Book Review: Hunted by DB Reynolds (Blog Tour + giveaway)

Hunted: A Cyn & Raphael Novella (Vampires in America #6.5)
by D.B. Reynolds
Power, it comes down to this... those who have it, those who want it.

Revenge, the need for it is a fire in the soul, a goad for the unwise.

Hunted, the fate of the foolish when they think to become the hunter.

The Lord of the Midwest is dead, and the powerful vampires of North America are gathering to choose his successor. The Vampire Council will be there to oversee the competition and to keep the violence to a bloody minimum, including Raphael, who will do whatever it takes to ensure the victor is a vampire he can trust. But someone is determined to stop Raphael and his mate, Cyn, from ever reaching Chicago, a hunter who may soon become... the hunted.

This is bridge novella that connects Lucas (Vampires in America #6) to the next release Aden. It introduces us to Aden and sets the stage for the story arc. What I loved most about these bridge novellas is we get more Raphael and Cyn action. The novella is told from their POV and makes a perfect way to segue between books.

Reynolds does an excellent job of coming up with a quick and interesting, action packed storyline for Raphael and Cyn while advancing the series story arc. I personally don’t care for erotica, but if you like naughty vampire sex you will get plenty in Hunted. It was great to see Lucas and Kathryn again. I love Lucas’s mischievous personality and how he interacts with the always serious Raphael. Cyn and Kathryn hit it off and are both strong female characters. We meet Aden and he is a chauvinistic ass. He doesn't think much of women and believes they are best seen and not heard. It will be interesting to see him put in his place by a woman.

One thing I love about Reynolds’s vampires is the old school alpha vampire attitudes. They are violent and scary powerful, as in can turn lesser vampires to dust with just a thought. I like the direction the series arc is taking with the American vampires and the European ones. This is a great series if you like hot vampire sex, alphas and the women who tame them… sort of <G>.

Alpha Male Diner: DB Reynolds

The diner is open again and serving up vampire. D.B. Reynolds was kind enough to whip up a little something, something called Raphael. I've read his book and he is old school powerful and all alpha...

RAPHAEL (Vampire)
Recipe created by D. B. Reynolds
VAMPIRES in AMERICA: BETRAYED (Cyn & Raphael Novella #1)

1 soul, black as a raven’s breast
1 pure heart, slightly distressed
1 pair of genuine onyx eyes, must gleam silver when properly stimulated
1 cup of get-the-fuck-out-of-my-face
2 brimming cups of arrogance
2 spilling-over cups of possessiveness
4 cups of pure, raw power
A pinch of humor
A dash of excellent style

Mix well, and marinate for a few hundred years. And then keep your distance.

Makes one 6 foot, 4 inch hunk of primal male Vampire Lord, who will kill anyone who touches what’s his, especially if her name is Cyn.

Taste test
warning this dish is spicy!

Raphael slammed his mouth over hers, yanking her up against his body and tightening his arm around her waist to hold her there. Cyn fought briefly, mostly for form, he thought, as the always burning attraction between them grabbed hold of her just as it did him. She softened almost immediately, her mouth opening beneath his, her arms going around his neck as she crushed her breasts against his chest.

Raphael slid his fingers under the edge of her sweater and wrenched it upward, releasing her long enough to tug it over her head and throw it aside. He bent his head to her breasts, their soft, golden mounds swelling out of the lace cups of her bra. He sucked fiercely on one of her nipples through the lace, biting down hard enough that Cyn hissed, her fingernails scraping his skull where she held his head in place, arching forward to offer herself to his mouth.

Raphael ripped the front clasp of her bra open, his hands coming up to cup her breasts, his thumbs thrumming her nipples into rigid peaks.

“Take this off,” Cyn rasped, ripping at his sweater before her hands dropped to the snap on his jeans. “These, too,” she demanded.

Raphael laughed, delighted at her response to him. No matter how angry she was, no matter how angry he was, this was always there. This passion between them that threatened to burn them alive sometimes. This was something she had with no other male. He would never permit it, even if she desired it. She was his, now and always, and he would prove that to her once again tonight.

Want more of this yummy vamp? You can read his book, Raphael, the first in the Vampires in America series or get a taste of him in this novella that is also a lead in to Reynolds book #6 in the series, Lucas.

Love, the ache in your heart when you meet the one. It can take you to soaring heights; and it can leave you bleeding in the wreckage. Loyalty, the thing which binds a Vampire Lord to his children for eternity ... unless it rots from within, birthing hatred. Betrayal, it comes in many forms and from many sources ... love ... loyalty ... betrayal. War has come to the North American vampires, and Vampire Lords are reaching across territorial lines to strengthen allies and weaken enemies. The most powerful Lord of them all, Raphael, could change the course of the war and determine who raises the final banner of victory. But at what price? And will his mate, Cyn, be the one to pay it?

Sheep ARC Review: Betrayed (Cyn and Raphael novella #1) by DB Reynolds

Love, the ache in your heart when you meet the one. It can take you to soaring heights; and it can leave you bleeding in the wreckage. Loyalty, the thing which binds a Vampire Lord to his children for eternity ... unless it rots from within, birthing hatred. Betrayal, it comes in many forms and from many sources ... love ... loyalty ... betrayal. Hot, freaking vampire alert! Reynolds writes a smoking series called Vampires in America, and the first book is Raphael. I absolutely loved this character. He's an old school vamp, and by that I mean he is powerful, knows it and makes no excuses for it. Other vamps can physically feel his power when he walks into a room and he can kill you with just a thought. He will hit all your alpha male buttons and leave you saying “Thank you!” His mate, who he meets in his novel, is the human Cyn and I liked her too. She is a private investigator, former cop, and all bad ass which makes her the perfect match for Raphael. I like how Reynolds portrays their intense love and passion for each other and it is their strength as well as their weakness.

Fans have been asking for more Raphael and Cyn and Reynolds delivered with a novella series about the couple. The novella Betrayed serves two purposes: it introduces us to Lucas, the main character of the next Vampires in America novel, coming out Oct. 2012, and helps set the stage for what events will happen in his book. I really like Lucas because he has a sense of humor and seems good natured rather than being the stereotypical brooding vamp. It also lets us visit with Raphael and Cyn again. There are a couple erotic sex scenes between them, because…well that is how they roll, but there is a solid story about what happens when Raphael tries to hide something from Cyn for her own protection.

This is great story for Raphael and Cyn fans and even if you haven’t read the series yet, you will get a taste of these two and want to read more.
