The Amazing Spider-Man is the story of Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield), an outcast high schoolerwho was abandoned by his parents as a boy, leaving him to be raised by his Uncle Ben (Martin Sheen) and Aunt May (Sally Field). Like most teenagers, Peter is trying to figure out who he is and how he got to be the person he is today. As Peter discovers a mysterious briefcase that belonged to his father, he begins a quest to understand his parents' disappearance - leading him directly to Oscorp and the lab of Dr. Curt Connors (Ifans), his father's former partner. As Spider-Man is set on a collision course with Connors' alter-ego, The Lizard, Peter will make life-altering choices to use his powers and shape his destiny to become a hero. -- (C) Sony
isn't he adorkable?
I will keep this short because our favorite Nerd, Marc, over at Following the Nerd already reviewed this for you from the perspective of a comic book fan. I, however, am going to review it from the perspective of an action movie lover.

Cutting to the chase, I loved it! Not only was this movie visually entertaining I enjoyed the story. I have never read the Spider-Man comics and probably never will, so I had no preconceived ideas going in. I like the fact that this Spider-Man was a high school teenager and looked and acted like one. Spider-Man’s background story and its effects on his motives added an emotional aspect to the movie I wasn’t expecting. The romance between Peter Parker and Gwen reminded me of first love at that age and made me smile. (Not to mention Emma Stone, who plays Gwen, is a beautiful actress.) The villain is sympathetic and the whole movie revolves around the theme of feeling weak and bullies, but it shows that there is good and bad in everyone and people can change.

There were touching parts, sad parts, funny parts and kick butt action parts, pretty much all I ask for in a movie. There were places where I was aware of the CGI effects, but for the most part I was too busy enjoying myself to care. My one knock on the film would be its length. I think thirty minutes could have easily been cut without the story suffering, and some parts dragged a bit, especially in the beginning. I know they were trying to add a character-driven element and I enjoyed that, but I went wanting action!

The last thing…Andrew Garfield is a cutie, but way too young for me <G> so no fantasies of getting caught in Spider-Man’s web. Now Denis Leary…he was nice to look at!

If you are into 3D and think they are worth the price then I say go for it, but I felt I got my money worth with this one!

  1. I'll go see Spider-Man tomorrow, and I'm quite a fan of Andrew. I remember seeing him the first time on a Doctor Who episode some years ago.

By the way, I read your post about Mind the Gap and I really liked it. I reviewed the first issue here: www.artbyarion.blogspot.com

    Cheers.

  3. So the question lies,is Andrew going to be the "as to" Spider Man such as Christian Bale is to Batman/Dark Knight movies or Christopher Reeve is to Superman...(well if it is as successful as Superman) I have had four people state this to me, four of which are already DC Fan-Boys so... hmmm do share!

    1. I don't know, but he has potential. Of course any body is better than Toby M . But SM should be you g and the same actor can't play him for to long .

    1. I can never justify the price of 3D, but if you enjoy 3D this would be a good one too see that way thanks for commenting :)
