Sheep Book Review: Dark Skye by Kresley Cole

Dark Skye
Immortals After Dark #14
By: Kresley Cole
Paranormal Romance
432 Pages

Eternal Obsession
As a boy, Thronos, prince of Skye Hall, loved Lanthe, a mischievous Sorceri girl who made him question everything about his Vrekener clan. But when the two got caught in the middle of their families’ war, tragedy struck, leaving Thronos and Lanthe bitter enemies. Though centuries have passed, nothing can cool his seething need for the beautiful enchantress who scarred his body—and left an even deeper impression on his soul.

Endless Yearning
Lanthe, a once-formidable sorceress struggling to reclaim her gifts, searches for love and acceptance with all the wrong immortal suitors. But she’s never forgotten Thronos, the magnificent silver-eyed boy who protected her until she was ripped from the shelter of his arms. One harrowing night changed everything between them. Now he’s a notorious warlord with a blood vendetta against Lanthe, hunting her relentlessly.

Can the heat of desire burn brighter than vengeance?
With their families locked in conflict and battles raging all around them, will Thronos and Lanthe succumb to the brutal chaos that threatens everything they cherish? Or will the fragile bond they formed so long ago spark a passion strong enough to withstand even the darkest doubts?

There is no other author quiet like Mrs Cole. She's a massive leap above most others in this genera. That's just a pointblank fact. Dropping facts on you all like boom! Dark Skype is yet another example of her writing genius, she's come down with immortal savant syndrome I'm sure of it. There's no other explanation to the colorful, action packed, witty and intoxicating world she's created. It's beyond measure in any scope.

Do you want to read a REALLY good book? Packed with adventure that spreads across realms? Steamy romance that's sure to burn the pages forever into your fantasies? Hunky dudes? Kickass snarky women? Any of this?! Yeah, than grab a copy of this one.

Now, with all the love in my undead vampy heart, I will give some constructive criticism knowing the writer can take it.

If you're just starting this series, you wont be bothered by the angst and anger our leading man has. He's been hurt by the woman he's fated to, and all that physical and mental pain makes him lash out. But as a reader who's been with Cole from book 1, this same scenario is feeling a little reused. It's time for some new blood to be pumped into the reasons why two couples are coming together.

Any one of Coles PNR stories can stretch across realms, but why does the same situation for these couples meeting or being fated keep getting used? I don't know.

The second issue is with the amount of anger Thronos has toward Lanthe. He says some REALLY awful things to her. Over and over. It made me think way back to the story of Emma and Lachlain (A Hunger Like No Other, book 1), when she was mistreated so badly that she walked out onto a ledge. She was ready to jump off. I would have pictured Lanthe doing almost the same thing, or if it was me I sure would have!

Emotionally, for me, this one hit a cord. The words used toward Lanthe were like daggers to my heart and I felt for her. I didn't want the couple to have a HEA, it seemed unlikely you can come back from that kind of verbal abuse. But being that these are "made up characters" and I invest waaaaay too much stock in the stories, it works out in this setting.

Overall, I can't express enough how talented and vibrant these stories are. Cole must have sold her soul to some demigod out there! This talent is beyond time and space in our galaxy and I look forward to the next creation she gives written birth to!
