide what to read.

Personally, I like reviewers who have fun reading and reviewing and don’t take themselves too seriously, but stay positive and respectful towards the book and author. Authors expect honest feedback to help them improve their skills, and we owe it to them to be respectful about it.

Are my reviews positive and respectful? Gosh, I sure hope so. If not, I encourage you guys to call me on it! Deal?

While you are at it, friend a Sheep (yeah, we have a facebook page), subscribe to our blog. Hey, I may be nice, but I ain’t stupid or shameless I have visions of taking over the world (see the picture above), one review at a time BWAHAHAHA!!! (or I guess I should cackle BAAAAAABAAAA!)
