Why My Kindle Has Possessed Me!!!

I admit to being one of those people who cried foul about reading books on digital ereader. How could anyone want to read on a tiny, digital contraption vs. a book with a beautiful shiny cover!? Well, this was before I became an author and before I had an ereader of my own.

The way it all started was my mother won a Kindle keyboard in a contest and lost interest in it fast. Since I had just opened my book blog Books & Beauty, I wanted to be able to review books on Kindle. That’s all it took to get me hooked! I usually do my reading in the evening and late into the night while lounging in my bed. I don’t know about you but, sometimes a hefty hardback can be a burden to hold when you’re trying to get comfy in your room to read. The Kindle makes it so much easier for me to lie in bed and read with one hand, I can even turn the “pages” with one hand. This has to be the best trait about the Kindle for me personally.

The second thing I love so much are the books being so inexpensive or even free. As an author I can never bring myself to price my books at higher than $2.99 because that is the price I’m most comfortable with when purchasing an ebook. It is so much easier to whip out my debit card for a $2.99 ebook then a $12.99 book! This has also gotten me a little trouble; that one click buying thing on Amazon will get ya! That’s why I’m on a book ban now. Freebies, forget it, I’m addicted. My addiction is getting better; I only now download freebie books I’m SERIOUSLY interested in. So, if you’re budget is a little tight (I’ve been there, I’m still there) and don’t know how to give back to the book world simply leave a review for that freebie book you’ve read. There is no better way to say “thank you” to an author then leaving a review for the book you just adored.

The last thing that my Kindle possessed me with (that my family hates) is I can slip it in my purse and take it anywhere! Since I recently upgraded to a Kindle Touch, I brought a pretty read leather case so that I can just slip it into my purse at a moment’s notice and BAM instant entertainment anywhere. This is especially handy since I have to go to the doctors every three months and hate those long awkward waiting room moments.

Don’t get me wrong now, my book shelf is still over flowing with books (that I only buy from Amazon, my indie book store or win from contest) but I’m grateful that my Kindle picks up the slack of over 200 books! I guess what I realized the most about digital readers is that it doesn’t really matter what format a book comes in, if the content is magical you’ll escape to that new world no matter what the packaging is.

Have you caught Kindle fever or are you a hard copy book lover for life?

Soul Sisters is an urban fantasy novel about African-American twin sisters Ani and Dana who have a rather unique secret: one sister is human while the other is a vampire. While the sisters have lived peacefully with each other for many years one fateful night will change both their lives forever. When a drunken man tries to attack Dana (the human sister) Ani (the vampire sister) protects her sister with all of her ferocious power.

However, when the vampire’s leader Donovan finds out about the public display he calls for the sisters to be assassinated for disobedience. Ani and Dana now are in for the fight of their lives to protect each other as well as the lives of their dedicated friends who have joined them on their mission for survival. If Dana and Ani can make it through this time of uncertainty, Ani can take her new place as vampire queen. Soul Sisters is expected to be a trilogy; The book also features a multicultural cast of characters that brings a new edge of chic to the vampire world.

  3. I don't have an ereader at all and have no plans on getting one. I hardly ever read ebooks since I have to read them on my computer and see no reason to buy an ebook when I can get a paper back book. I guess I'm old school and will most likely stay that way. I have won a few ebooks in contests but after trying to read so many of them and finding so many errors or just finding them lacking in substance, I don't even bother anymore. I'm sure not all ebooks are like that but I'd rather have a paper back or hard cover book that I can then put on my bookshelf. But that's just me.

  4. I do not think I would survive without my ereader. I used to be the most faithful patron of my local library and then life happens and it was more and more difficult to get there and I also found holding a real book became more and more difficult. Now I have a huge library of my own and I can always find something of interest and what an improvement in my quality of life - actually even introduced me to the book blogging world. I love the look, touch, and smell of a bound book, but my mind is constantly gobbling the goodness that is my Kindle :) Thank you so much for sharing with us today and for the opportunity to win a copy of what looks like a really good read.

  5. I followed on Twitter and Fb I added you as a friend. I was one of those "Ebooks will never make it" people and now I have mine with me at all times. I love that my library now has ebooks because I do not need to get three kids five an under in and out of the car to go grab a book. I can do it in my jams.Oh I am DelphinaReads on Twitter and Delphina Miyares on FB.

  6. i purchased an ereader back in 2009 for my trip to the UK so i wouldn't have to haul so many books with me and i haven't stopped using it. i also have dyslexia so for me often i am put off by how BIG a regular paper back is and the fact id' have to plough my way thru it even IF i really want to read a book. but with the reader i am able to focus on the content making it easier for me to finish the book
