Deep South legends. Deep fried curses. Deep dish revenge . . .

This Debutante Is Having A Ball!

Way down south in the land of cotton, one belle's plans are soon forgotten--when Sassy Peterson drives her Maserati off the road to avoid a deer and lands smack-dab in the proverbial creek without a paddle. The Alabama heiress should have known something weird was going on when she saw the deer's ginormous fangs. Hello, Predator Bambi!

But nothing can prepare her for the leather-clad, muscle-bound, golden-eyed sex god who rescues her. Who wears leather in May? That's just the first of many questions Sassy has when her savior reveals he's a demon hunter named Grim. Also: Why would a troop of fairies want to give her magical powers and rainbow hair? Why would a style-challenged beast called the Howling Hag want to hunt her down?

Most importantly, what's a nice debutante like Sassy doing in a place like this anyway? Besides feeling Grim . . .

A little Grimm Fairytales, Snow White and Hansel and Gretel combined in a whimsical, sometimes humorous and light hearted read. A story about a mismatched band of brothers keeps you entertained from the first page to the last!

Sassy, a privileged young female who is on her way to settle her brother's estate, wrecks her vehicle and is rescued by Grim, a guardian and Hunter of nasty demons. A brother that she hasn't seen since her mother fled with her from the town of Hannah has died and left Sassy his entire estate. Very happy in her life with her mother and stepfather, she is unaware of her genetics and the fact that she is a demonoid. She knew about her brother but assumed he had made a point of ignoring her (as did her real father) and she harbors only hurt feelings and anger. She is engaged to be married and wants no part of her brother's life or wealth.

Always upbeat and resourceful, Sassy is on her way to Hannah, a town 50 miles away, when she looses control of her car and careens into a body of water. She looses her phone, purse and vehicle in the accident but is saved by a tall, handsome man who is dressed in weird garb and immediately disappears after telling her to stay put until he returns. A little ticked and then confronted by ghost who tells her she must hide from an oncoming demon Sassy has to use her wits and suggestions from these unusual creatures to save herself and continue to Hannah to finish what she started.

Typical storyline of a (somewhat) Alpha super with a sassy main character female encountering dangerous situations. Grimm has appointed himself guardian of Sassy and has pledged his loyalty to keeping her safe. Grimm has lived 900 years in solitude hunting demons with only his mental companion "Dell" as company and information. He is taken by surprise with his desire to keep Sassy safe until she returns to her normal life. His normal single minded focus on hunting demons makes trying to assimilate himself into a "community" and a possible relationship difficult.

Upbeat and empathetic Sassy accumulates a variety of good and bad super's that have become enamored with the young female demonoid. They all come together to keep her safe from the "Hag" demon that wants nothing more than to use Sassy as the main ingredient in her "soup of the day"! She brings them together and begins to question her desire to return to her previous life.

If you are looking for deep thought or dark tales, pass on this one. I questioned why Grimm seemed ignorant to the ways of the world when he had a built in computer of information in his head but decided to just read and forget about questioning the author's character development. But if you're in the mood for a "fairy tale", look no farther. This fills the bill 100%. I really enjoyed the story and all the "good hearted" feelings it evoked.

Excerpt:
“Sugar,” Sassy murmured. She laid her head on Grim’s shoulder. “Fairies.”

With a drowsy sigh, she relaxed against him and went to sleep.

Grim stilled. A surge of lust hit him, hard and fierce. Sassy smelled delightful, a dizzying combination of summer roses and female. Curling tendrils of her hair lifted to caress his jaw, like flowers reaching for the sun.

I am her sword and shield. The vow rose unbidden in his mind. Here and now I vow to protect her, from anyone or anything that threatens her.

An admirable sentiment, I am sure, the Provider said, but hardly necessary. She leaves tomorrow, and you return to the hunt. That is good, is it not?

Yes, of course.

Then why the hollow ache in his chest?

Lexi George writes snarky, Southern-fried paranormal romance for Kensington. Her debut novel, Demon Hunting in Dixie, was released in 2011, and a novella and two more demon hunter books followed. Demon Hunting in a Dive Bar, the third book in the series, was nominated for a RITA in 2014. The fourth book, Demon Hunting with a Dixie Deb, is due to be released May 24, 2016. Lexi enjoys reading and writing romance, but her first love is fantasy. A Meddle of Wizards is the story of Raine Stewart, a sheltered, sickly young woman who comes into her own when she’s transported to a magical world, discovers her burgeoning powers as an adept, and faces the evil wizard who killed her parents. Lexi’s day job as an appellate attorney requires reading transcripts filled with murder, mayhem, and worse. Perhaps this is why she enjoys stories filled with humor, action, adventure, and magical creatures. She has a violent aversion to sad movies, having been scarred by Old Yeller at the age of nine. She drinks tea, not coffee, and has never seen The Exorcist, because she is a world-class chicken. She is the third of four children, with all the attendant neuroses.
