Interview: Gabrielle Bisset + giveaway

Gabrielle Bisset, author, picture
Despite all those false rumors about us losing guests in the dungeon, Gabrielle decided to come visit us!
*hands GPS tracking device to Gabrielle. mumbles something about freaking lawyers*
Any way... Gabrielle travels with 8 vampire warriors in her head! Vasilije, Saint, Terek and Thane have already escaped and soon Ramiel will too in Blood Prophecy (Sons of Navarus #4)

She is also quite the Alpha Male Diner cook! Check out her recipes for: Vasilije, Saint and Terek.

Sharon: Welcome to the Flock! Grab your moonpies some Kool-Aid and a beanbag chair. When we are done you can have a tour of the dungeon.
Gabrielle: Nice. Do you have anyone down there now?
Sharon: The ‘special’ members of the flock tend to hang down there… then there is Jake, the dragon.

Sharon: You have three different series: The Destined Ones, The Sons of Navarus, and some historicals. How do these differ in story and heat rating?

Gabrielle: The Destined Ones series is steamy, but not scorching. It's still erotic romance, but not as graphic. The Sons of Navarus and the historicals are all very erotic, so readers can expect explicit words used. As for how they differ in story, both the Destined Ones series and the Sons series are paranormal, but the first is about a race of beings descended from humans but blessed by the Archangel Raziel. They're called Aeveren and they live 50 lives through reincarnation before they pass on. It's a very interesting concept that I've blended with them having special powers, so these characters have the ability to travel through time, read others' minds, manipulate others' thoughts, and even heal their own kind.

The Sons of Navarus series, on the other hand, is about a group of vampire warriors who must save their world from takeover by rogue vampires. This series is one that builds upon itself, so readers should start at the first book, Blood Avenged, and then move on from there to fully enjoy the story.

The historicals are based in Victorian England and are shorter than the other two series. For me, writing historicals is relaxing because I teach history in my day job and love the subject. I also got to do a little BDSM in one of the novellas, while the other is quite funny (if I do say so myself).

Sharon: Bet you don’t teach the BDSM in your class <G>? What age do you teach? And bless you for being a teacher!
GabrielleI teach college students—freshmen mostly.
Sharon: I really like the idea of characters being reincarnated. So many opportunities with that one.

GabrielleI think so too. It allows me to have them in any time period I like, which is great for the history lover in me!

Sharon: Why do you think The Sons of Navarus series has done so well?

Gabrielle: I think it appeals to readers on a number of levels. First, it's a classic story of good vs evil. It's human nature to be drawn to that. Then it's sexy, and in the PNR/UF genres, sexy works. But on a deeper level, it's a series that allows the readers to become attached to the characters. While each book does focus on a couple, once their story is told they continue to be an important part of the non-romantic storyline. So if a fan loved Vasilije and Sasa in Blood Avenged, they still read about them in the later books, making the experience more fulfilling.

Sharon: Have you done anything to people’s beloved character that got you chastised by them <G>? Nothing like a fan scorned!

GabrielleNot yet, but...

Sharon: There are only 8 Sons, does that mean only 8 stories or do you see a possibility for creating more?

Gabrielle: I'm adding a new character to the group in Blood Prophecy, which comes out this spring, and there's a group of paranormal allies that very well might get their own series after the Sons is completed. Right now, it's all in flux.
Sharon: So much smexy, so little time!

Sharon: You are a self-published author with a loyal fan base. Do you dream about getting a contract from a big publisher or do you think giving up control of your books would be too hard?

Gabrielle: I'm a perfectionist when it comes to editing, but giving up control of my series won't be difficult if I decide to go with NY because the big publishers have the same goals as I do: produce books that sell and live up to a standard that's been around for years. As for dreaming about getting a contract from the big publishers, I can't say I dream about it, but I can say I would definitely entertain the idea. For me, that part of the writing business is about one thing: getting my work out to as many readers as possible. If NY can do that and we want to work together, then I believe good things would come from that relationship.

Sharon: If the Karma bus hit you right now, what do you think you would come back as?

Gabrielle: I think I'd come back a cat.

Iron Man, wallpaper
Sharon: If (insert favorite kick ass heroine/hero from TV/movie) were my BFF we would...
Gabrielle: If Ironman was my BFF, we would have a great time with all those toys of his. LOL!
Sharon: I would want to play with more than just his toys… just saying…

Sharon: What’s for dinner tonight?

Gabrielle: With any luck, tonight is pizza night. :)
Sharon: Everyone hear that?! Pizza at Gabrielle’s tonight! I’ll bring the moonpies…

Sharon: Katie wants to ask if you know any single vampires and could she have names and numbers?

Gabrielle: I do. Tell her I'll hook her up after the interview. ;)
Sharon: Um… can I see that list too?

GabrielleSure. I've got a few of their numbers. ;)

Time for a little Rapid Fire!

Goosey Loosey, Disney
Sharon: Goosey Loosey or Henny Penny?
Gabrielle: Goosey Loosey.
Sharon: Henney Penny was such a spaz!

Sharon: Grilled or fried?

Gabrielle: Fried.

Sharon: Stomp your feet or clap your hands?

Gabrielle: Clap hands.

Sharon: Pepsi or Coke?
Gabrielle: Coke. Pepsi is too sweet.
Sharon: You wound me *sob*

Sharon: Hug or handshake?

Gabrielle: Hug.

Sharon: Basket of Baby Harp Seals or Basket of baby Sea Otters?

sea otter, baby
Gabrielle: Uh, I guess if those are the choices, I'll be hanging out with the otters.

Jughead, Archie, comics
Sharon: Comic books or manga?
Gabrielle: Comic books.
Sharon: Do you have a favorite comic?
GabrielleI don't, but when I was a child my mother had a collection of Archie comics. To this day, I think of that kid's crown when I call someone a Jughead.

Sharon: Comedy or Tragedy?

Gabrielle: Tragedy. There's so much more to pluck from sadness.

Sharon: Shy nerd or out-going jock?

Gabrielle: I'm more shy jock, but if I have to choose, I guess I would go with the shy nerd.
Sharon: If it weren’t for that coke thing I would let you have shy jock, but nope! <G>

Katie: *Katie slips Gabrielle a shy jock* Coke rules!

Sharon: Is there anything you want our readers to know before we head into the dungeon?

Sons of Navarus, Gabrielle Bisset, graphic, buttonGabrielle: Keep an eye out for lots of great things to come as I get ready for the release of Blood Prophecy this spring. It's going to be a huge turning point in the story, so don't miss it!

Thanks to Gabrielle for stopping by. While we give her the VIP tour of the dungeon you guys check out her Sons of Navarus series and keep an eye out for Blood Prophecy (book #4).

About the Author:
website-fb-twitter-email
I'm a UF/PNR author. For me, a book does more than just tell a story. It transports readers away from their daily lives to another place where they can be a part of something different than the common and everyday. I'm always so touched when readers tell me they felt like they were a part of the story when they read my books.

When I'm not writing, I can be found reading romance novels but often mysteries, cookbooks, and anything dealing with ancient and medieval history and European history, in general. I also love the outdoors, so I enjoy the wonderful weather Pennsylvania has to offer. I live there with my son and a herd of pets.

  18. I really like Cinder from "Cinder." She's quirky and all alone, but I would like to be friends with her. So what, she's a cyborg! I also like Valek from "Poison Study." He has such a presence about him and he doesn't let people get close to him easily. I would also like to be friends with Katniss Everdeen (J-Law style). Frankly, I just wanna be friends with Jennifer Lawrence!
