For Keiran Saysin, protecting the fairy population from humans is more than a job. It is passion and his duty to the realm. Since Eero’s revolution failed—and the discovery of fairy power lying dormant in some of the human population, that job hasn’t been easy. Now that his sister and her husband are welcoming a set of twins, old enemies have come out of hiding, hoping the children will a serve as a key to reclaiming what has been stripped from them.

Enter Annie Valentine, the genetic researcher Daniel’s mother has employed. Keiran knows the smart thing to do is cast a spell and push the human away, but something about the way she stands toe to toe and eye to eye has him forgetting that getting involved with a human could cost him everything he values, including his power.

Annie Valentine gave up medicine a couple of years ago, something she does not want to talk about. She now works at a medical research facility researching doctor’s research. Her new boss also an old neighbor for some reason thinks she can help with the birth of her twin grandchildren. Apparently they opted for a home birth and her new boss does not like the idea of it. As they approach the house there were armed guards watching the front of the house. What on earth has her new boss gotten her into?

Keiran Saysin job is to protect the fairy population and it has not been easy. Now with the delivery of his sister’s twins he knows old enemies, enemies who still support the Eero’s revolution will come out of hiding. These enemies hope that the twins will serve as the key to get them back to the realm and get back what was stripped of them. Can Keiran protect these twins and the fairly realm. Kieran’s sister’s mother in law shows up with a human who claims to be a doctor, who he later finds out, actually is not, he does not trust either of them.

Even though this is part of series it could be read as a stand-alone. The story took you on a journey of gaining power in many forms. When is it enough, sometimes with the chase you missed the point of the fight in the first place. I loved watching Keiran’s and Annie’s relationship evolve. It was kind of cute; old school simple dating getting to know each other and the inner struggles to trust your feelings and theirs. Definitely was some light mystery and suspense involved. Overall good light read and am interesting in reading the series to see where this leads.
