Sheep Book Review: The Kraken King Part VIII (A Novel of the Iron Seas) by Meljean Brook

The Kraken King Part VIII: The Kraken King and the Greatest Adventure
(A Novel of the Iron Seas)
By: Meljean Brook
Steampunk Romance
82 Pages

Arriving in Krakentown with their enemies in hot pursuit, Zenobia doesn’t know how they can even hope to win. Being terrified brings forth an undeniable truth: she loves Ariq and will do whatever it takes to stand by him.

But as their adversaries appear on the horizon, they realize that not all is lost. Drawing on the power of the terrible war machine, Ariq, Zenobia, and the entire town must put their lives on the line to protect what they love…

What a super enjoyable series! I will say, I am very sad to see this series end. It's been a fun ride to the final chapter but I really hope we see both Ariq and Zenobia in future spinoff books.

An epic battle has been in the works for the past few stories and finally it all comes to a crashing climix. I was wondering when the "Kraken" reference would come into play and I was not disappointed!

Such a vividly written world, it's hard not to get sucked into this story and the ongoing battles that stretch across the globe. With the whole saga supported by a colorful cast of solid secondary charters, it's a wonderous breath of steampunk air!

My only gripe would be the cost of each novella. You do get a lot in each story but for those on a budget (like myself) this would be the only drawback on the pocketbook.

That said, if you love romance with jam-packed adventure and fantastical mechanical gadgets then you will enjoy this entire series!

  1. Great review Katie, and I would certainly like to read the finished book one day. I am slowly developing a love for steampunk.
